@GavinHoey it is if you have hands the size of mine and trying to skip ahead on a mobile phone is extremely difficult.. lol. I'll have to switch to the laptop in the evenings to view..
@@jerbear197 Top tip... Double tap on the video (when using the RU-vid App on your phone) to jump forward 10 seconds. Keep tapping to keep jumping forward 👍
@GavinHoey that was news to me. So I tried it. It does not work. I use a Samsung S23 on Android obviously. Don't know what your using but it does not work on my phone...
I can't image I'll ever do any streaming myself but I'm finding it fascinating to learn how it's done. You make it look so slick and professional, but totally effortless 😉
If you want a cheaper way to switch easy. Using the first setup, plugging everything in to the computer. And then use an Elgato stream deck to change scenes (like the hotkey method) but can use a dedicated small device that can be used for many many things!
Not sure that's cheaper than the first OBS "free" method but it's good to know there's plenty of alternatives out there. Elgato is a brand I've not tried but have heard many good things about 👍
@@GavinHoey sorry I mean cheaper than the BMD version. But you set it up like the first version as it you’ll need the cheap hdmi dongles etc. but the app is free to use :)
Love these streams, whether photography or the video/streaming ones. This one was good to see with the multiple cameras. And to be able to see your behind the scenes setup and how it works is great. A quick question, what is the switcher that Freya is using? Thanks in Advance.
@@craig_aus Thanks for the kind words. Our main studio switcher is a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Extreme. 8 HDMI inputs, 2 HDMI outputs, 2 USB outputs, headphone out, supersource pip... The list of features is as big as the price tag 😉
I postulate that the beep when turning on the camera goes back to the early days of digital cameras. They sometimes took several seconds to power up and load the operating system before you could take a picture. The beep was used to tell you when the camera was (finally) ready. The speed at which the camera started was actually a selling point at one time. Today's cameras come up so quickly that the beep doesn't serve any useful purpose any longer.
@@vperalta That's a really good question. The image quality at 200 ISO is exceptional, especially when you get the exposure spot on in camera. It may only be 1 stop more than ISO100 but that extra stop means I run the flash at half the power for the same exposure. So my flash battery lasts twice as long, recycles faster and produces less heat.
35:00 You can have live view on, and the camera will turn it off when you put trigger in the hotshoe. So how I see "no flash no picture" is basicly turning of the trigger. Probably figured this out by now, but wanted to leave a comment ^^ Edit: Only works with Sony versions of the triggers tho. Used to atleast
@@MariusVolden Thanks for your comment and you EDIT was the part that means my custom button is still a must. Mind you not many photographers have a draw full of random triggers 😉
@@GavinHoey Yeah, I had to edit after I read through my "☝🤓 ACTUALLY.."-comment one time and had a "vietnam flashback" from one of my first indoor shoot as sportclubs-portrait/team photographer as a trainee. I was used to my Nissin Air 1 commander for Sony, and suddenly when I was handed a nikon trigger for some elinchrome lights, I had all the photos taken with Live Display on... and well, it was quite like shooting at the middle of the night. I only saw something after I took the photo 🤣 So this is the sole reason why I am one of those few who actually have different triggers in my small studio, because I sometimes rent it out, and I dont want to be put in my situasion! 😆
42:30 Canon has exposure simultation. It's calculated, yo get an instant readout. Olympus, Lumix has live view boost. It's measured, it's tedious waiting upwards of a minute. So no same name for all cameras.
Yeah, it's strange that camera brands can all agree on some terms but fiercely protect other words. Live View Boost was instant on my Olympus cameras and completely removed on the OM-1 🤐
Every Windows 10 (avoiding Win11) I have access to won't show RAW files in Windows Explorer by default. I know there are work arounds but RAW+tiny JPG is mine 😉
@@oneeyedphotographer My problem with Windows 11 is it's not Windows 10. Until Microsoft gives me a feature that I need and don't currently have, I'll be sticking with the stable and widely supported Win10 😉
You’re not going to believe this, but I’m watching this video on the replay and my Canon R5 picks up Polly’s eye while your video is playing on my television through RU-vid. If the R5 can track Poly’s eyes through the TV screen reliably, I think we can assume it would track her eye in real life. 😂
Never assumed anything in the world of photography but there is a slight chance I might get to test it out for real with a Canon in October... possibly 🤞
@@GavinHoey We are so lucky to have so many amazing camera system options in 2024. I’m sure you will find something that works well for you. That being said, Canon feels like home to me.
@@Kat.2x Many years ago I borrowed a Leica from Mark Wallace for like a minute. But it was enough to tell there was a massive step up from what I had at the time!
If you have more than one camera body, always remember to synchronization the time. If not automatic, always remember to change for daylight savings time or standard time.
I had a play with the A7IV Ray and it's a great camera. It missed a couple of points I needed for my unique job but for 99.9% of photographers / videographers it's amazing.
Have a word with Raj, he was in one of your Adorama videos with his partner Jade Lyons, he works for Canon and can no doubt put you in touch with someone to get hold of the new R5ii
Also do you not put all those menu options or at least some of them in you favourites, so you can easily find them, specifically Format at least, I also include custom button allocation, shutter type, shutter volume, these may be more specific to me using Canon as I know Sony has the quick menu you can customise.
@@SteveSpurgin Raj (and Jade) is wonderful and knowledgeable but the "right" people to speak to at Canon have always been elusive. Most of what I set up today is "set and forget" stuff. Sony, Fuji and OM System all have quick menus where I always make my own mini menu 👍
I was such a fan of Fujifilm and convinced they would solve their camera focus issues but they haven’t. Then this year they hyped a new 100V model and could never make enough to sell. I still kept my faith…until I tried the latest Sony. Game over. I took the leap of faith and switched over, almost in tears of joy how well the Sony focuses and tracks.
@@kingtungstenworldwide4472 I'm with you on being a fan of the Fuji X-H2 form and function but the Sony A7RV is the first camera to see Poly as a face!
I have an Olympus E-M1X and the M.Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8 plus two flashpoint speedlights and 2 AD200's(one of them is the Pro model). I should be set just with that equipment for portraits right? I seriously cannot understand and dial it in. 😢
Gavin, your tips helped me on the job today. I proposed to my boss about livecasting a news conference on wildfires in our area, and I used my Pentax K-3 as my camera. I had thought about before just sending a live view to the streaming software, but after your video I put the camera in video mode so the computer would have a full-HD stream in 16:9 aspect ratio to start in. It exceeded expectations and the funny part is there were four to five TV crews there, yet the guy from the newspaper with a DSLR, a laptop, wireless lav mic and OBS software was the only one broadcasting live. Thank you again sir for this and all the great tutorials you put out.
I honestly think AI is good for jotting ideas down on paper, how the artists expands them and adds their creative flavors (like her make up is so cute), is what makes it special! AI should be assisting and not replacing creatives
@@smugdodofart27 Like any new tool the value of Generate AI will evolve with time and with user skills. But I agree it's value to creatives should be to help them and not replace them.
