There are areas with no level cap for earning vocation points (at least in the DS version). You can grind vocations to your heart’s content there. No need to wait until post game if you wanna go crazy: Several are accessible well before the post game. I believe the first story location you can access with no cap is Spiegelspire. Inside the dungeon itself. This is where I always used since it’s a Zoom location and is early enough in the story that grinding a few job levels there in the late game won’t overlevel you as you’ll outclass the enemies by then.
I never got the chance to play this, got it on the switch since it's on sale and will give it a go when I have the chance. What are your thoughts on the ones like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance?
Hi nick! Dont burn me at the cross, but I was never much a fft guy. When it comes to tactics, I always preferred fire emblem. It just felt faster and smoother to me. I wish I liked the tactics style mlre though, because I love the final fantasy jobs
It is a sequel, but not a direct one for sure. I think the developers saying that "Cross is not a sequel, but a game with connections to Trigger" wanted to say that it's different game in the same world, but it should not be considered a continuation of the same story that was before. And I think it pretty much sums up everything that is going on in Cross, because it is very different and yet it is very hard to understand without playing CT. It's similiar to when you play Panzer Dragoon Orta without experiencing previous titles or go through Persona 5 without playing other games that came out before. All these games (including Cross) are sequels, but not a direct ones. And it doesn't make Cross a bad game even if it is/isn't a sequel.
Western RPG's are clearly better - just two points prove this. In terms of graphics and mechanics let us say they are about equal, but 1) writing/storywise and 2) world wise JRPG's are inferior. Most JRPG's are written for an adolescent audience while good Western RPG's try to explore more complex/adult narratives that require more maturity and intelligence to understand/appreciate. World wise, JRPG's have a navigation world and a flat "combat" world. This is what really makes JRPGS shit, because this breaks immersion and forces ALL encounters to be set pieces. Combat becomes very predictable/formulaic, and you cannot use the world as a tactical tool since it is always "flat"/arenalike for your party and the enemies to engage in combat. Just take Witcher 3, Baldur's gate 3 and fallout new vegas and they wipe the floor with all of the look-a-like, cookie cutter JRPG's.
The majority of the problems yall listed was juts yall using the classes poorly, surevivelist become incredibly overpowered by maxing out apollon and protectors best skill is defender and not provoke.
My biggest hope for dragon quest 12 is that they keep this turn based combat instead of the other dq systems where you pick all your moves at once. I like picking each move as they happen like in dq11
Real question because I hear this a lot, am I the only person who doesn't use auto battle at all? Like why would I want the game to play for me. I never used it, for me the fun of turn based games is controlling the party and forming strategies lol
@@joshakins4923 I used to be that way. Still am with games I'm not familiar with. On multiple playthroughs of dq, sometimes its fun to let them take the reigns and see if they come up with different strategies.
@@RPGArchive1 I guess it depends on the battle system, with dq11 I like to take my time because it waits for you where as with games like the final fantasy series it's it constantly moving and I feel rushed by the ATB system so I don't mind using auto battle there.
The thing I like about act 2 is how it shook up your party and forced you to use other team comps. In act 1 I never used rab and sylvando but in act 2 you have to use them and it made me appreciate rab more.
Being too much into warrior in a fantasy game is a red flag. Like the world is filled with magic and your caveman brain just wants to hit hard with a stick? 😂🤡🚩
@@RPGArchive1 exactly, you’ll def have a change of opinion. I never got to finish it and would love to try it on my PS5. I remember enjoying the gameplay, it just got pretty tedious towards the end of the playthrough.
Crusader of centy, beyond oasis, and shining force cd are on the genesis mini 1&2, and are great. Light crusader and landstalker should be included. Phantasy star and shining force are still sega genesis og best rps. Beyond oasis and crusader of centy are action rpgs
At least you didn't import the game fron Japan to get it before Launch only to realize it was shit like I did. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. I remember all my friends at school were itching to know what the game was like and I couldn't bring myself to tell them. Learned a lot that day, Final Fantasy XIII was a learning curve and it too heavily impacted my gaming hobby. It was a wake up call that told me that gaming was no longer the same anymore and it was heading down a downward spiral... it still is to this daay.
Persona 3 Reload was an extremely disappointing remake that loses much of the identity of the original, so I can't say that an SMT IV remake from Atlus is something that I want anymore. But if it does happen then hopefully it isn't handled as poorly as Reload.
The post game is why its so in depth. To even get the beat maps u gotta max classes and rebirth a few times b4 they come available. You didnt mention the most op skill in the game...tension. a max tension fandango will obliterate anything pretty quick. I get ot yall were just talkin bout a normal play thru n thats fair😊
I ran Landy Protector / Survivalist Medic Alchemist. Immunize was OP. 1st Turn and the skill to prevent getting surprise attacked was critical for the survivalist. Protector anti element you cap at 5. any further and the healing will allow insta kill to go through from the dragon bosses.
The problem is, there's one single rpg, Xenogears specifically, that requires its protagonist to be shown speaking. Yes, I said it. Xenogears MANDATES Fei to both be the protagonist and to be a speaking character. While, say, Trails of Cold Steel and FFXII could have had Rean or Vaan as silent protagonists, you could have made Shulk silent in Xenoblade 1 or used a silent POV character (Barret? Tifa?) to follow Cloud in FFVII, you could have made Zidane from FFIX silent, but Xenogears just doesn't accept a silent protagonist at all, neither in the sense of making Fei silent nor by using a silent POV character following him. XG is heavily reliant on forcing emotions down the player's throat. Fei does not want to travel the world, the first half of the game insists that he's being dragged against his will and only wants to run, to avoid responsibility, to live in peace and not having anything to do with the wars going on around himself, while he keeps meeting Elly and the two start to get attached to the point she leaves Solaris and he takes her with him, and their relationship evolves over time. Emotional turmoil going on inside Fei is one of the central topics of XG. XG has things such as an alternate personality for Fei and memories he represses, XG has conversations where Fei has effect on Elly (and other characters) just as much as the other character's part of the conversation has an effect on him, making him silent means that you hide words that are required for another character's arc and as such ruining the enjoyment of that arc. You are forced not to see Fei as yourself, because the game is telling you about Fei. You could have used another character as silent POV over Fei, but that case would have made the love story of Fei with Elly much less personal. I think next Final Fantasy after XVI won't have a speaking protagonist, as a way to contrast with XVI being, like XG and some arcs of the Trails series, one of the very few games that mandates having a speaking protagonist that is in a specific condition: XVI is a drama about growing up to be a leader and about Clive's relationship with his brother, and a few Trails such as the Crossbell arc and Daybreak strictly require Lloyd and Van to both be the protagonist and to be shown speaking at the same time, because Lloyd and Van are meant to be faces of an institution with a placement in the setting's power dynamics, only they can talk for the institution they represent, only through their POVs that personal and professional relationships intersect.
The iOS version has a bug (and I’d guess the Android has it, too.). Sometimes, the Dream Scapes don’t trigger. You find them in the bottom world, but it’s not recognized that you’ve found them in the upper world. Don’t know what triggers the bug, and I’m not going to restart from the beginning just to see if I get it again.
I defeated the wight knight(megumin died as expected, aqua was surprisingly useful and darkness acted as a tank/heavy hitter)their classes are priest/mage/warrior, I gave Kazuma full sword upgrades which made him op in the very beginning lol, but that's only because I wanna make him a thief to make it as accurate as possible.
Great vid! I just finished Dragon quest 6 a week ago on mobile and I gotta say I really loved it, I knew it was the black sheep going in and I came out pleasantly surprised, i only had to look stuff up a few times but I’ve always played dragon quest by exploring every inch of the map and talking to every npc, so once that map opened up the last half of the game was a breeze for me (besides when I found out I needed to do the fashion show) it really felt like the closest game in style to DQ3 and I loved it for that. I can completely understand the criticisms though, as far as characters go carver is the goat like you guys said, I think the hero got some great development, and I think you guys slept on Ashlynn I found all her dialogue really funny throughout, even if her story presence was a bit strange with her “true identity” really feeling forced in there, I loved the class system as well which I think was a big reason I enjoyed the game over some others, and as far as its connection to the trilogy you guys basically got it spot on, it’s more of a Easter egg then essential lore, but one thing you missed was an npc you meet in zenith castle who expresses their desire to visit the human world and fall in love, the implication being this is the npc who eventually will go down and fall in love with a human and then give birth to the dragon quest 4 Hero. But yeah great vid I think DQ 6 is a great game that’s bogged down by a lot of little things more than having any huge flaw and depending on who you are and what your looking for it can be hit or miss
