Great video. Thank you for this review. Purchased the starter and played some rounds with my son. Unfortunately the box is not really balanced well. No chance for the Soviets against the german Panthers or Tiger. T-34 and Valentine are useless. 60 cm range against 100cm of the German Panther and Tiger. Even Panzer 3 and 4 shoot at 70 and 80cm. So you have to move into range with the Soviets. But if you move you can‘t fire or can‘t hit because of the german 4+1 camo+1 range +1 overworked =7 to hit. Lol. And you are not able to pen front. So you have to move further around. Germans can stay or easily Blitz, shoot double shots and need only a 4. Soviet Armor roll useless because of 14 Antitank. Playing Soviets is frustrating and we stopped playing the game now. 😢
Just to give you something on early Cold War tanks in the German Army: M47: January 1956: 14 M47 are delivered to the German Army, in total the Bundeswehr will order 1000 M47; the tanks will stayed in service until the late 60s, getting replaced by the Leopard M48: 1957: 200 M48A1 are delivered 1959: 1492 improved M48A2C are delivered and later upgraded to the M48A2CG with improved night fighting capability 1978-1980: 650 tanks are upgraded to the M48A2GA2, including the 105mm gun; other tanks are convereted to "Pionierpanzer M48A2GA1" pioneer vehicles , "Brückenlegepanzer M48" bridge layers and "Minenräumpanzer Keiler" mineclearing vehicles Sidenote: M48/Leo 2 hybrid: the German M48s had a relatively low milage, so there was a consideration to upgun the tanks. The turret ring of the M48 is wider, than the one of the Leopard 2, so a prototype was testfitted with the turret of a Leopard 2 using an adapter ring. Due to cost cuttings the tanks were never upgraded. The Leopard (1) July 1957: specifitations for the future tank were issued May 1959: 3 different prototypes are ordered (the Borgward Prototype was later cancelled, but the company was tasked to develop a turret, that had a axis stabilization) October 1961: Prototypes are delivered and tested April 1963: trails are completed and the "Standardkampfpanzer" (=MBT) is presented to the public August 1963: trails against the AMX-30 in Mailly-le-Camp November 1963: the tank is presented to the "Panzertruppe" using the name Leopard September 1965: first Leopard is delivered to the Bundeswehr 1965 to 1978: ~2500 Leopard are delivered to the Bundeswehr + ~1200 vehicles based on the Leopard chassis; another 2700 Leopard are delivered to other NATO countries Later on the Leopard gets various upgrade, much like the M48 there were plans to upgun the tanks with the 120mm gun. This was tested and the A5 upgrade included mountings, that a 120mm gun could be installed, if this was ever needed. (in the wargaming words a Leopard 1A5 120mm is very plausible) When you were talking about the limited stuff, i saw one of dealers listing the VDV box a restock for end of 2024, which was oddly specific, so maybe there might be a reprint.
Great video. I like the idea of Bailed Out being for AT LEAST a turn, even for FOW mid and late. As you say, the predominance of 3+ remounts makes Bailing Out little more than a time consuming set of dice rolls and for the opponent that bailed you out it’s “great, so that did nothing”. It should be at least one turn and THEN you roll to remount. Makes it much more meaningful, you will be bailed out for at least a turn, maybe longer if you can’t Remount. I placed and order for the new Starter but cancelled it. It’s great value and a great set for newcomers but, having a reasonable collection already I didn’t need the tanks, dice and rule book etc. In addition, the infantry platoons are vanilla basic and their transports are too high-end for me. For that reason I decided to go for the separate US Marine and Soviet Motor Rifle platoons along with a box each of M113s and BMP1/2. The separate platoon boxes allow me to field any platoon in the game for each side in transports that are not too costly points wise (and in the case of the M113 have a higher capactity).
I see your thinking. Not sure 1 box of BMP1s is enough though. Rather than buying inf+bmps you might be better off buying the Soviet Mech Inf. which is 9 bmps, infantry and some extras which you may or may not want. Probably less infantry, but more vehicles overall.
@@ModellingforAdvantage I did look at that but literally all the other things in that box I already have. The BMP box builds 5 vehicles and you get the upper hulls for both BMP 1 or BMP 2 so I plan to use a 3d print I’ve found to make 5 extra lower hulls and 5 pairs of tracks. Did look to order from you but you don’t ship to my part of the world sadly.
Any sign of a true Australian Leopard, the square (I think) welded turret and hull tool boxes? Hoping with world of tanks releases we may get Australian Cruisers dont care resin/metal or Plastic. Been wanting to do a winter American force but the direct order shipping... I wonder if they'll give 25 pounder short the Pacific? Oh and will be great to see Owen guns.
Good afternoon Please tell me, will there be a continuation of the story about new British and Soviet products? I would really like to see the sprues of the Soviet T-10 tank!
The leggings or gaitors on their boots are incorrect. Ranger units used cut down legends because they wore mountain boots… especially during the Dday invasion.
Hm... especially beginners don't want do kit bashing I think. So "You can do it by using this box and that box using these parts" is a bit overwhelming to them. Also: GO, TEAM PLASTIC! 😉
Hi, fantastic Batrep guys, I could only find page 90 motorbikes, which refers to treating Motorbikes like recce vehicles on page 98, ie if ordinarily they should go down, instead they would perform a escape move instead, and you can only shoot small arms from a bike with a FIRE action, so you cant advince and then shoot. Although on page 100, 'Vehicles and Orders' it states A vehicle is not allowed to go down as a reaction when shot at but failed orders on vehicles can receive a down order to show that it is halted and unable to make any further actions that turn.thats how i will play them if i get any, i think you have to balance that they are still vehicles (engines) but cant reverse and will also use the recce rules.
@@ModellingforAdvantage yep this one was espescially wooly, I would go for - bikes are vehicles - Vehicles can fail orders and get a 'Down Order' - but their 'Down' order wont get penalties for shooting at them because they can't realy get 'Down', they're too big, they are just marked as immobilised, therefore cant take any more actions that turn.....hope this helps for your future batreps, keep em coming! ;-)
Look like a nice kit! I am just wondering why they put a Churchill tank instead of a Sherman V in a starter kit supposed to be for the Canadians. Canada did not use a lot of Churhill and only between the Dieppe raid of August 1942 until somewhere in 1943 when the Churchills in Canadian service were returned to the British I believe
I was hoping Pacific was closer... oh well more time to save i suppose. I also really hope we get the AC (Australian Cruiser) Series AC I, ACIII and ACIV maybe out of World of tanls
Ooh, looking forward to the new IDF. Might proxy Merkava 3 with the mark 2s I already have, but the other stuff will be cool, I'm sure. Apaches, for example.
The Merkava 3 is a 1990's tank, it's an equivalent to the Leopard 2A5, M1A1, Challenger, Leclerc and T-80. I used to use them a lot on the old Steel Panthers II computer game.
Great video and very informative. I was hoping they might do a pure infantry based starter with 2 opposing mech companies but I guess with 10 IFV and 16+ infantry sprues it would have pushed the price up too high and eaten into the sales of the Mech Infantry army boxes. I don't actually need the extra tanks but even just for the infantry component, the new starter is a lot cheaper than buying the infantry and IFVs as stand-alones.
Say hello to Peter for me! He probably remembers how he sent the first sprues with a model of the T-80 tank to Russia! And I was the first to assemble this model and was infinitely grateful to Peter! I wish him health and success in his work!
Good interview. An idea would be to also post the v4 rulebook online for everyone to freely access and download so that you do not need to buy the starter set to understand if you like the game or not.
I like Peter, listening to him makes the company look so much better. I'd battlefront perfect, surely not, supply over here and the information on supply can be bad, but I get the impression they want to improve, unlike others (*looks at GW*). The idea of buying a book and getting the code for the digital bits is good, nothing new but I like it. What I dislike is, that I need to re-buy everything I own on the forces website, to get the new content. Again, this is not unfair, but I feel like I have to pay twice, a discount would have been great.
Terrific interview, Restless Kaiser. I hadn't wargamed for close to 40yrs but Battlefront's superb models and accessories got me hooked again. Peter's passion for wargaming and having high quality models is inspiring. Thanks guys. Can't wait for the Early War release next year.
Another great interview. Battlefront has a great outlook on customer service and providing products to meet the needs of both consumers and retailers. Wishing them many more years of success!
Great interview, loved the last video of you 2 last year! Cant wait for early war and season 2 of clash of steel! Blitzkrieg, its going to be glorious!
No mention of Early War during other smaller campaigns? I'd like to see something for the Balkans, Norway, the Mediterranean, and of course, North Africa.
He’s so right about dynamic points. If done right, it should reduce the big advantages of math hammering as well cut down on the meta effects where everyone is always playing the same armies. Takes a couple iterations to get it right though.
The Hotchkiss is about 1.5 Puma wheel smaller and a bit thinner, printed a platoon a while back for an early war French force. Edit: hoping for some Renault ZT 2 and ZT 3 minis for the French.
