So baseball, football, soccer and every other sport isn't a sport until you're a professional? According to Mark that's the case. So kids don't play sports
That's actually not what he said. He said the activity must be professional (played for money) at the highest level -- not at every level -- to be a sport.
What MJ is not telling you about all those pro sports he named, is the depend on ticket sales to fund the sport and the rewards for winning. Bass fishing is supported by the anglers and sponsors. Just because bass fishing doesn't depend on its fans to fund it doesn't mean it's not a sport!
Why does EVERYTHING have to be over analyzed? Give it a break. Fishing was never intended to be a sport. If you’re fishing because you think it’s a “sport”, you are fishing for the wrong reasons.
@@blakesmediocrebassfishing439 I know what the show is genius. No one I know has ever debated whether fishing was a sport. Again, if you’re arguing with someone over such nonsense, maybe you should take up pickle ball instead of fishing.
@2:45:00 Jacob that story is great. But today the technology is so advanced that if the younger guys don’t have it. Your toast !! Money has ruined the game today because of the price of equipment. The days of guys like you making it in a beat up old boat are completely over. Only the rich kids can afford to compete.
Bass fishing is not a sport by definition. In my personal opinion it is an activity where skill, intuition, experience, and/or luck can potentially produce positive results during competition.
Actually, bass fishing almost certainly IS a sport by definition according to the greatest authority on the planet (the Oxford English Dictionary): "an activity involving physical exertion and skill regulated by set rules or customs in which an individual or team competes against another or others." We could quibble about "physical exertion," but there's probably as much or more physical exertion in a day of bass fishing as there is in ping pong, curling or several other things that are certainly sports.
Good show guys. Only show where multiple people can disagree on certain topics and still get along with each other. NPFL did the right thing. I agree BTC. Great guests and were good sports. No pun intended. Lol. But yes, in my opinion, fishing is a sport. See ya next week. Just preparing ya all. 😂😂😂😂😂
Definitely a Sport. Traditional sports were based on survival skills and Greek in origin. Wrestling #1. They were showcased in the Olympics. Fishing has been in the Olympics in the past. Tournaments still exist today. You can watch tournaments throughout the year. Fishing is both a team and individual sport. All different types of sport fishing depending on the location and waterbody.
Fishing was in the Olympics once. It was pretty much a dumpster fire. Not sure that something being in the Olympics elevates it to the level of "sport."
@KenDukeBass yeah so it's just a different type of sport. I would be interested to know how many other things are no longer in the Olympics but are still considered sports. And how many have now be accepted in the Olympics that aren't considered by many to be a traditional or modern Sport. The Olympics aren't the only qualification of a sport. It isn't in the definition that it must be in the Olympics. But it is where an origination of sport started and was showcased.
@KenDukeBass I think we can't get caught up on the amount and degree of something like exertion. Fencing takes very little exertion as well as archery and shooting, but they are a sport because of skill.
@KenDukeBass best to keep it simple and precise as the definition says. Rules, Competition, and Skill. Exertion is a varying degree from quick thoughtful movements to heavy lifting or crazy cardio. Practice is also involved in a sport to hone the skills, especially at a professional level.
Man Greg Vinson just caused me to have an oh wow moment at the 1:32 or so mark. He described learning to use side and down imaging and how now we are in the live era. He mentioned that the viewing is the problem during live. I had never considered that in the past fans didn't see the hours and hours of scanning because it was done in practice. Now its done during the tournament as well as in practice. I mean i guess im stupid but that had never even clicked in my small brain.
Entertainment of others??? So if no one watches, it's not a sport? Does that mean the WNBA was not a sport before this year or that gymnastics is only a sport during the summer Olympics? LOL
Yeah but it's much broader than that. Like if you are shooting hoops solo you aren't participating in a sport. Zero competition. You would probably think differently if you were in tournaments and spending the time to compete.
@KenDukeBass yes. But it's like the difference between playing a game and participating in the sport. 1v1 game can be accepted as part of a sport especially if there is an audience and follow up games like in a lot of basketball tournaments in neighborhoods. It's similar to battles in a war. War games and survival are where a lot of sports come from. Hunting and Fishing are part of that. Competitive shooting is also a sport. Do you have to practice for it to be a sport? Is practice considered a part of the sport? Were gladiators a sport? Boxing is 1v1, is it a sport? I don't think degree matters in a broad definition that encompasses more than what interests 1 person. I don't watch modern sports for the most part besides maybe if invited to a world series/nba final/ superbowl watch party. The number of audience/spectators watching doesn't change the definition of sport.
Yeah, very true. Our numbers were not strong for the live show, but they bounced back pretty well in the next couple of days. Hunting and football definitely reduce bass traffic numbers.
People would pay to watch fishing and to go to the classic. Hell I pay to walk around and look at boats and campers at tv and boat shows. Yes bass fishing is a sport !!!!
Not physically exerting???? Try telling that to the guys who weight train, run, ice bath etc. vs those who don't and see who comes out better on the water.
