I was always moved by this short story. Well done Rick. Wow, I can't tell how many bad reads I've been forced to hear. This was welcome to the monkey house. Did you do this on your own?
The circus tribute segment is highly underrated in my opinion, and your singing tops it off. I also love your cover of Spinning Wheel that was earlier in the segment. It's a shame it was mostly overshadowed by most of the corporate voiced Showbiz Pizza segments that was sent to stores in 1986.
The song reminds me of my youth when I was an alter boy. I was lighting candles and well, apparently I lit something else. No worries- it didn’t burn down. Still, I was relieved of my duties. That’s when I started playing drums.
One of my top 10 Rockafire songs. I remember when Burt Wilson played the original song for me, I told him how well you all captured it, he agreed and kept playing the song over and over with me in the room and then said I love what Rick and Shalisa did on that song. 🥰
I gotta say, I first discovered this song today through this upload, went to check out the original, and MAN did you guys really make it your own! This is exactly what I love to see in song covers: finding ways to strengthen or improve a song, and I can't imagine this song any other way that with this faster tempo with a harder-hitting rhythm and absolutely killer saxophone with an equally energetic stage performance, so thank you for sharing this with us! 💕
Thanks for what you wrote; happy you enjoyed it! We'll be uploading more live covers over the next few days, and hope you'll have the same reaction to those ✨
