I could see at the very start that the car that hit her was already at something of an angle. The rider should have been on the defensive with slowing down being ready to full stop because of how the car was positioned. Having the law on your side is never a reason to play with your life and assume any drivers can see you or has done all their checks before doing anything. I say this about pedestrians all the time with zebra crossings, you may have the right of way, but the car may not have seen you while you casually walk across the road playing with your life without making sure they're slowing down to stop.

I've been riding for over 40 years. If you're going to split lane, know the risk it comes with. You can blame the car driver all day, it still won't change your injury. Practice emergency braking and veering. It falls on your shoulders.
