Hi, we are Titus and Fannie. Married at 20 and 21 (May 2020), we are in the process of embarking on a non-traditional lifestyle journey. Follow along for updates on our life, cooking with Fannie, and many other aspects and lessons we share. We don't have it all together but that's the exciting part! See how Fannie's eyesflair at 8:50 at the barn frame stunt! Just FYI, that was really a very dangerous stunt (the barn frame weighed over a ton.) that is a nod to a classic silent film comedian (not sure if Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Harold (Lloyd?) or someone else). Titus, I'm sure you have gotten it before but you look a lot like Matt Damon when he was your age. Fannie, you look a fair bit like Jodie Foster. At 11:00 ... the dreadlocks are a nod to the original artist (Coolio) of the song he is parodying. You guys also probably missed the Gilligan's Island tv show lyrics: "No phone, no lights, no motor car, Not a single luxury, Like Robinson Crusoe, It's primitive as can be." The ending was filmed with Wierd Al, doing everything backwards (including singing appropriate backwards lyrics to make it seem like he was singing forward). Fannie caught that something was off when he "caught" the hat but didn't comment.
I didn't grow up Amish but I did grow up on a corn farm in east Ohio with no electricity and everyone around us were Amish. My granddad had a giant van and was the go-to guy for any Amish that needed a ride. I guess I'm as close to Amish as one could be while not actually being Amish.
I think "Even Ezekiel thinks my mind is gone" is a reference to the Book of Ezekiel in the bible which describes visions Ezekiel had of winged creatures with four heads of different animals and turning wheels in the sky, so if even a guy who sees this kind of wild stuff thinks you are out of it, that says something.
Praise the Lord Jesus for your wonderful testimony. This nation is now to be judged, but you and your husband are in a good place, under HIS wing of protection and spreading the seeds of the gospel! Lord bless you and keep you.
The names used are biblical names and Amish do take their names from the Bible maybe Fannie doesn’t know these names, but weird Al does. He’s Jewish whether he lives by these beliefs or not. His last name jankovic. It sound like her Amish community might not be one hundred percent like weird Al’s her, but it is known by the Amish giving tours of their plantations and communities that weird Al isn’t off. It is also known that for their entertainment the young Amish perform this on stage as production making fun. Weird Al said he never had problems with the Amish over it. It does make fun or light of the Amish. It shows a life style not how every community lives or not how every community practices their beliefs. Al is pretty close.
lol in my experience with the Amish as a vendor… nothing they sell is at discount price 😂😂 it’s usually extremely high quality craftsmanship and the price reflects that.
The Amish are pacifists because of the Bible line "Thou Shalt Not Kill". That is a mistranslation from the Greek, where the word means "murder". So "You shall not murder" is the actual commandment. So the Amish get a free out, because of the version of the bible they use.
Thank you for this reaction, I have learned a lot about the Amish culture, with all due respect to those who seek peace at the lifestyle level. I accept but disagree with the religious side of it, however those who draw actual peace from religion are honorable. It is a parodic work of art, so the exploitation of stereotypes is a natural trait. However, in this too the Amish way of life is respectable(unlike many other religious ways of life), although it is radically contrary to their beliefs(taking pictures, partying), when the ignorant mass of stupid outsiders challenge them, they do not respond aggressively, but exactly according to their beliefs. A wonderful parody, with an instructive reaction. Be good!
I don't mind the pausing, but you missed lots of jokes. Before resuming each pause, skip back 5 seconds. How's this chick on camera if she's Amish? I don't get it.
Depending on the community (because they’re very independent of one another) they’re allowed certain electrical luxuries if the end goal is to better sustain their way of life. For example, there’s a video floating around out there of an amish dude using a drill to build a house. They’ll allow certain things while still retaining the title of Amish rather than Mennonite.
Just curious, if there's no phones and such, what about an emergency? Thanks for the video. It was neat to learn about the culture as well as how they do things now versus the past, like the butter churning.
I thought maybe it was her registering that something was wrong because that is the part of the video that has weird al moving backwards so when they reverse it everything else is going backwards.
Gansta's Paradise was released in 1995, Amish Paradise was released in 1996. I have no idea what your "2009" date came from. This is from the mid 1990's. It's okay, you haven't even paid the phone bill in 300 years, I'll forgive you for this one.
the reason he had dreadlocks was he was doing a Coolio song, doolio wore the at the time and i think it was him being funny about it. the line. no phone noe lights no motor car not a single luxory, like robinson caruso was as primitive as can be, i sactaully a line from teh Gilligan's island theme song that he utilized and made work in this
Did you have to sit separately? The genders would not normally mingle. The wood benches are much easier to sit on with a pillow. You would usually wait a year before placing the marker. The family would then gather before placing the grace stone.
