Saw them in Kelowna BC despite trying to convince friends to skip the event. Had no urge to see them. Man was I wrong. Turned out to be one of the best concerts I ever attended. Small venue and they had the crowd right into it. Then when the place was supposed to close down at 2am they asked the crowd if they could keep playing and kept rocking for another hour. What a great night. I was shocked at how good they were in concert.
I saw them live for $12, Canadian, a couple weeks back at the Cloverdale Rodeo. Love these guys. They are a great piece of Canada. My band covered some of their tunes back in the 90s. Their music never gets old.
i bought this album almost 30 years ago second hand. don’t know the band but the shop owner recommended it. no regrets on my side. every track is catchy and well produced. best bucks i ever spent.
Such a very underrated 54•40 song & an even more underrated band imo. I’m a big “Tragically Hip” fan but “54•40” is right up there with “The Hip” hands down maybe even slightly better imo. “54•40” came out a few years before “The Hip” & both bands gained a lot of fans.
5440 (1980) and DayGlo Abortions (1979) are definitely Canadian Bands who have stood the test of time. It's cool 5440 owned the Smilin Buddha Punk Bar sign @ donated to a Vancouver museum. Many great bands played the Smilin'Budaah Cabaret
Such a fabulous song. Too bad they never play it live. I've requested a live version forever but they only play it for fancy friends. So said they let this gem be forgotten. Paid to see them at least 20 times. Just once please.
Move to Port Angeles, Washington where I hear Canadian rock stations out of Vancouver and Victoria every day, and now this song is stuck in my head. These guys are amazing.
These guys were kinda sleeper hitmakers in their time. They were on the radio, everyone knew their songs, but they remained a lesser known Canadian favourite. Cheers to one talented band and all their fans.
