Arguably the Greatest 1st 5 in the 70s, early 80s. According to rugby union academics at that time

One of the messiest passages of rugby I've seen, probably due to the high stakes. Blanco's try secured France a 30-24 victory and a place in the final.

This was the last Lions tours when the hosts played their international in the provincial games. It made for some very interesting clashes outside of the tests - games v North Harbour, Otago, Auckland, Canterbury, and NZ Maoris were all crackers. It is a shame now they are playing weak mid week teams,

The Ulstermen made the difference on this team McCoy, Anderson, Carr, Matthews, Ringland and Crossan. Never again would so many Northerners line out on Irelands national team.

Quelle Finale !!!

Athletic, agile players running into space and looking to pass, instead of trying to win the collision and set up another phase.

Return the rules to substitutes only for injuries and the forwards will get smaller. And if they remain huge then the opposition will run them off the park in the second half and massive holes will open up in the defensive line.

Some beautiful rugby from the French, lovely change of angles as well as keeping their depth something that many in the modern era aren't very good at as they often overun the ball.

Yes, because the forwards had to last the full 80 minutes so they were not built like brick outhouses.

France wearing Canterbury of New Zealand shirts, if not also shorts and socks, and I can say I never have seen them wearing anything but Adidas in other years in this era. There are also TV numbers on the sleeves, like jerseys in American football.
