This channel is dedicated to revealing lost treasures in Horror, Fantasy, and Science Fiction literature. It is inspired by the Joubert quote, “The worst thing about new books is that they keep us from reading the old ones.” I want to give you a platform to discuss older works, explore things you may never have heard of, and engage with the greats of these genres.

@theworstthingaboutnewbooks6006 I urge you to begin that process as soon as possible. I'm no disability lawyer, but I feel like you would easily qualify. And, with a stabilizing income and housing situation, you'd be free to create more, and different, content. Though, monetizing it would likely not be advisable, since it could threaten your eligibility for assistance.

I think Michael K Vaughan's channel on youtube provides a great model for content creators who want to discuss the kind of books we like to read. Get some cool props, make sure your bookshelves look appealing and inspire the imagination, make a lot of "top 10" videos of substantial length, get some rudimentary video editing skills to make the video icon look appealing, etc - I think you could probably match his subscription numbers (20,000).

Comic books are dying. You will probably get more views on you channel covering d&d and video games. A few months ago I watched some older videos where you talked about Mystara and how the weird authors inspired the setting. I enjoyed learning about that. Maybe some Mystara lore videos would be good. Most of what people know about d&d is 5e based so Mystara may not be oversaturated like lore on the sword coast. Anyway, I'll watch some more of your older videos.

Hey, Abraham. I think you should do what you love (which will make it easier). So if it's games, definitely branch in that direction. You might have to "re-brrand" (I hate that word) your channel. I think I've mentioned this before (over a year ago) but I'll mention it again: you are remarkably well read in many genres (subgenres), and can easily spot patterns, tropes, and have very solid story instincts, all of which would make you a good developmental editor, or at least someone who's opinion it would be nice to have. You might want to consider charging a reading fee just giving indie writers feedback (privately, not in public videos). But, of course, this is just what I think, my bias. People with much lesser experience than you charge to give "coverage" all the time. Anyway, just a thought. I'm pretty surprised just by your knowledge of weird fiction alone. Cheers.

Sometimes, his stories almost read like scripts! By the way, I see "Hiero's Journey" and "Unforsaken Hiero" among the books in the background, and, like many of the great books in your collection, I have that duology, too! Loved it! All the best!

Thank you!! I haven't read that one! I know Mr. Del Rey was a great writer and editor-publisher, but have not read much of his work! Abe, did you ever hear about his key influence on Terry Brooks for "Sword of Shannara" and "Magic Kingdom for Sale"? I read somewhere that Mr. Brooks really gives a lot of credit to Mr. Del Rey for pushing Brooks to really do extra work on "Shannara" and that those edits and re-writes were big developments for Mr. Brooks. And "Magic Kingdom" that first in the other series by Mr. Brooks, was an idea that had been sent to Del Rey books, and Mr. Del Rey suggested that Terry Brooks take it up and run with it. They paid the person who had the concept, and Mr. Brooks wrote some really fun tales in that world! Id better fly, but want to send my best! :)!

I appreciated a lot of the nuance of this very fair video. I will challenge at least one aspect of what you said, although it’s Derleth’s fault for misleading people with his phrasing: arguably, Derleth didn’t invent Cthugha. The fire being Fthaggua came from Wandrei’s 1933 story “The Fire Vampires”. Derleth basically incorporated this entity into the Mythos, and it also served the purpose of rounding out the four elements. People need to realize that Derleth was a synthesizer. His Solar Pons stories put Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, Carnacki, the Saint, and Fu Manchu all in the same continuity. Same with the Mythos: he wanted to combine the Circle’s writings into one continuity, along with the writings that had inspired them, including Blackwood, who definitely has elemental beings. One way to blend Lovecraft and Blackwood was to say that the Old Ones were also elementals. (It’s like Philip Jose Farmer saying that characters in Sherlock Holmes stories were *actually* relatives of Tarzan and Doc Savage.) It’s not totally faithful to Lovecraft, but that’s because Derleth is building a bigger world than just Lovecraft’s world. Similarly, he fits “The Fire Vampires” into the Mythos, and now he can make the elemental connection even stronger. It’s kind of fan fictiony, like when Alan Moore makes Moriarty into the first James Bond M, but that’s also part of the fun. (And remember that Solar Pons exists in the Mythos, which means all these fictional crime story characters coexist in the same universe as the Mythos!) You don’t have to enjoy Derleth’s pastiches, but it’s worth recognizing how he was the forerunner of things like “cinematic universes” and how he was, in his modest way, quite a great world builder (even if his prose isn’t as powerfully haunting as Lovecraft’s or Howard’s). Maybe that nerdy world building has gotten out of hand, either in Mythos writers or in modern cinema, but it’s also an extremely nerdy thing to do and can be a lot of fun, and Derleth deserves recognition for how he did it.

I did not believe how short it was, but it did the job. We have a nice, descriptive movie starring Nicholas Cage now, and while it's a bit more body horror than expected, it describes how alien a change HPL envisioned. I quietly enjoyed Cheech Marin's role, he was clearly overlooked earlier for his glaring talents in his earlier identities.

Zelazny was in the elevator when a short but crazy famous writer hitting his zenith pitched a tall conventioneer with a rude invite for his room. Her response to him became famous, Zelazny may embellish, or perhaps he was there, but in 83' this tale was legend by the time I heard it. "Hey Baby, what would you say to a little fuck?" "Hello, little fuck." Obviously this would not go well in any modern convention, but the then famous author took great pains to induce 'interesting conflict' rather than become a 'gadfly' (an old person who poses no danger).
