Hi Rudolf. Thank you for your great video's and informative website! As a beginner in glass I'm using your information as a good guide to getting deep into it. A few questions. - Are there alternative ways to cut the thick glass, as i do not have a glass saw. - What is a normal price for Dalle glas?
Che meraviglia come si fa a sapere come si chiama questa taglierina? Perché solo ora mi compaiono questi video ? Buona serata e grazie se qualcuno mi risponde 😘
Rudolf here did an excellent job demonstrating this forgotten process. I would add that if you are trying for maximum clarity, start by faceting the BACK of the glass. This is the part that will appear rough because it was in contact with the mold during forming. ;-) That is the side that should be chipped away.
First, it's not pronounced "facette". It's somewhat like a Sink's Faucet accept it's FASET ... FAS-ET ... Most importantly, this is no more faceting than assholes. This is Chipping, Flaking or at best Napping (like flint napping). Facets are generally smooth, flat faces created on a grinder and then polished. A faceting machine creates the Facets on a Gem stone (such as a finished Diamond or Ruby). It is interesting watching you chip away at this glass, but I think you could have easily (and probably should have) sawed the slab in half (in thickness) rather than chipping half of it away resulting in so much waste. Had you cut it in half, you would have twice as much material to work with and it appears both pieces would have been the depth/thickness you were after. Pointless Video in my opinion.
You can cut your shape out of paper, smear your glass with Vaseline and apply the design to the glass and cover that with the Vaseline. I have found this works best with really intricate cutting.
Rudolf, just wanted to thank you for the time and effort you put into this and the related videos, they're just great! Extremely informative and helpful! Oh, and you're creations are equally wonderful and original. Thanks again!
I do not do classic Dalle de Verre but my interest is in incorporating faceted slab glass ( Dalles ) into foiled stained glass panels. The entire process is detailed on my web site listed in the description of my 6 related RU-vid videos. There are many sites on the web describing the process of constructing Dalle de Verre panels or windows. The Stained Glass Association of America is a good place to start.
I like your videos on cutting dalles. I am just learning the art of Dalle de Verre. If you know the complete process it would be great to see a video of it.
