Carl was easily in the same league as Dio, Tate, Halford, and Dickinson, in terms of pure vocal talent. It's a shame that relatively few of us know about him.
The album is, top to bottom, outstanding. This tune, however, is a masterpiece. Every now and again a song grabs me musically and emotionally and this is one of the very few that do just that. The riff at the beginning is classic. Schenker's fill in leads are perfect (nobody does it better, but Slash does it pretty damned well). Phil's vocals are numbingly good...passionate, pained, borderline angry, hopeful and ultimately despondent. It's literally a perfect song.
Phil could have been a blues singer if he'd put his mind to it. The blues is about hardship and being down on your luck. "Woke up one Manchester morning No sun up in the sky Got the train down to London So broke I could make you cry" For me, this is the best track of an outstanding album. Love the lyrics - no waffle. Love the guitar work - no shredding. .
Back when I could only get they're albums through Mike Varney Music from Rock Magazine Ads. and he delivered all the way to Hawaii! Can I just say how many Metal Bands have such great guitarists that can sing harmony like Vicious Rumors??? I went insane un- Metallica when I heard this Band. So VR had a lead singer in Carl...well Lars couldn't ever compare to this drummer. Ha-ha ha. Now the Japanese female Metal Bands have carried the torch for over ten years that many bands these days can't come close to...Carl would have been so proud.
carl definitely the powerhouse vocals with so much feel and emotion love ya dude, vicious rumours been listening since there first album with vinnie more, lady took a chance is a monster .
Saw them in 95 at the Vic theater on Belmont Avenue in Sheffield in Chicago met them outside afterwards and had a drink with them my idols this album is the epitome of UFO
These guys were so damn good. Possibly the most unappreciated band that had such an enormous influence. Phil Mogg is one of my favorite singers..,.......and hell, the rest of the band, to me, fkn legendary
