A professional graphic designer and startup founder sharing his tips and tricks about freelancing and product design. I also occasionally share my travelling adventures. Hope Y'all enjoy the content.
Thank you so much man. Having graduated with an economics degree and moving back to my third world country where employed jobs pay scraps I had to open my own marketing and advertising agency but I knew nothing about design. Thanks to your video I am on my way to becoming a designer without paying for a single class. Thank you so so much.
Master web application design from start to finish. Our comprehensive guide covers planning, UX/UI, development, testing, and deployment for a seamless app creation process.
I am a graphic designer (currently still studying) and soon I am gonna switch from Windows to Mac. Many years I did completely identify with being a Windows user but the more I dug deeper intonthe graphic design world the more I became fan of using Mac. The main reason is that I everytime I see a design on a Mac I feel like it is really there. The poster is there, perfectly sharp and with true colors if it was already printed. Whereas, on my windows laptop I do not feel that way. The poster looks like "hidden" behind or filtered through a wall of pixels so to speak due to the lack of resolution. In graphic design it is a different if a line has 1pt or 0.5pt. Also fonts in 12pt look weird in "only" 1080p.
This is an interesting topic. I am a 55-year-old Senior Graphic Designer for a large corporation and also a freelance Graphic Designer. I never felt my age was a concern. Remember, clients or prospective employers are looking for experts in the industry and have a fantastic portfolio to prove it. If you claim or represent yourself as an expert, the employers will have a hint that what you are claiming is true. Don't think about your age; think about how you present yourself; after all, you are in the field of persuasion and deliverables.
I am a 53 year old woman that just graduated with my BFA in Graphic Design and self teaching in illustration and painting. I refuse to let this ageist world label me and hold me down. I keep up with current trends and styles and I know the history of art and design. If us "older" people are not allowed to retire until we are 62 then you're going to have to let us work until then! PERIOD> Also, remember this, if you are young now, you WILL be older soon. Don't be ageist. You'll only be hurting your future self. We are all human beings with feelings and aspirations. Love is the answer. The mindset that older people cannot adapt to technology as quickly as the younger generation is such an ageist way of thinking. It's such a lie. I can run circles around many people in the tech world. Don't judge people by how they look. You don't judge people by the color of their skin or by their sex, so don't judge us by the number of lines on our faces and we wont judge you for your lack of experience lines. You are me and I am you.
Right now, I am trying to learn the softwares and to learn how to design what to do I am constantly copying the tutorials on RU-vid. If I continue to do that, at the end, may I start to design my own work
Michael Beirut spoke at Spalding University one time in Louisville Kentucky for an AIGA Conference. When I asked him the same question (because I had a problem with a teacher at my college), the one thing he said specifically is that design has no age limit.
Thank you very much for the grid system tutorial, Im working on a web app project now and I’m probable gonna use grid system, I wish you could go more in depth into how crafting out the layout of a web app is done, how to know what navigation contents and layouts to use and cards etc
I'm confused though because the width of the columns in the blue is 74 (not a multiple of 8), making the card a size thats not a multiple of 8. I'm new to UI so I think I'm missing something
the width of the grid will also be changing based on the display size. So the content itself doesn't have to be a multiple of 8. We do try to keep the padding/margin sizing to match the 8px rule tho.
😂 Bro what's the purpose of this video if you just quick look and say no to everything. You definitely cannot be a hiring manager It Feels Like You judging a book by its cover. Please show us your super cool and perfect portfolio so we can learn 😎👁️
I can't thank you enough Kayung, got 3 offers from product based companies! I tailored the answers a bit to my needs but kept the overall structure and in a couple interviews I had these exact questions asked to me.
I wish I had seen this video a few weeks back. I went into an interview and just screwed up so bad. I have all the skills and competence of the job and I do it everyday, but when they started asking me questions I just froze and wasn't able to answer well. Went on rambling. Now I can see it is exactly because of this whole power dynamic thing. I positioned myself lower as an employee in my mind and appeared as not confident. This tip is really practical and helpful. Hope I can practice and implement it. Thanks man!
@@KaYungCalebLai Actually, it's great to see your answer! I'm leading a big web application project. Perhaps a video on the use of Scrumban and those things. I already saw your comments about more useful stuff like Jira and Whimsical. Also, a video about the use of Figma it would be great. Thanks! ♥
Hey I am new to this field. After asking with so many seniors , I got to know that I must have my portfolio to get a job( in behance or dribbble) . Okay so I have created my account on behance but i dont have anything to upload there. I followed some UI design tutorials from youtube and posted there . I still need to learn UI design basics like typography, spacing , alignment, padding, border radius, fonts, typefaces and much more. I have a idea in my mind that I will redesign my university's mobile application because it is very bad user friendly. How can i start ? I found your video after searching so much on RU-vid. I just cant design a whole application from scratch at this level.
To this day, this still has to be one of the BEST videos on this topic out there! A lot of videos just ramble on and dont really give specific steps on what to study and all that. So thank you for your clear, succint video! Another tip that I think might help, and correct me if im wrong, but maybe looking at the curriculums of graphic design programs, seeing what they include in their classes, and looking up information based on those classes that they offer on your own.
I know money comes into play when self taught and learning on your own and making money and downloading a bunch of apps and learning hands on works well when your a visual learner and learning full time with designer without going through General ed courses but learn all the aspects of digital design and sketch apps that relate to what you need to put on your portfolio
Q: How did you develop work contacts through AIGA w/o a college degree? I'm asking because it seems my college gives me a hard time about talking to the members unless you're enrolled.
I watched AIGA Buisiness of Chapters,...Q: Is it possible that in order to be a self- taught designer or be a designer, you need 18 months of operating cost for cash flows? 💸 A: I think it's yes.
Can this tip work on me because my aim is to learn graphic design only as a hobby or side hustle. but finding a mentor is already a red flag to me since i am very introverted. is there a way to substitute that idea?
I am working as a graphic designer in a leading E commerce company in India. Is it possible to get remote jobs..earning in dollars. We actually don't earn much in India, and I don't have that finance to move to other countries right now. If someone is seeing this comment, could anyone please help me in getting at least some work from other countries
thanks for sharing this dude, you answered alot of my questions. maybe you could do a video of how to interview/find a offshore engineer. I find it hard to trust/pay anyone that I just met online knowing that so many scams going around
Yea so that's why I think finding someone locally first is important, hopefully that local dev can help you interview, review code and make sure the offshore dev is legit. I tired 3~4 devs before finding the right one.
honestly, school wont teach you that much, 4 years is a waste of time, diploma doesnt even matter. will, determination, patience, passion, skills and experience will make you successful
