Elias tenia mejor rechazo y juego aereo , buena anticipacion .
Was a goalkeeper myself playing in New Zealand…who worshipped Jennings…saw him play twice for Arsenal at Highbury and Elland Rd. Loved by home and away fans everywhere.
Gordon Banks in a magazine, i can't remember which magazine it was gave an assessment of British goalkeepers and he said Clemence is good, Shilton is Better, but Jennings is the best he has ever seen. A truly great goalkeeper.
Ahora los guardametas, no blocan. Como los porteros de antes. Que lo hacían sin guantes. Ahora solo repelen los chutes. Antes era muy ortodoxos, y muy buenos. Banks, Yashin, Mazurkiewitz, Iribar, Sadurní, etc.
Yes he did... but a keeper can do just as much. Vs West Germany he saved 8 times 6 of them inside the box, but they still lost 2-1. How is that his fault again?
@Rashidgoalie yeah but doesnt quiet fit his legacy. 1962 was one of the Bad gk campaigns. But he had his 1960 euros and 1963 england vs rest of the world.
@@dvra2203Nah, Yashin actually performed in 1962 but happens that Garrincha was just unstopabble at the elimination match for USSR in the World Cup. Garrincha arguably had a higher peak than Pele in the callendar year of 1962, I think only Maradona in 1986 could compete, honestly. But Yashin in that World Cup, if you watch the videos played perfectly and saved most goals in group stage, so sad he couldn't make goals for the win.
Espectacular!.
Figueroa probably lacked the pace and stride of Beckenbauer, but he excelled in every other aspect of the game. Strength, stubbornness, header, reaction, anticipation. In the overall, he was the best.
Euro 1968 was really close to being Italy vs England final then it happened in Euro 2020 and Italy won their 2nd title and Euro 2020 was also really close to being Italy vs Denmark final let's hope that will happen someday and Italy will win it
i think his strength in long throws come from his days as a brick carrier. most of his saves look "boring" because his positioning was so good. he anticipate a lot of shots and got there before the balls were struck. He held onto the shots and crosses....winning possession for his team. He does not exaggerate his saves like modern goalkeepers do. his sweeping and covering were unusual in those days
thanks for the superb compilation, most comprehensive one i seen on Banksie. great goalkeeper and human being...humble, humorous, hardworking, brilliant and bounce back from crippling eye injury. how the clubs he played for and managed treated him was disgraceful
Likes of Buffon and Neuer (my references are 10 years old) might be better generally in the modern game, but no better shot-stopper (and holder on to) ever than Jennings.
