Justin Sandercoe is one of the world’s leading guitar teachers. His website, JustinGuitar.com - home to over 1,300 free video guitar lessons - has helped millions of students to learn guitar. Justin was a pioneer of internet tuition and he saw the opportunity to make high-quality guitar instruction available free to the world online. His videos have over 350 million views, and an accompanying series of songbooks and DVDs are bestsellers.
Prior to focussing his time and energy on the website, Justin was a sideman for artists such as Katie Melua and Carla Bruni, and he taught at the Guitar Institute in London. He draws upon over 20 years’ experience as a player and teacher in his lessons and has identified the stages at which many guitarists struggle, and how to help them progress to get the most out of their playing. His methods have a huge worldwide following and have drawn accolades and recommendations from stars such as Steve Vai, Mark Knopfler and Brian May.
I play guitar an have played for years, just ordered a ukulele an it arrived today, a rockjam carbon fibre ukulele in black looks like a mini Les Paul lol, took ages to get it tuned using RU-vid lol , I can tune a guitar in two mins with new strings on but the ukulele very different to tune, learned chords am f c g d a in 30 mins so off to not bad start, just feels a bit weird, I'm used to picking up guitar an playing anything but find myself needing to think a bit with the ukulele at the moment,is this normal when going from years of guitar playing 🤔😁🏴
I measured my hand its 17cm long and when my fingers are together pressed together, the base of my 4 fingers, ie the width of my hand, measure just 7cm I actually think it's physically impossible to do this exercise. to even touch the thickest string with my pinky I need to jam the palm of my hand into the neck. stretching my fingers across frets is possible when there is space between my palm and my the neck but impossible when my whole palm is sticking to the neck. I guess I will be sticking to micro shifting when handling the thicker strings
“You’re playing the guitar. It’s play, have fun! You don’t work the guitar, you play it! “ Might be one of the best things I’ve ever heard. Everyone should hear this, we make music to have a good time, nobody can be forced to make music.
Please buy Justin’s books and subscribe. I rely on his site and videos continually so I always try and give him something but buying his books or subbing
What an amazing thing you're doing!! God bless! My husband and I just recently stumbled upon a Giannini style craviola guitar in a pawn shop and put it on layaway on the spot. It has been over 5 years since he could play because he had a 4 wheeler accident that permanently damaged his right arm. I never thought he'd be able to play again and knew if we were to, by chance, find a guitar, it would happen just that way. In a pawn shop, where he could pick it up, feel it out (no instrument retailers here). Anyhow, just stumbled across your channel, I'm brand new, learning. Thank you so much for all you're sharing!
14 chord changes on first try I got myself a guitar in 2017 but unfortunately got no platform to learn it from and ever since i have been nagging to learn it somehow and when I finally decided to learn it, this channel showed up. I mean now or never, right? Anyways Thanks a lot for your efforts.
Funny thing i saw this video 6 months ago and gave it a try for an hour. After i totally forgot it. 10 mins ago i sumbled again on the video and after lil bit of practise i did the scale without knowing that i actually learned it. Now the thing is do not know is what to do with it. lol
Question: Started playing at 55ish been a year, thanks for your help. When plucking do you have to pluck all the strings that your fingers are supressing on a fret? Is the base string the primary that you absolutely must pluck?

I could not play anything until i was 24. Then i learned very slowly and thought I'd never learn the tricksy chords. Im 59 now and learned more in the last 5 years than the previous 30. I use the nanoo nanoo technique.
I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since 2014. Hip replacement in 2017 and a FU to RA in 2018. Could not dress myself, wash or dry my body, climb up the stairs unless I used my forearms for 2 years. I started a diary for my diet, then started exercising & lifting weights, golfing, now guitar and the F cord is a F U. Hand is struggling in this fight but Kirk Hammett riffs 2024 Oh and diagnosed with osteoarthritis 2 weeks ago. I will die with RA but I refuse to die from RA.
So I gotta swing thru and throw you a thank you I’ve known a few different ways, all to the same end result. This is the best , fastest method I have seen, I’ve been playing since my teens, I’m now 50 yo and feel I’ve finally mastered stringing a guitar Cheers and thank you
In a Word, If You are Impatient? You will never be a musician. SLOW is ur friend. You may learn to play something. But it will always be Bad, sound poor, be sloppy, etc. FAST is the GOAL, Not the PROCESS. The only way to get fast is to go slow. 40 bpm or even slower, If THAT'S what it takes. If ur Fast in a Hurry to get somewhere n have No Patience? Ur wasting ur time trying to Be a musician. Sry.
Thank you so much for this Justin. I'm 70 years old and I have all the rhythm of a drunk pecking chicken. Somewhere off in the distance, I can see some tall dude wearing a black cloak and holding a scythe. I figure that if I learn to play an instrument, I might be able to amuse him before we have to leave together. So, thank you for making this first part easy enough to filter through my pre-addled brain and convincing me that I might want to keep going with this until I can play "Rainbow Connection" for my wife... who is now wondering why I am now wandering around the house singing ♪♫...My dog has fleas...♫♪ ;-)
1) Folsom Prison Blues 2) Wooly Bully 3) Lodi 4) Margaritaville 5) Love Potion # 9 6) Proud Mary 7) Louie Louie 8) I fought the Law 9) Wild Thing 10) Bad Moon Rising
I put a query out on my local commumity page to see if anyone played guitar and wanted some one to practice with. 20 odd people turned up the first night at all different levels. We ended up splitting the group to beginners and intermediate advanced. We meet on 2 seperate nights. We now have 6 regular intermediate/advanced players and 4 beginners. And my playing has improved so much We have a playlist that we work through everynight to warm up and then we work on a couple of new ones We have a couple that play the rhythm in different ways and one take the lead. I like the idea of using a capo...we havent done that yet.
