@@dennisjordan5138 The 22 mag has a better bullet for expansion preformance. But not really any ballistically superior at least not appreciably. So would depend upon the accuracy of the rifle.
I have a 24c .22/20ga. Mine has storage for ammunition in the butt stock. It’s a little sliding cover that holds 2 shot shells and 8 or so .22 rounds. It also has the selector on the hammer. It’s short and maneuverable. It’s one of my favorites as well. I’m going to try that air gun idea. Thanks for the video!
I haven’t had the cases completely separate but I get the crack on hornady brass after 4+ reloads I’m curious to see how adjusting the dies up maybe 1/8 will affect it
@@cw2agood work, I’ll need to look in my notes and see what my setting was on my dies, just started bedding a stock for one last night which is a brand new chamber / barrel so I’ll be able to monitor from a fresh start.
Just finding your whelen videos, so I’m behind. Is your chamber a custom cut chamber? I noticed by using a die bottomed out as per standard setup procedure, if I used hornady brass brand new I’d get 3-4 reloadings amd they would start to stress crack at the head. Any other brand it was not doing that, and these were not max loads.
It's a custom rifle, but a Sammi reamer was used. My dye position is determined by the shoulder bump Im seeking. Case head cracki g?? Id try better brass! I have never had a case head crack. Necks shoulders and bodies yes! Proper Annealing can help prevent this.
Tried to post reply it might double up, But yes with hornady brass it will crack where that same ring shows up on yours. RP sized 06 brass, Winchester brass, and Norma 35 whelen brass all show the same on outside as yours but do not crack. This is in 2 different factory whelens.
@45-70Guy Sounds like case head. In my case this was a result if pushing shoulder too much. Check my videos on shoulder bump. Might help you see and understand.
@@cw2a I’ll check out your others. Good to find another whelen guy. I have a few whelens I got dialed in but it’s an addictive habit to reload so I have a few more whelens to mess around with. One being a reamed Remington 760 to 35 whelen AI.
Did i miss the range review on these loads? Or is it posted, cant seem to find it. Really curious about how the varget worked for that. Nosler finally has some of those on shelves, albeit $2 apiece
I should have it in my playlist for the 35 Whelen. I'm pretty sure I did a video on it, but I'm not 100%. It was sometime ago. I don't remember getting great results accuracy wise with Varget.
Thirty some odd years ago I traded a .32 Walther ppk to my dad for a Contender with a. 14" .45-70 barrel and I've been hooked on them ever since. With barrels ranging from 10 - 24 inches in calibers from .22 lr to 45-70 it's been a blast. My newest barrel is a 22" MGM barrel chambered in .25-20 wcf. It has been a daunting task trying to locate brass for it though. The .256 win. sure looks nice right about now LOL.
That's a nice-looking range you're shooting on there! My homerange goes out to 300 yards. I regularly shoot 22's out to two hundred with no problem. When I stretch it to 300, it can get pretty tough!
I started with them around 91’. My TC Omega is STUPID accurate. I use 3, 50 grain pellets of tripple 7 with a TC 300 grain original shock wave. I still think there’s some of these bullets out there for sale. The first time I shot a three shot group at 100 yards they all went in the same hole! I’ve repeated it several times. Back before Nikon put out there drop program with their ballistic Plex. I had to call them to figure out what the drops were in my optic. I had it cited in 3 3/4 inch high at 100 yards on 10 power. The center of the circles were dead on at 200, 250, 300, and 350 yards. After I sighted it in at 3 3/4” high at 100 yards ( all in the same hole) I tried them all at 200, 250, 300, and 350 yards and they were dead nuts centered with the circles. My three shot groups meaured 1 5/8” at 200, 2.5” at 250 and 300 yards!!!, when I got out to 350 my groups fell apart to 12” on center groups. My traditions side lock I get them all to touch at 50 yards using PC’d lee REAL boolits and no lube with 60 grains of Pyrodex. Always wanted one of those savages and and the Remington that takes almost double charges.
I sprayed a little Rockford aresenal mold release spray in my trigger group after I got it down to just under 4 pounds. The graphite spray dropped it down to under a pound. After about 30/40 trigger test cycles it jumped to just under 2 pounds.
Good evening buddy. Just finshed this Friday at 830pm try to watch at work on down time. Cool looking barrel. I been temp few those. One 14inch was 357max . Guy used hunt deer in ohio with let go bc pick up few different big boar wheel guns. Also one 7mm tmu /22mag and 357 mag barrel. Passed on it also. Busy day tomorrow got work early 😴 and run over vw look at a used suv .replace my car blown electrical that I got rid bankruptcy. I got beater of my wifes mom's need give back
The Contender is such a nice system. All my barrels and grips are for the pistol configuration. The 14" 45-70 barrel can be quite a handful. On the opposite end the 256 Win Mag provides a lot of power with very little recoil.
@@davem4193 Yes sir Dave!! I don't know that we will see actual Contenders. As there rights may have been sold to SSK. But Encores for sure! Hopefully the barrels for G1 & 2 guns!
@cw2a good to know, I knew someone was producing Contender frames but I wasn't sure who. Hopefully TC reopens the Fox Ridge custom shop they used to have.
@cw2a yes, I live in NH so I used to go there to buy barrels. I never got a custom barrel there, just factory offerings but I remember it was reasonable to get custom barrels back then. Yes, I have been following the new owner here on YT. I'm so glad he brought it back to NH. I know someone who used to work there. You got me curious about the SSK Contender. I did some reading and found an article about it. From the best I can tell SSK didn’t actually buy the rights to the Contender. Apparently the patents ran out on the G1 so SSK makes a stainless version of the easy open G1. They named it the SSK-50 because they can't legally name it the Contender, the name is still owned by TC.
CW, what size is your factory bolt handle and what size did you get .487 or .497? I have a 2022 and they say to get the .497 as mine measures .496 which is not what their web site indicates. Thanks, Tom
Cw good to have you back my brother 🙏. Missed ur videos here. 😊. Love 300blk. 🎉. But say 😢the least temp few time let go in ar15 platform munch lot money 💰 sank into and ny first rifle build. Had few other guns 🔫 pull at me at few gun shops.
