I fish mostly saltwater on the Texas Coast of Galveston, Freeport and Matagorda. I do however enjoy offshore fishing in the gulf as well as fresh water fishing in and around the Houston and South East areas of Texas.

Great Vid Brotha! I just picked up my first Curado Dc 150 Hg today, im pretty stoked to get out tomorrow and fish with it. I have a couple of the SLX Dc's and love them, im sure the Curado will be even better!
Very informative video, but I would tone down on the background music a little bit. It gets a little annoying, and I’d rather hear what they have to say versus background music.
Respectfully disagree 2 fish will not change the eco system off the Texas Coast. It will definetly hurt the sport fishing and charter companies. No one is going to pay high dollar to get three trout. Guys like you catch but dont eat, which is not good tobegin with. Too much government regulation based on Austin opinon is wrong.Thwy will not move the limit back which sucks. Respectfully disagree.
The real question is, why are singular fishers being limited and no regulations towards commercial fishing?? And catch and release makes no sense. Now you’re just potentially putting the fish’s life at risk for no reason..
Hey Mike, great vid, use all of these lures consistently except the Mann's. After a little search I discovered that apparently the older Baby -1s are more sought after. What's your experience and how do you know which ones are the right ones? Double Stamp, no stamp, single oak barrel, double? 😜
Thanks for this video! I’m a pretty new angler. Have always used live bait but recently wanted to learn more about artificial. I found a slick this morning while jetty fishing. Almost broke my ankle getting to the slick to cast around it but hooked up 5 nice trout and successfully caught two keepers. Used a good ole mirror-lure.
Please give left hand retrieve a try… your right hand retrieve looks so uncomfortable/unnatural… I don’t mean this in a condescending fashion. Just an observation from the first clip you showed. You may enjoy it more once you’ve gotten used to it!
Also the clip at 8:30 you naturally were trying to use your right hand/arm as leverage on the fish. Again looks a little unorthodox. And could cost you some fish.
You did not mention light conditions. Sunny days in clear water I usually don’t want something with sparkle or glitter: go realistic. Murky and sunny: I would go dark without sparkle. Cloudy and clear: I go lighter with a little flash: bone diamond, that ice color, something maybe with some silver that captures whatever limited light there is. And now low light or cloudy and clear: something dark with some sparkle or flash. Maybe fire Tiger or something similar. I would use the bigger down south if the bait the fish are feeding on is bigger. Or maybe if ifs murky, the bait will have more of a presence moving through the water. Smaller if the fish are feeding on small shrimp, or baitfish. Smaller also if the water is more on the clear side.
I’ve had two Flats Cats now. A 1992 21’ and now a 2023 21’. These boats are absolutely amazing. The boat 100% sells itself. My dad and two uncles are proud Flats Cat owners as well. I think I’ve been on about every brand out there and I’m a lifer for the Flats Cat. Chris is a stand up guy and extremely sharp. The customer service from his company is unmatched.
i am interested in this boat & intend to sea trial near term but would you mind sharing your perspective on how the 21' flats cat performs in some deep, choppy river / bay water. I need to cut across or go through this type of water in order to access most flats I am interested in fishing. thank you
The 21’ takes chop like nothing. Obviously, when going through bigger waves take more caution. When I go through bigger waves I like to try to match the speed of the waves and hit them at a 45 degree angle. I’ve had better luck with the Flats Cat than many other Bay boats in rougher water. hey Mike, I saw your video on the new Flats Cats, much appreciated. I am going to contact them with this question as well but am hoping you'd share your thoughts & insights into how well you think the new 21ft Cat would handle rough river chop. I need to go through and across rivers for the vast flats fishing options in my area of lowcountry South Carolina, but there can be some chop and rough water to contend with at times. thank you
Per the Texas Parks & Wildlife reports, the 2021 freeze killed 3.1 million fish, 90% were non game fish. This leaves 310,000 fish that were killed, according to TP&W- of which they claim 51% were trout, approximately 160,000 fish. This was not a massive trout kill. Yes, Trout were killed during the freeze, but just look at the statistics. TP&W had already reduced the limit from 10 to 5 in 2014, even though they claimed the population was not in trouble. This is not my opinion, this is statements that TP&W have made.
So one of the tournament fisherman who pound the schools of redfish is going to tell everyone else they should not be able to fish a certain way and lower their limit. Maybe there should be a law of hom many tower boats Can fish a school of reds. I get so tired of counting 25 plus boats in a 300 yard stretch of Rocky Slough beating the reds to death. Yeah that’s sporty!
You seem upset, lol. So these redfish tournaments we fish… how many redfish are we killing? How many do you think I’ve killed? 0. That’s the answer. Most tournament anglers actually respect our fishery and release them. And I’m telling anyone how to fish. Fish how you want, but let’s all keep a little conservation in mind instead of killing everything we can. You are clearly “one of those outfitters”
The stingray thing is real. Spent most my life wading East Matagorda and fished clear water for the first time and was amazed at how many stingrays there was.
Scotts story reminded me of a time last winter im wading with my buddy in east gorda, he ties on a brand new $17 coastal marsh fat boy, literally out of the bag hasnt even made one cast with it. Hes got his rod in his armpit and jamming his box back into his wade belt when all of a sudden an overslot red smashes that fat boy and makes a run. He saved the rod but by the time he got his hand on the handle it broke off. I about pissed my waders laughing. Hes never bought another custom corky since
