Amateur automotive RU-vid videos, restoration, maintenance, DIY, how-to's, and casual garage idiocy. Hit me up if I screwed something up!
I'm currently rebuilding, restoring and hopefully Coyote swapping a 1989 Mustang GT fox body. It was my high school heart-car and I let it sit in my parent's garage for 18 years before finally towing it to my house and starting the restoration process.
I also regularly work on a 2003 Mustang, a 2006 Mustang GT, a 2019 Ford F-150, and a 2016 Ford Edge.

Thanks brother! Yeah, Mrs Sleazy really wants to do a big external garage with two lifts. I guess my hands are tied! 😂 It's not gonna happen any time soon unfortunately.
The starter relay trigger wire should be an 18 AWG red/lt blue wire. It should be energized by the ignition switch and the neutral/clutch safety switch. Also, I believe that ground you were questioning is the main ground for the ECU. It is critical that it be connected to a reliable chassis ground.
Ah amazing, thank you! The red with light blue was the one I ended up on. This car was converted to manual from automatic so I think there's a jump that was put in somewhere on the automatic's starter cut out. I'll have to trace through it. Thanks for the info!!
I can appreciate how long your project is taking! Complete restorations take time Brother! The fact that you were able to the battery installed and power to it is a great accomplishment! 💯👊🏾
Im thinking about putting a small pin or maybe a keychain ring to hold the safety switch on. Only had it for a week but its not as big an issue as all the 1 star complaints made it out to be. Seems to have plenty of power for grooving out cracks
That's not a bad idea. Agreed, I have bigger issues with the ungainly-ness of it with a big battery. Since I posted this, I haven't used it long enough (in the right angles?) to really miss the lock-on tbh. I think if I really had to I'd probably just put a zip tie on it temporarily.
@@SleazysGarage yeah the only thing I've really had an issue with is remembering to keep the trigger pulled all the way. I keep thinking it's bogging down a little when really I'm just relaxing my hold the variable speed trigger It's a nice feature to have when you're using a carbide burr in a tight hole but it'd be nice if you could lock it on full speed
Yeah man, I really like the modern touches. Looking forward to experimenting a bit with a 3D printer and some small board electronics when the car is done.
Thank you Rick! I had to surgically alter my treadmill because EVERY button press beeped. You can make copies of keys based on a picture. There are even services where you can send them a picture of your key and receive a duplicate. There's nothing that important on that key chain but better safe than sorry.
Thanks bro! Agreed, I think they offer the Ford one directly through their website but the only ones I could find on Amazon were the Chrysler and the deeply discounted Chevy version.
Great review, Sleazy! Funny... I was contacted by Launch to demo one of their scanners. I'll be doing that tonight, I hope. Also... I told them I wouldn't do it unless I could give it away after the video. I'm betting your device there is more capable. I have an XTool D7 that does everything I need it to otherwise, however.
Thanks 89! Definitely looking forward to seeing that review. I also have a dongle-type one I can plug in and it uses bluetooth to connect to the Torque app on my android phone. I hear you, my personal needs have classically been just read and reset codes, and check if it's ready for NY inspection. I do think this one may do the live data better than my dongle-type but admittedly I haven't look at Torque in a while, it may have updated.
@SleazysGarage I got my D7 because I need to to transmission relearn's with it. As a bonus, it's packed with loads of cool stuff. I'm still finding stuff all the time that it will do.
OBDII scanners run the spectrum, the $10 Amazon specials will work more or less but they are very basic. I'm a little turned off that it's make specific. Does it have live data capabilities?
I hear you. It does have live data, in some cases just the value but in others a live graph. You can also graph multiple parameters. My f150 had over 500 parameters to view live.
Honestly i wouldn't be surprised if it worked with little modification on many fords from the same time period. I'll do a more in depth video when I have doors on my car.
You make a fair point. One of the switches it came with seems to be a toggle switch, so I think you may be able to turn it off manually without uninstalling it, just in case. We'll see though.
@SleazysGarage wait did they actually make a kit or just buy a Chinese kit and pit there name on it? Cause alot of these are the same kit just diffrent names on it
No idea tbh. Id be very surprised if it wasn't made in China, there's some text in the instructions about how theyre a small business but otherwise very little info on the site. I can take a look next time I'm in the shop.
I'd guess the added aluminum layer holds the sticky rubber in place better than plastic or something. Maybe it adds a thermal barrier too? Not entirely sure tbh. Thanks for watching!
Right? I saw it on brew2l and pre-ordered from their website. I was actually a little sketched out since it wasn't on a platform like KS, but I'm glad I took the chance.
Just chimmin' in to thank you on your honest review of the EXACT one I'm eyeing for occasional use on replacing wheel bearings & all. Being stored in the shed, I wanted a small foot print. This one fits the bill!
Np bud, it's a decent unit for the price and you can definitely upgrade it. Not without it's faults of course but even expensive stuff has their trade offs.
Thanks brother! Finding good hardware is always such a chore. I kept all my original hardware and am restoring it but there's things like this where you need new stuff. That's hot-rodding though I guess.
It’s coming along great brother! That’s actually a great place to put the solenoid, makes me wonder if I could hide mine there instead of where Ford placed it! 😂 The bottom of your car is soooo clean 🫡
Thank you brother! This mounting spot is slightly complicated by the engine bay shaving but without that it'd be easy to flip it around. Oh man, I'm never doing an underbody resto without a rotisserie again, really glad it's done but never again! 🤣
That's awesome, nice piece of progress!! I'm also finding the "little" tedious stuff that I need to do while it's still cold. I just keep having to remind myself that it all adds up at the end. How close is Rustoleum white to the Oxford? I've never compared.
Thanks bud! The rustoleum is definitely a brighter shade of white. I think as long as I keep the outside one color it probably won't bother me much if the door jams and inside of the doors are a different shade. And if it does I can always paint it again later.
@@SleazysGarage Oh, OK. It seemed pretty close in the video. Maybe not so much then, lol. My door jambs still aren't 100%. I never finished the gray in there. I may take care of that when I pull the interior to do the carpet.
Hey folks, happy Sunday! Hit up sleazysgarage.com/stickers if you want a sticker. I've looked at some wiring diagrams for the starter solenoid but let me know if you know where any of those extra wires hook up. Thanks for watching as always and have a great week!
seems like a bad idea to have aluminum battery box so wires won't short to box and any acid won't eat away at aluminum box you could just get a plastic boat battery box. at least the agm should not leak acid.
I've been trying the peppermint oil. I think it works best when you put it right near or on their nest but it's tough to tell exactly where they're hiding now that I evicted them from the hood. But now that it doesn't freeze overnight I can try peanut butter traps.
i spray it pretty regularly on hood liner when i can't smell it i put more on saw signs of helicopter seed pods from maple trees under beauty cover luckily no chewed wires so far@@SleazysGarage
@@SleazysGarage teehee 🤭 good job tho . I insulated my work van walls best thing is did with it other than alarm and power locks . Soooo quiet no rattles from tools for hours everyday rockwool power 😂
