Turning around and going back home is exactly what I’d do but I drive a 2015 Honda accord sport only 5 inches of clearance with a lifted truck id do it
Dad was born (1927) and raised in Cowen. Grampa Noah (b. 1880) and a few of his brothers worked in Cowen on the B&O RR there. Mom and here Wilson people were from Webster Springs. Tho we lived in NW Ohio, we made this trek a number of times when we were kids visiting family there.
Where was this? This looks like either Day County or Marshall County in South Dakota. There were some bad years where at least 80% of Day County and at least 65% of Marshall County were under water. All the sloughs and Coulees were full and overflowing.
Any water like that gives me the heebie jeebies! Sure it looks calm but use your imagination!?!? Also, all that filthy dirty water high in your vehicle's engine area, no thanks Better to wait a bit (flood water might recede faster than you think) or find a way around it.
I have traveled this road 100s of times as a kid. My dad grew up here. At 14:45 you can see my mamaw’s, Laura Farley’s white house on the right. Tons of family lived up Birch Run Rd. So many memories. Thanks for sharing.
These are ideal conditions for crossing flooded roads. Shallow, clear standing water or shallow, clear, slow flowing water are absolutely fine to cross in most cases. You can see the road, so you know it's there and hasn't been washed away. It's not deep enough to dampen the carpet let alone drown the engine, and it's not flowing fast enough to carry the car away. Just go slow, put it in 4wd if possible and pay careful attention. Keep to the side the water is flowing from as that's less likely to have sucked away the base beneath the road and collapse from underneath you, and if you do start getting swept away you have time to react.
You should do a video of the bratwurst festival in bucyrus ohio. Awesome festival. I don't know if they still do the car shows but if so they are awesome to go to
