After performing the RAM upgrade the laptop won't power on. I performed again the RAM upgrade but this time I've notice the metal case covering the RAM has actually contacts. After mounting very precisely the metal case on the clamps the problem was solved. Be very careful with the metal case covering the the RAM module: -needs to be in the corect position pointing the CPU arrow to CPU -needs to be inserted exactly into the metal tiny clamps on all 4 sides Otherwise the laptop might not power on. What a pice of trash this laptop is in terms of upgrade procedure. HP should be ashamed. They purposely design this to be almost impossible to upgrade.
Great vid, you saved my old garage laptop, love this thing. Works perfect for diagnose-tools and stuff. Needed more ram and didnt see it when opened it up until i found this video - with a ssd its now running great again 😁👍
A massive help for a complex piece of kit - Am trying to find out why my unit keeps switching off after about 20 minutes. This helps a lot!! Battery is only 2 years old, fan is clean and working, so can only assume lack of RAM (4Gb) is not enough to run Win10/64.. so will follow your excellent guide to get in and upgrade.
So in the new versions, thankfully you take the back off instead, disconnect the battery and the memory is right there under a small cover. They must have gotten a lot of complaints and I was afraid to upgrade the RAM in my daughter's new laptop until I found out how much better and simpler it had gotten. It is such a big improvement! Thank you for this video though!
Effing ridiculous, they make these things so you cant even upgrade the memory anymore easily, now its do this monstrosity of a swap or get a new one, hmmmm.... I got 2gs in my pocket, believe Ill have to get another one with at least 32gb of memory as 16 sucks after a while, in fact, the whole laptop is starting to suck after 9 months... then again... they ALL suck after a year, unless its a $4k Mac Book Pro... nice... we dont even really understand how badly we are getting shafted as time goes on, this right here is the most ridiculous thing Ive ever seen and Ive seen many ridiculous things, but this takes the cake. Never again with an HP, I will ALWAYS make sure the RAM is easily upgradeable, this is simply not even cool...
@victor gonzales I've got all the way to the last screw on the motherboard and.... it's not only screwed in really tight... it's also burred... sorry to ask but If you can remember... any clue as to what kind of screws HP's take? or... would i find them in any standard pc screw pack?
HP designing their laptops like this actually turned me off of laptops for a while. It's incredibly frustrating that they'd make you pull the whole thing apart and put it together again for more memory. Had one like this as a teenager before I knew what to look for in a laptop, and it was hell trying to upgrade it myself. Now I use an old Fujitsu with 8GB RAM and SSD because there's only six screws in your way. (Also two RAM slots which HP rarely bothers with either)
Hi, i want to ask about the Pavilion X360. Is this hp pavilion x360 13-u031tu? If this the same type, i will be helped. Note : i know its too late to ask, but thanks before
Thanks so much for this video! Great video! ADDITIONAL SUGGESTION FOR THOSE WATCHING THIS VIDEO - don't forget to plug in the wireless adaptor when you remove (and reconnect) the mother board! Unless i missed it in the video, other than removing the little wire before moving the mother board, you should also make sure to watch out for the wireless card! I totally missed it and then had to trouble shoot why my network adapter is "missing" after installing the ram.
Fantastic video ... good speed, and great explanation. I appreciate the help, thanks! p.s. -- HP Engineers should be fired for a design that requires that the motherboard be removed to simply replace the RAM (very sad).
Hi there. Thank you very much for the vid. Do you please know if there are also two sockets in the hp pavilion x360 13-s40nz? I already have 8gb for the ram but i'd like to add another 8gb memory ram in a second socket. thank you very much
That was just great. It looks horrifying but, yeah, thanks for explaining so then I actually know what's happening (actually I am not experienced enough to do all this, but this might help when I will get one and upgrade it) HUGE thanks anyway. Imma save this video for later. You, sir, just earned a Sub and like :):)
