General Magic is considered one of the most influential Silicon Valley companies and one of the greatest tech teams in history - that nobody has ever heard of. The award-winning documentary tells the untold story of the original visionaries of the smartphone, who after a great failure, went on to change the lives of billions.
The award-winning documentary premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2018, and is now available to watch on VOD platforms worldwide including iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.
Produced and directed by the Emmy nominated Sarah Kerruish and Matt Maude, this award winning documentary features legendary members of the original Macintosh team such as Andy Hertzfeld, Joanna Hoffman, Bill Atkinson and Steve Jobs, alongside modern entrepreneurs and technologists Tony Fadell (co-inventor of the iPod and iPhone, creator of Nest Thermostat and founder of FutureShape) and Megan Smith (former U.S. Chief Technology Officer, founder of shift7).
hardware will always be a hassle. integrating the capabilities into the human system with no external touchpoints will be the next stage of evolution for technology.
General Magic is available to rent or purchase on iTunes, Amazon, Vimeo, Kanopy, Google Play and more: www.generalmagicthemovie.com. English-subtitled version available worldwide on Vimeo: vimeo.com/ondemand/generalmagic
"All the things were linked"... and yet the guy goes on and answers "we wouldn't have had Android if not for General Magic". That makes 0 sense my guy.
I have finished watching this video completely. (我看完這部影片了) I am a Taiwanese who cares about the global affairs. (我是一個關心全球事務的台灣人) And, sadly, most of my fellow Taiwanese don't really care about the world. (但是,很不幸地,我大部分的台灣同胞不那麼在意世界。) Hopefully Taiwan can become increasingly globally-aware and globally-competitive. (希望台灣可以越來越有全球意識與全球競爭力。) God bless Taiwan. (天佑台灣。)
What is the reason Taiwanese don't care about global affairs? Strict internet and media blocking? Censorship? Ignorance? Or complete lack of awareness of the existence of a world beyond Taiwan?
Hello to the old friends in Mountain view from your Philips PACE apostles of the Magic OS and Magic script. You made us dream. My best expérience ever.Thanks. François Leraillez
I did some industrial design concept ideation work for General Magic early in my product design career. What a blast from the past to see this documentary so many years later! :)
Totally stupid that you cannot legally watch in Germany! Who is the responsible idiot? Why not a pay-to watch-website?!?!? Why? I dont get it. fail. (I have to use an us proxy and then create a hulu account or something with fake data)
I just watched it in theaters yesterday! I'm an electrical and computer engineer student so I was really excited to watch this. It did not disappoint. Will definitely watch again when possible.
they just need to make a documentary of all the ways Microsoft protected its market. Should include 90% of that list and many not on the list, Go Inc, Dimension X, Coopers & Peters, etc. Lots of public court documents to validate and point to the companies attacked and why. Could probably even be a mini-series with more episodes than Firefly.
This movie is a lot of sour grapes. I feel these individuals where all pie in the sky and arrogant and self serving dreamers, but had no idea how to execute a great idea. I would argue that coming up with a great idea is not enough, it is the EXECUTION OF THE IDEA that really matters which requires a combination engineering, project management and business sensibility along with creative thinking. They had no clue how to market their product and ignored the most important rules of marketing (1) Customer Orientation (2) Market Focus (3) Coordinated Effort (4) PROFIT! They admit they told the ebay founder he had no chance and then ignored the world wide web, they did not deserve to win in my opinion!
IBM was the innovator, not GM. They built the first smartphone and brought it to market years before anyone in early 1992: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GUG7nwMmoUc.html

Indeed! Kinda weird that a doc that is this good, forgot about a detail that big.
It’s crazy to understand how far ahead someone can be of their time with a product or vision of the world. Profound that we live this reality today and almost take it for granted that things weren’t always this way.
I have the book - must take an get signed at the Computer History Museum screening coming up Aug 3rd, 2018 - www.computerhistory.org/events/upcoming/#general-magic
