interesting, but Haka is bad enough. Sick of it. So please, no Africa war/greeting dances. We white fellas don't have that background. Britishers and Boer trekkers are not Zulus. Apartheid was for a reason. By the way, there is a Maoris all blacks, a team based on race. Blacks did not serve on front line. After the sinking of the Mendi. On 17 July 1917, King George V, in a speech to the SANLC in Abbeville, called them 'part of my great Armies which are fighting for the liberty and freedom of my subjects of all races and creed throughout the Empire. deserved recognition

Correction apartheid was the word the world called our system of seperate culture development a system to keep friction away from cultures so that every culture can develop without another culture interfering, a system the world desperately needs now .

It wasn't Afrikaaner republics but Boer Republics the Afrikaaners were not the ones that fought against the British who defeated the mighty Britain but the Boers , their is a big difference between the two , still today we experience it .

Eric Cowley Saville my father's favourite older cousin was trained by the SAAF in Pretoria and ended up 2 Squadron SAAF (fighters) in North Africa. He was very quickly noticed and promoted Team Leader, Wing Commander. Transferred to RAF 60 (?) Sqn and then RAF 112 becoming Squadron Leader all before his 21st Birthday. He was awarded the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) for bravery, equivalent to MC, Military Cross in Army, and Bar to his DFC (2nd DFC). He was awarded the American DFC by the President of the United States posthumously. Eric shot down 11 enemy planes, making him a double ace. He also had several probables (shot down but not confirmed) and some combined (shot down with other fighters)Not mentioning any successes on the ground. Disappointing that he is not revered and remembered with the likes of Sailor Malan etc. Probably because he did not take part in the Battle of Britain He was killed in action during the Italian campaign. Eric Cowley Saville is buried in Italy ... and in the morning we will remember him. The picture of him above next to his plane is after a sorty he had had in Italy. He had run out of ammo and decided to attack athe enemy fighter (Italian ?) plane with his plane's wing. Inspecting the damage with OC (?). P40 Warhawk/Tomahawk/Kittyhawk made by Curtus Wright used by Allies in most theatres of the war but North Africa and Italy by British and Commonwealth countries. Powered by Allison V12 but not supercharged so inferior to ME109 and BF190 in speed and altitude, but flown superbly by our pilots in ground attacks against armour - Romels tanks and artillery. When British couldn't produce enough spitfires and hurricanes, so they ordered 600 P40's from Curtis Wright. They were at full production already for the States, so they approached North American to make them for them under licence. North American agreed but offered to build them a completely new plane from scratch instead. N A designed and built their own prototype with Allison V12 in six weeks called P51. The RAF liked it so changed their order for 600 North American P51's. The British RAF found that the initial ones were under powered so changed engines to Supercharged Rolls Royce V12 Merlins the same as the Spitfires. They named it the Mustang and they then had a fighter that could go all the way to Berlin and back to protect the Bombers. The rest of the order was supplied with Packard built RR Merlin engines. The Americans only later realized how good the Mustangs were with the Merlin engines. South Africans also flew Mustang's in the Korean War (1950-53) (As part of the League of Nations troops (Smuts) against Mig15's (jets) and did very well.Later they were equipped with Sabre's (jets) as well. (With thanks to my brother Andrew for research and information).

I clearly remember the Torch Brand stickers and going with my late father to a meeting in St Helena Welkom. We all sat in cars in the dark that formed a circle. and then the car lights went on. I'm so sorry not to have been able to save a box full of Torch Brand stickers. Things get lost when one moves.

I am biased because I was on Jammie Steps when he was speaking inside with speakers out to the throng, so I prefer Version 2, it was an unforgettable speech and night for me. We grew up in a home with Life Magazine, Saturday Evening Post, Readers Digest that my Dad subscribed to and Tarzan and Superman on the radio, my first film 'Around The World in 80 Days' from Hollywood. So America was a real presence in my youth and later when JFK became president and I was at high school. where boxing was a main sport, Floyd Patterson and Cassius Clay entered my life, so America really was a dreamland..

The new Cape Winelands Airport near Durbanville Cape Town should be named after Sailor Malan. It’s so close to where he was born as well as it makes sense in every way. 👍🇿🇦

My interest in Danie Theron stems from an old bible I was given 3 weeks ago. I grew up in Swaziland and Fish Hoek,South Africa and have a love for the country. At present I live in Dorset ,England…..Mud island I have heard it called.I was looking for some rhodesiana in an old bookshop in Sturminster Newton and the owner offered me a bible for free.InSide was an inscription Found at a boers farmhouse at Springfontein….. By …(…?) And on the title page P Vermaas Gebore 12 September 1880 Met liefde van BJJ Vermaas And so I have tracked Pieter Vermaas to his home at a farm in Losberg. He fought in Therons Scouts…… He was studying theology at stellenbosch university when the Boer war broke out and returned to the Transvaal to fight…..His family were put in a concentration camp in standerton, his family farm was burned down,he was captured on 7 January 1901 and sent to Burts island ,Bermuda. He only returned 15 years later to his home and fought with Smuts in SWA and Tanganyika. He sounds like an amazing man…..to me….and went through many troubles that were brought upon him by the greed of others. I have sent the bible to his family in London and it will be on its way soon back to the farm in Losberg where the family can read from this King James Version of the bible which is in Dutch. There was an interesting German missionary at Springfontein where the bible was found although I’m not sure if he found the bible at the farmhouse.his name was Christophe Sandrock and preached to all people…..so I wondered if Christophe had looked after the bible for all this time…..since 1900 or so…… The bible ended up in a charity shop in Port Elizabeth and was bought by a Mrs Herbert and brought to Dorset and sold to the bookshop 5 years ago….. Now it returns home

Great video, thank you! It made me think of this famous picture of the Transvaal Scottish from one of the world wars (probably two) where they are doing a barefoot war dance in their kilts. I always wondered whether that was inspired by our Zulu brothers.

Agree every SA tribe would want their particular battle cry included. It would take up a ton of time prier to the start of the game. Ban all Kak Kak's the national anthems are suitable not fitting not the other garbage.

I was a 9yr old immigrant in SA. I was an expatriate in the land of my birth and refugee/immigrant in France before we settled in South Africa. After 5 years, we were granted citizenship and it is my heart's national identity. I often watch the NZ / AB hakka and wish we could show our Zulu heritage wardance. I love watching our lads running onto the pitch to Johnny Clegg 's Impi. I've often wanted to bring this suggestion to the attention of the rugby powers that be ... but then I realise that Zulu is only one of our many South African tribes and, like our national anthem, our dance would have to be multi cultural and multi tribal. It's a nice pipe dream, but... Even if we could put together a war dance / war cry, representing SA, it would not be a historic war dance / war cry, so would not make much historical sense. Imagine though... If all the regional teams were to do a local tribal dance before each Currie Cup match? That would add a new dimension.

How dare they even try that. It would have never held traction, that's why most older south Africans are hardened all black supporters. Most non white south Africans rooted against our rugby. They were only supported by "whites" and brainwashed non white citizens.
