This gives me the chills watching it. My grandmother worked there as a nurse and ran it for a while when it was a retired doctors home. I spent a lot of time there in the 70s. I remember the winding stairs up to the second floor where my grandmother had her room. I remember the giant kitchen that fed everyone that lived in the east and west wings. My family and I still have some of the antiques that were sold when it closed down as the doctors home. Lots of memories.

My time in Boot was Jan 1966. The CC was a disaster. He thought it was his job to embarrass and humiliate the recruits as much as possible. He promist me Recuit Commander but gave me nothing except to clean dirty pans in the galley. After Boot of 13 weeks, I went on to work in three Admiral Commands. I had a lot of fun in the Navy after my miserable experience with that awful CC, who was a Ist Class ship's plumber. I would like to forget him.

Maybe 3 miles in. I was traveling solo and there were no reception there, so I was being cautious. You noticed the small sand storms? There were a lot of that going on that day.
I did boot camp there in 1981. Company 066. BNC Warner, company commander. FM. Floors like glass. Brass polished to mirror finish. Kills me to see this in such sad shape. 😢

Could a Toyota corolla get there? I tried to find the dirt road few days ago and came across a couple bumps and I chickened out and turned around. Is it the first dirt road you came to? The one I took has a mile marker but yours was unmarked? Another blogger said he took the third road he saw as its more direct
@@MK-qr8uw I wouldn’t recommend it. Beo if you get stuck you might not see anyone pass by for 6-8 hours. I was in the area fir 4-5 hours and didn’t see anyone.
I lived in those barracks March of '88, I think we were some of the last recruits utilizing those barracks. I didn't see any of the huge cement tables in the video, were they still there?

I just learned seven of these wooden hangars still exist: Moffett Field (2), Tustin, California (2), Tillamook, Oregon (1), Lakehurst, New Jersey (2). Moffett Field has a museum there, so they might allow public access to some of the hangars there.
I can still see it as it was when I was there. 1988 Co. 066. I went from being a 17 year old kid to a 17 year old man in those hallowed barracks... PS - Thank you for sharing.
@@khuuphotos It's pretty cool. I have photos of our trips. Should try to find them. I do remember a lecture on the fact they have their own weather systems inside. That's how large they are. I really think they should be preserved the roof's properly repaired. There is so so much that can be done with them. Imagine all he festivals, conferences, concerts, and even artist studios. Amazing spaces.
@@harrisfogel6992 Yeah, a concert in there would be amazing. Roller derby or even ice skate rink LOL. They do have a wine festival and a 5K/half marathon run once a year. I will sign up next time just so I can walk around hahaha
I don't know how many thousands of times I have seen those structures those hangers I'm 72 now and I never knew they are wooden structures. As a lifetime carpenter that's amazing to me.
