Our uncle, PFC Jessie C. Price, was in Lt. Barron's platoon when they were killed in action on the 17th of August. I found this video fascinating, as it's the only original camera footage we know of showing the actual village where Lt. Barron, our Uncle J.C. and their brothers-in-arms paid the ultimate sacrifice for the liberation of Lougé-sur-Maire. A huge thank you to whoever found and posted this video!
My grandfather was in the 508 red devils paratroopers regiment . My father still has his uniform and parachute as well as pictures on base. Didn't have much time with him as a child but always was inspired by him

I found this video because my grandmother was a nurse in the 50th during DDay and the Battle of the Bulge. I was hoping to see her in the film but didn't. She never talked about it. She was also never asked to march in a parade, or be represented in any way as a veteran. That honor was reserved for the fighting men only. Luckily that has changed. We lost her at 99 years old a few years ago.
My grandpa was part of the 4th infantry division but refused to ever tell me where he had been or anything still trying to piece everything together he passed when i was 19 im 35 now he was a great man and i miss him.
My Dad was born and grew up in Matching Green, Essex where the 834th Engineer Aviation Battalion built an Aerodrome. As a 12 year old lad he got to know many of the American servicemen that were stationed there during the Second World War. He has often told tales of how kind the servicemen were to all the villagers, especially the youngsters ! and how they would keep them supplied with candy and gum and also invite them to the airfield and mess hut for something to eat and later watch movies. Names my dad remembers are Bob McGowen from Pennsylvania, John Brown from Brooklyn, Len Fields and also Wilbur (Whit) Whitford from Texas (who would often visit my Grandad and Nan for Sunday lunch). To name but a few. My dad is almost 94 now and still going strong! He is looking for a book called 'Thus We Served' which is a history of the 834th Engineer Aviation Battalion.
