they do not require that much grooming. Just shave them down in the spring as they will matt if you get a real winter. Keep eyes and rear end clear. If you want them to swim, keep the coat shorter as the excessive full coat makes it difficult to swim.
Thank you for posting the video! The video looks like some of my friends homes in Italy. I would like to mention, although they don't shed, they do blow their fur out once a year usually around their birthday give or take a month or two, so they just need to be brushed to keep it from getting everywhere., it will come out in chunks, no fear just brush it out and either spin it and make yarn to knit a hat or scarf or let the birds use it for their nest or make a pillow, or throw it away. As they age, they don't blow out much, the fur just gets longer and thicker. In America, we register them with UKC and AKC FSS, they are always micro-chipped, and parents are always DNA tested for health and all CLEAR. Many puppies now DNA tested with AKC also for parental since some are being bred dual sires, so they don't have to have so many litters. The other thing is they do not have dander, this is what people are allergic to. Their soft fur can tickle your nose so you might sneeze but that doesn't mean you are allergic. They need to be loved by everyone in the family, they need to know they are accepted with everyone or they will shy away for those who ignore them or mean to them. I raise Volpino’s in America, and they are the sweetest, most loving loyal breeds you can find, extremely intelligent, loves to run and play, they can do all the tricks, agility anything for a treat. Mine do not bark unless there is something to bark about, they are watch dogs and can hear things before you do. If you live in an apartment they hear the person next door from thin walls, they will bark at them. They might bark as you walk out the door and greet you with barking when you come home. Otherwise, mine are very quiet. We DNA test for health and the longest lived is 17 years that were one of mine but most live to be 14 to 16. Whenever I'm sitting in my chair, there is always one or two on my lap, cuddling. As our older Volpino’s are dying from old age, it's keeping the numbers down in America, same in Italy. Only 35 were born in America as of Sept. 2024 but our club members expect 3-4 more litters by the end of the year average 4 per litter. So worldwide I would say only 5,000 probably exist. To find out more, this is the Volpino Italiano Club of America website, volpinoclubofamerica.com If you are blessed enough to own a Volpino you are part of their history and you have something very special so, "Love Um Lots". ~Terralea
Bred to hunt wolves 😅. I don't even think an Irish wolf hound would tackle a feckin wolf 😅. I could be wrong, but I have personally never heard of wolves in Ireland.. you'll be more likely to see a snake 🐍 😅.
"Bad guarddog" that's a pro imo. Means low aggression. Con should include their need for exercise, these are not the dogs you own if you plan to give your dog only the minimal exercise US owners typically give their dogs.
WPG‘s are outstanding dogs and even better companions. Mine is with me 24 hours a day seven days a week I constantly get people asking me. What breed is it every day. This video is about 85% accurate. I would say don’t get a WPG unless you plan to spend the entire day with this dog. They really do not do well when left alone. This is when the barking and destructive behavior occurs. Otherwise, they are the sweetest smartest and most well-behaved of all gun dogs. If you just want the look and can’t spend your entire day and night with your dog then it would be better to consider a wire haired Pointer. They looked very similar, but have completely different personalities. The pointers can be left alone and often or Captain kennels. If you attempted to kennel a Griffon, the dog would be miserable and the owner would be too. There’s a reason there’s only a few thousand Griffon in the United States. I come from Alaska where the Griffon is very popular because of the outdoor lifestyle and having to have an animal with you all the time for protection. WPG’s are my favorite dogs love them.
I've mixed pat n Jack he little gentleman who mostly does everything I say he 3 and the best behaved dog I've ever known I have many dog's n cat's at same time and do it all again if I had time left ❤
Yes, English Setters have a natural tendency to wander or roam. They are energetic dogs with a strong hunting instinct, which can lead them to explore their surroundings if left unsupervised. Their high prey drive makes them likely to follow interesting scents or sights, so it's important to keep them in a securely fenced area or on a leash during walks to prevent them from wandering off. Proper training and regular exercise can help manage this tendency.
A friend has a female Raven Shepperd with a white patch on the chest. She is such a gentle soul, loves to cuddle and has the most beautiful eyes. She is all the time very quiet and calm, but if something new happens or somebody comes she is the first to check it out. I love her very much!
"The Pros and Cons" you suggest are assuming that you are not an Inuit - using it as a working dog - and using it more for just a companion dog, a show dog or a pet. There's a big difference there.
Our boy is extremely loyal and protective. He's now 9 and still so energetic and playful. The word BALL can only be spoken if you have a spare 20mins! 💖
if baby borns to the family, im sure that they are very much adjusted to the situations and when child grows with dogs they know how to behave. plenty of those around
Sometimes my affen is very stubborn, I need lots of patience. Not that good around kids, tends to play rough with them. Needs brushing to prevent matting especially under the mouth. Mine needs a hair cut every 3-4 months. Antics all day. Barking not bad, when he wants attention or food.
this breed is something different all together. My family had dogs since forever, of all shapes and sizes. Yet this one was the only one who simply refused to bond with any newcomer or any other animal except for us. We hand someone who rented two rooms on our property, and no matter how much time he tried spending with the dog, it never worked out. The tenant would try to feed him every day, yet the dog refused the food. It would only eat when the tenant left. The dog was always extremely aggressive towards him and we had to keep the animal locked up while the tenant was around. After about two years of daily interaction, we barely got the dog to stop charging at him and just stand still (he would still not take food though). For the first six months, it was charging and ignoring all orders, foaming at the mouth. Considering it's a seriously big dog, you can't just keep him at bay, it does what it wants to. It's NOT a dog for everyone, be extra careful if you plan to get one.
@@evaeriksson9950 we didn't know it would be like that. We took it in as a pup. We had other big dogs before that, and we figured it would fine; we had a large property, plenty of food, love and time. It was apparent we took in more of a bear than a dog pretty early on, but what were we supposed to do? When it's part of the family, you learn to live with it (she was affectionate towards us in her own way, but was impossible to control when it came to strangers)
mine playing to hard with my 3 year old draging cloth biting shoes not good with kids lol this is just sale thing they good with kids, but for puppys there are better dogs out there that handle kids better
I cannot find much info on this breed, this video was super helpful! I have a baby RRS, her origins are unknown besides her breed. She is quite literally the spitting image of this video. Thank you so much for
The Continental Bulldog, also known as the "Conti," is a breed that was developed by crossing the English Bulldog with other breeds to create a healthier and more athletic dog. The primary breed used in its development is the English Bulldog, but to achieve the desired characteristics, breeders introduced other breeds such as the Olde English Bulldogge and various other bulldog-type breeds. The goal was to maintain the classic bulldog look while improving the breed's overall health, reducing breathing issues, and enhancing agility.
I rescued my Posavac off the streets. The POS family that had her got evicted & ABANDONED her. She was on the streets for 2 months in these HOT Texas summer temps before my neighbor tagged me in a post.. I busted out "I'll be there in 5 minutes" That was 4 years ago & Ms. Hope Jenkins is ALWAYS close to me.
