This is where I share my love of music with the world. My music can be described as "Rock Music" with a lean towards Heavy Metal - in the old days we called it "Hard Rock". While I am capable of adequate singing, my favorite music - to listen to AND create - is Instrumental Rock. In addition to the videos for my music, I'm also making some short videos that describe the creative process I go through in developing these songs. I sincerely hope you enjoy it!

I got one of these for a GREAT deal.. I got it home and I realized it may not be my cup of tea. I think the sound is very limited- I think only the neck pickup sounds good and it just doesn’t sound all that good with what I do. It’s NOT like an acoustic 12 string, and it will not give you a Byrds type sound like a Ric 12 string. You can’t really dig in and play like Melissa Etheridge. It will sound like mush. I find that you gotta pick lightly.. use light picks. The light strings can easily be drowned out if your are rocking out.. Thought the music I have written on 12 string could transfer to a band format easily, but it kind of is not working out like I thought. Might be selling mine.
@keithavarney170
@keithavarney170 15 дней назад
I agree that it sounds nothing like an acoustic and that it lacks that "jangly" sparkle you'd get from something like a Ric. It has a unique sound. And I'm using the neck pickup almost exclusively, particularly for live stuff. Wonder if changing out the bridge pickup would make much of a difference? I see it as a niche guitar and I've found it to be a good tool for writing and recording. For the price I still think it's good; of course it's $100 off now at Fender - I paid full price 🤣. I'd be curious to know what you end up getting if you sell yours. Thanks for the comment!

Firstly, I'd just like to say that you play beautifully and your Lynch like tone is divine! I'm still shocked by how awesome this so called cheap lil "beginner's guitar" is. I bought the SSS HT version in Torino Red for a joke. Didn't need any fret work and the nut was slotted perfectly. It has quite a chunky C neck too. I tweaked the truss rod, lowered the action and got it playing with .60./40 action with no fret buzz or dead notes anywhere. The hardware works perfectly and I still can't find a single thing to complain about. It's actually so much fun to play and it's tonally perfect for what I do, it's left me wondering why I'd spent thousands on higher end guitars. I can fly around on this Squier model effortlessly. It really does live up to the hype

Thanks so much! Yeah, I have this one and the Sonic P-Bass; just really impressed with the quality coming from overseas these days. I'm sure that the computerization and automation of the production process has improved quality considerably, but I'm also convinced that guitar companies (Fender/Squier in particular) are also investing in training their employees and providing higher quality control. It's as if they've discovered that they can create quality products at very reasonable prices. Who knew?!?! 🤣🤘🎸

I bought one just like yours and have been very happy with it. I traded in my Squier HSS Bullet Strat because I couldn't use the SS pickups on our church platform without them picking up a lot of noise. @@peadookie Okay… been searching around the web and I can’t find anything that says that necks (Fender in particular) were tinted in the 70s. I found lots of info about different types of finishes causing the natural wood finish to age faster. Experienced this myself with a 1994 P-Bass that has aged… gracefully. If the necks were “in fact” tinted in the 70s, I’m going to need some reference to back that up with. I’ll be the first to raise my hand up and say “that’s the way it was” if I see some evidence. Unfortunately, everything I see is on forums, where people pretty much say whatever they want. Fender also has nothing to say on historical tinting in this article: www.fender.com/articles/behind-the-scenes/the-science-and-style-of-finishes Here are a few other links I found on the subject. For those looking for a quality 12 string without the prohibitive price tag, I suggest investigating the Reverend Airwave 12. It's a semi hollow Korina body design, engineered from the "blueprint" to be a 12 string. it's more of a mid priced model but it needs NOTHING. Individual intonation and locking tuners - STANDARD.

can I oil the fretboard like a rosewood? or is it shellacked over
@keithavarney170
@keithavarney170 Месяц назад
That is a very good question and I don't have a solid answer for you. Consensus on forums is mixed (surprise!). The specs on Charvel's site simply list the fretboard as "Carmelized Maple" and it does not feel like it has any finish - the back of the neck does have a light urethane rub. I have not oiled mine at this point; I generally don't oil maple fretboards but this is my first carmelized/roasted neck. I would check directly with Charvel/Fender on this one - might do that myself! Sorry I didn't have a confident answer for you. I will let you know if I hear back from them. Thanks!

FYI those are not P90's they are Jazzmaster pickups ( but the stock bridge being much hotter than a traditional JM pup). P90's and JM pickups are very different in sound and design. You can get JM sized P90's though if that is what you are after and it would be a much rounder aggressive tone than the stock JM pups. It is a common misconception by the way.

@keithavarney170 Месяц назад

@Klorpus 15 дней назад
@@keithavarney170 These guitars have kind of hybrid pickups. The coils are Jazzmaster sized (very wide across, but very thin top-to-bottom). They have magnets underneath the coils rather than the original magnetic polepieces the Fender single coil designs use. They're rather hot. Additionally, the pickups have foam underneath to raise them rather than springs like the original Fender units use. To give better clarity and balance with the bridge pickup, pull it out and trim the foam down so you can lower it further, or remove the foam entirely and put Jazzmaster pickup springs in. Some of the serious gear tweakers are swapping in aftermarket 1960s-spec Jazzmaster replacement pickups.

Yes... but I would recommend, for a beginner, to go to a local music store and try out some guitars before buying. The problem with Harley Bentons, in the US at least, is that they have to be ordered from Europe and the shipping cost is a fair percent of the total cost of the instrument. You can find a $200 Squier at most music stores in the US and they are GREAT instruments for beginners. If you are in Europe, then this would definitely be a good guitar for a beginner.

Guitar was ready to play from unboxing, just tune the strings and go. Great fretwork, no optical mistakes or bumps, neck is pretty good, actually amazing for this price (i got this guitar from thomann for 169 € , ca. 180 $) if i read comments on "cheap" guitar reviews, it seems that people expect way more from cheap guitar as from fender or gibson, and yet some guitars are truly overprized , you can get a really bad Fender Player for almost 1000 bucks, and nobody is talking about that. but same people are screaming when they get untuned Squier...

Sure, I can see where money has been saved, but I have no problem at all with build quality or the sound - the pickups are ceramic but remarkably aggressive and responsive - which has been much improved by a good set of flats. Perhaps you should revisit this review with a different example ?
