They are both good, I think Shoshana singing is more effortless than Idina especially the high notes. A lot of the songs were originated by Idina so it's a little unfair to compare these too great singers.
Idina, just because she has the emotional range in her voice. Shoshana has MAD technique and vocal control that Idina doesn't however. Idina is the actress that sings, and Shoshana is the singer who acts, that's how I see the two of them as Elphaba honestly, and also listening to this, it's also my opinion for each of their deliveries.
These types of videos are not helpful or fair. Taking clips out of context, video editing under different circumstances with different orchestras are not fair to anybody. Why not just post videos separately and say there are two great artists. I don't know why there is thus drive to pit one artist against another.
I prefer Shoshana. Listen to her in She Used to Be Mine. Incredible. The sound quality of the Idina clips is much better than the Shoshana clips in these. At least the first half. Not really an apples to apples comparison. Also, Shoshana is 10 years younger and was Idina's under study in Wicked before taking the role for a year after Idina finished. Her voice has really improved since that time so those Wicked clips aren't really comparable. I thought she was better on the Don't Rain on My Parade and other songs where their experience level is more comparable.
People who sing know that a mixed C6 is more technically challenging than a head voice C6. And it’s supposed to sound piercing and shrill. The original SOL is more mellow, so I think the head voice C6 fits. Idina’s live version is a bit more upbeat and energetic, so the mixed C6 fits too. Regardless, it’s very impressive, especially considering her voice type!

The one duet I’d love to get is Idina and Shoshana. The perceived feud these fans created is extremely toxic. I love both of them I just wish fans would stop making it seem like there’s some beef.
I have a feeling it's the end of the "love" whereas she does "measure your life in love Aaaah" but I still think it's pretty impressive. I know next to nothing about she vocals but I find it odd that she struggled with the high f in defying gravity and is then able to do that
She's just belting, over the years she's gained much better technique, she's mixed a c6 , that's amazing , especially when most people regard her as a mezzo.
Her natural voice is so beautiful when she isn't belting. It may be a sound that she's known for, but it's the weakest part of her arsenal and the most inconsistent.
Wow! Jessie J is my all time favorite. I had the chance to see shoshana last night and it was incredible. The way they shape there vowels and use there voice is pretty similar. The tone is very different. Jessie has something about her that is almost out of body in person. If you ever get the chance to see either live DO IT! Both of them I saw at sub 200 person venue too which made it even more incredible. Both are world class vocalists. Brilliant.
