@@user-io6pj8bz8h Great Big Sea was an amazing band, and people do not "not want to acknowledge that this band exists". They are quite well known in Canada, and within the Irish/Newfoundland music genre, globally. They've played with the Chieftains, which is a big thing if you know Irish music. Alan Doyle (the lead singer) has recorded with Russell Crowe and was in the Robinhood movie with him.
I love your band you do good job on the night patty Murphy died my favourite song thank you for my song you do wonderful job buddy kept old good work buddy
Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget Some of the boys got loaded drunk, and they ain't got sober yet; As long as a bottle was passed around every man was feelin' gay O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play [Chorus] That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy That's how they showed their honour and their pride; They said it was a sin and shame and they winked at one another And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died As Mrs. Murphy sat in the corner pouring out her grief Kelly and his gang came tearing down the street They went into an empty room and a bottle of whiskey stole They put the bottle with the corpse to keep that whiskey cold [Chorus] About two o'clock in the morning after empty'ing the jug Doyle rolls up the ice box lid to see poor Paddy's mug We stopped the clock so Mrs. Murphy couldn't tell the time And at a quarter after two we argued it was nine [Chorus] They stopped the hearse on George Street outside Sundance Saloon They all went in at half past eight and staggered out at noon They went up to the graveyard, so holy and sublime Found out when they got there, they'd left the corpse behind! [Chorus] Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget Some of the boys got loaded drunk and they ain't been sober yet; As long as a bottle was passed around every man was feelin' gay O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play [Chorus]
Saw this wonderful band twice, once in Ottawa in nosebleed seats but again at Higher Ground in Winooski, Vermont where, with beer in hand and with best friends, in the front row danced my ARSS off all night! Lead singer spittle spray on face was just one of those hazards I had to endure. The beer helped!
Seanie ~ Nailed It 💞 SO BEAUTIFULLY !!! I have Scottish blood rattling in my veins from my ancestors... and have heard this song my WHOLE life. BUT, I have never REALLY heard it or had it speak to MY soul... Until you put YOUR soul into singing it with such love and raw voice that stuck your hand directly into my heart. ❤! Luv Ya Sean : )
The majority of Canadians are not Irish descended. About half the population of Newfoundland is Irish, though. Nova Scotia has a fair smattering of Irish, though it is largely Scottish.
@@alexkilgour1328 half irish, the rest scottish, english etc. Proud Haligonian, saw Great Big Sea at the lower Deck! And at the concert on the hill ! Love these guys !: miss live concerts !
Thanks for posting a vid of a live performance. I miss the large assortment that WMG had pulled when they created the professional videos - the concert recordings convey so much more of who and what GBS are!
