Des Foley is an AM racing driver from Ireland. After many years of sim racing and finishing a runner up in the Nissan GT Academy in 2012, Des got behind the wheel for his first full season in 2015, winning the Irish Formula Vee Finol Star of Tomorrow Championship. Other highlights from the year include competing in two rounds of the Monoposto Championship at Oulton Park and making the ROC Factor shootout at the Race of Champions at the Olympic Stadium in London.
Love this place, it's seriously one of the best , if not the best places to go karting, the track makes it so easy to pass so you are not stuck behind slower people lap after lap, this is my go to place, I'm actually going this Saturday for my son's birthday,
Great video! Have been thinking of doing a similar series here in the U.S. about the Summer Shootout. Also, try a bigger steering wheel! It can really help on corner entry, and oversteer correction. I raced bandoleros before moving to legends and stuck with my smaller wheel until some of the other drivers told me to try a bigger wheel. Made a huge difference, felt like I was driving a different car.
I saw that you sim race with iracing. What Iracing car most resembles the Formula Vee. I race Formula Vee in the US and am looking to work on some new tracks for 2017.
Does that car not have a brake pedal on the left side of the steering shaft for left foot braking? All the legends I have seen with factory pedal setups have 2 brake pedals......
Sorry to hear that it might be your last for awhile Des :(! Like you I'm trying to make sure I can race continually based on finances so keep holding it until that point! Hope to see you racing again soon Des!
Stick with it Des! It's been really great watching your trials and sucesses getting into this series -- while this weekend must have been very tough, you've clearly been building confidence. The scraps throughout this race were incredible and you were holding your own. IMO, the incident was not your fault -- the other driver clearly didn't give you room on the inside. At the point it happened you were committed and he left you nowhere to go, so 50/50 is generous to him. That said, I think it's exactly right to call it a racing incident and not try to apportion blame. I also have to say that I really appreciate the work you put into your videos, especially the couple like this that you've cut together with the track cameras and commentary. Do what you have to do to keep yourself in a good position financially, but I think you've shown great promise as a racing driver and as a RU-vidr!
I hope it isn't the last video you upload for some time as I've just discovered the great YT work you're doing and hope it long continues..... Some rich sponsor type send him the monies to continue please :)
Wow, only got around to watch the video now but what an amazing race! And that off-road at lap two was crazy! Great car control throughout the whole race, while you still don't seem to have the confidence of the "veterans" it looks like you're quickly getting there! Seeing those oversteer on videos is a thing, catching them in real life is another haha, and considering you were sideways practically the whole race it really is an impressive show of skill! Those cars really look super-fun to drive, I've seen one drive the other day and he was lapping as fast as the 2-11 I was driving...crazy stuff! And about that, the car looked much smaller in real life compared to the video; is it possible that there are two types of them maybe?
+Gabriele Gonzales No the cars are 5/8 scale so really small when you sit in. Well done on the test btw, sorry I never got back to you, read about it when I was on the go and forgot to get back to you. Sounds like you had a great time and the pics look great - hopefully you can get out in something again real soon!
+noog Of course, lots of club and amateur racing is much more fun to watch, but we get a couple of good F1 races per year that make it worth tuning in for every week :P
+Thomas Allen sorry someone else was signed in on my laptop and replied on that account. Yeah Paul in the car ahead is my team mate and he was just waving to say lets chase the guys ahead and not fight each other. The contact is fine. We bump draft in these cars because two cars together are faster than one thanks to the slipstream effect
Oh awesome! I was hoping for you to race these cars! Great driving as always, shame for that spin! I bet you could have stayed together with the two guys on top if it weren't for that. But aye this car is such a handful and considering it was your first race I wouldn't say this is a bad result at all :) also, props on the camera placement, it is great as you can see your feet as well as the "top part". By the way Des, do you mind if I write you a PM on reddit(idk how active you are on there), I wanted to ask you a couple of things :)
+Richard Basford Thanks Richard, glad you enjoyed it - a little bit disappointed I didn't get more battles like it throughout the weekend but that's racing. Ready to do a lot better at the next Round!
+True Racer Yeah I was lucky I didn't get collected as well. Thing is with these sprint races, if you fall out of touch with the leaders you can forget about it - 8 mins isn't very long to make up ground, especially when I don't quite have the pace of those guys yet.
+f1images cheers man, thanks for watching. Ah it was ok, still a lot to learn in terms of not overdriving the car. It's very different to single seater.
+Gmaneire Thanks glad you like it! I edit in Final Cut Pro X - The fancy shots were captured on a Canon 5d mk3 with 16-35mm and 50mm lenses. Onboard was shot with GoPro.
+Gabriele Gonzales Lol, it was so much fun Gabriele. Highly recommend it, maybe not to first time drivers but definitely if you have some experience and want to be constantly sideways for the weekend :P
+f1images yeah very strong. But it's the type of car that rewards those who have most experience with it. You don't walk into a series and beat the guys at it 5 years on your first day! I'm tempted to do a few more rounds later in the year! Hopefully the grid expands a bit as well.
+f1images Yeah wtf, that was something completely unexpected! I think I was about to say 'that is hilarious' and then realised I was recording and said 'terrible' lol
