I just found your channel and you nailed it! I was on the ride yesterday. When I was a kid they had the around the world theme and as lame as it was it made sense. Now it is just a nice relaxing ride that lets you focus on how amazing the engineering of the whole ride is for the time it was built. I always ride it for that aspect but I never rode it when it had the Garfield theme because it just irritated me and I couldn't wait to get out. I was joking on my ride yesterday that it's like politics these days; we got rid of the orange man and got something tame but lame as a replacement....LOL!
It was kind of like a roller coaster, in a glow bowling alley. The story behind it sounds like satan’s incorrect interpretation of “vicarious” (tool music video)…. When all the damned are rushing for safety at the moment it returns to earth & everything dies…. There is no space pods/rocket ships. They are running to the bunkers they built with money that wasn’t theirs 1000 years prior. But what do I know. It’s not how I would handle them but our benevolent, kind, fair & just creator only knows how to handle interdimensional nuclear ☢️ (bombs that are also waste) from a terrible place called hell which is NOT THIS PLANET so they need to leave now. Also I need to know what my test results were for pregnancy when I got to the Oakland County Jail in 2012 (July) & Brighton Hospital (August 2012).
Very well done. You're right, finding images of the Pippin is virtually impossible, but it did most certainly have more than a thing or two in common with Jack Rabbit. Speaking of, the year they took the tunnel off of the Thunderbolt, they added a tunnel back onto the Jack Rabbit. Over the past decade, I want to say that the Thunderbolt has been overshadowed by a renewed interest in Jack Rabbit. Much of that clout is definitely deserved, since that double dip is no joke. They're both amazing coasters though. All three of the classic woodys are.
Good video! On the topic of black light, the issue isn't even necessarily the usage of black light. Many classic dark rides did/do this. (Le Cachot and Whacky Shack are both examples here.) The issue is that, just like regular lighting in older and cheaper dark rides, black light must be used SPARINGLY to only show you what you NEED to see that's interesting to the ride, not the cheap backgrounds. I don't know how they thought keeping the setup meant for fully lit, 3-D chromadepth scenes on Garfield's Nightmare was going to work for emulating classic dark ride lighting.
For years before it was torn down it was just a dark ride. Like literally dark, other than the lift ,with none of the effects. I rode it in the early 90s with the audio and projectors and I loved it.
I absolutely loved Disaster Transport as a kid. It was the only air conditioned coaster and the lines were always super short. But there is quite a bit of lore in this coaster which I always enjoyed. Also the "Welcome to Alaska" was your shuttle accidentally crashing into Alaska and was a nod to the previous ride, but was not where you were supposed to go.
Thanks for posting this. I grew up less than an hour away and absolutely adored this ride. Had season passes and it wasn't uncommon to go 3+ days a week. My son was even able to ride this and loved it and my stories about all of the effects, ques, animatronics, and video screens that USED to work lol. I was born in 86 and rode the piss out of this ride. There's some photos on Reddit and more info on it too. I would love to see another video on this as well as maybe the Bernstein Bears attraction with the spooky hill and the tree slide? (I SPELLED IT CORRECTLY LOL) Or the Pirate Ride that used to be earthquake? Just a few thoughts! Thanks again and I definitely subscribed!!
Akron is Ak-Rin. That's how it's pronounced. Home of Lebron James, Goodyear and Firestone and Bridgestone Tires, And Alcoholics Anonymous. I was born here n live here lol
Awesome footage and great video. The "repair bay" room had parts to the shuttle moving above you, not luggage. The "reject" light was on the parts scanner as they moved in front of the sensor in the cages giving the impression that all the parts used for the shuttles had been rejected.
I'm not the uploaded but as a frequent kennywood visitor I'd say around 2008? It's been so long, none of the queue line stuff that helped build a story is there anymore :(
Great video! I'm curious about the timing of the Top Ten list. You mentioned 1974 but Rebel Yell/Racer 75 wouldn't have been open yet, unless they got a sneak preview somehow.
cool video. the black light rides feel so cheap compared to the classic dark rides. i remember my first time riding garfield’s nightmare thinking what did they do??
