I'd like to get my local library involved in this program, if they're not already. If I'm considering purchasing a library telescope to donate, where can I look at the scope & its accessories? Is a collimation tool kit included? What is the purchase price of the scope package? I can easily find lots of online info that mostly focuses on people talking about how the program works, but so far I haven't found a whole lot if info that explains where to get the scope. I watch Ed Ting a lot, & he shows the scope & talks about the program but I'm still uncertain as to a few key answers in terms of the accessories & the price & any ordering info. I'm particularly curious if the package incudes a carrying case. I feel a case would be a smart investment, given that by the nature of the program these scopes will spend a higher-than-usual amount of their lives being transported, and often in the hands of beginners who aren't yet aware of how easily things can be damaged on delicate instruments such as these.
You seem to only recognise the Orion/Celestron made 4.5 inch scopes. We in Tallahassee Fl. have chosen to use the 'Sky one' 5" scope 'Astronomers without Borders. We now have 20 scopes in the city system. I personally believe this is a better instrument . Plus they are $199 delivered to your door with finder and two oculars. I am sure others have used this scope. .
