The Tennessee Frugal Craftsman channel follows the journey of one man and his family as they prepare and build their dream home in eastern Tennessee. As a former fulltime licensed carpenter, the host, Brian Peterson, documents how he and his family undertake this excursion with the intention of being as frugal with their money as possible. Peterson offers construction and life tips on how he and his family are making this dream a reality.
Great video! I have enjoyed watching your milling videos. I just finished a DIY trailer for my HM122. My track is assembled and I’m just about done with the mill head. Hopefully, I can start sawing within the week. I’m having withdrawals…..I haven’t milled anything in over a year since I sold my old mill. Here is a link to my channel if you would like to see the trailer build video. Thanks, youtube.com/@haggetthill?si=oc9FeZFCfXTK2fLW
Howdy Brother- I understand what it is to work with dry oak. Deck framing looks great. I know you will be happy when you get it completely covered. Take care and God bless
Check your bearings. Mine only has 45 hours so it was the last thing I would think of. Sure enough the rear drive side wheel bearing was completely seized. Required pulling wheel and bearing and replacing. Newer models seem to be of questionable quality. Other videos ran into hearing issues at the 250 hour plus mark. Pretty shitty I only got 45 hours out of it.
You have a great helper! Very nicely explained, I thin I can do it my self now, just have to do the calculations right… Wish I hade a helper though. Thanks for taking the time to film this. 💞
Howdy Brother- everything is looking so good! I’m paying over $40 a gallon for boiled linseed oil. You may be able to get it cheaper there. So sad what has happened because of the hurricane. Take care and God’s blessings to y’all
good video and job really looks good.on my mill dawn and washer fluid ate holes in tank. so i made a tank out of pvc. i got last blades from southeastern metals they are sharp and a lot cheaper with free shipping. they cut better than woodland mills ones. take care, be safe and well.
@@thetennesseefrugalcraftsma7383 Just 2 sharpenings per blade? so 3 uses total? When you say break, do you mean literally snap? or just losing their effectiveness?
1 7/8 x 4 is what the saw guide makes it. I do measure sometimes but as long as it is between 1 13/16 and 2" I am good for thickness because I plane my lumber to size.
@@thetennesseefrugalcraftsma7383 Impressive! You only lose very little material in the process. Follow-up question: I heard tips of plaining down to 1.5", so that the beams are compatible with commonly available brackets. Is that not the case?
@@eitantal726 True about hangers and the like. I used a lot of ledgers instead and tried to avoid needing hangers. Where I needed them I used timber connectors.
Howdy Brother- that would be tedious work for me to try to do. I’m certainly not a brick layer either. I appreciate how you are always looking ahead to make the next phase easier. Hope your weekend is going well. God bless
good video and job. holes came in my tank from dawn and washer fluid i made a pvc tank. i got last blades from southeastern metals they are sharper and cheaper than woodland mills and i got a whole box and shipping was free. take care, be safe and well.
Hey, I found a house that the foundation walls of the basement are moisturizing. According to my uncle is lack of tar coating. He recommended to have a machine excavator excavate the dirt out and then add the coating and fix some of the pipings. Is this recommendable or you recommend something else? Thanks
Everything is looking great. I know it’s tough when you got a full-time job and then you’re doing this too, but your turn out a wonderful home. I’ve been watching you since you very began started on the property and when you first started cleaning off and cutting the lumber for your house and all the way up till now things are looking great. Keep up the good work. We’re still sitting in the background watching what you’re doing. I don’t miss the episode of your videos, even if I don’t respond every time.
Howdy Brother- you’re not going to have any wasted space. I like how you bring everything together so clean. Lots of people could certainly learn from you. Hope all is well. God bless
How long have you been in the trade??? Also, it would be nice once you have all the areas cleaned up, to give us a little tour of the whole house. Awesome job, and I'm sure the family is excited.
I was a full-time carpenter for about 20 years. Now it is secondary to my day job. I did sweep out the attic and second floor but the first floor has a lot of material scattered around.

Howdy Brother- it’s really interesting to see how other carpenters approach different phases of the framing. I like the idea of using a chalk line on your rafters. Nice job with everything you’ve done. Hope you have a great weekend. God bless
Howdy Brother- I know it’s part of the process, but it’s almost a shame to cover up your framing job. Doing smaller framing projects like the knee wall is enjoyable. Everything looks so nice. Take care and God’s blessings to y’all
Does the climate where you live, dictate insulation of the roofs and exterior walls? and do you mind telling us what coarse/major/field of study you teach? TYFS, I feel as though watching you build a green house, signed me up for the longest start to finish video ever and loving it!
Yes, I will insulate everything because of the extreme heat in the summer and it does get below freezing for a period of time in the winter. I teach in the field of biblical studies. Glad you joined with the greenhouse, but it is still going to be a "long" video moving forward.
I was dreading installing shingles on a steep pitched garage roof project I have coming up. Your jacks are brilliant and will make my job go so quick. Thank you!!!
