The St. Paul Center is a nonprofit research and educational institute that promotes life-transforming Scripture study from the heart of the Church. The Center serves clergy and laity, students and scholars, with research and study tools.
Our goal is to be a teacher of teachers. We want to raise up a new generation of priests who are fluent in the Bible and lay people who are biblically literate. For us, this means more than helping people to know their way around the Bible. It means equipping them to enter into the heart of the living Word of God.
We read the Bible from the heart of the Church, in light of the Church’s Liturgy and living Tradition. In this way, we hope to help people experience the heart-to-heart encounter that Jesus’ disciples experienced on that first Easter night, when they knew Him in the breaking of the bread: "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us…while He opened to us the Scriptures?" (see Luke 24:13-37)
Serious and had a good laugh. Bless u all and Fr thank you eternally for taking on the job. God directed your higher up to you and you're doing great holy work.
I once saw a Messianic Jew/Rabbi discuss how in Egypt, the Israelite families were to "inspect" the lamb for for blemishes from the 10th-14th day of the month and declare it is a spotless lamb, worthy to be sacrificed (Ex 12: 3-6). The Rabbi then compared this "type" to Jesus' entry into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) and how he was "inspected" by the Sanhedrin, Herod and finally Pilate, who proclaimed "I find no fault with Him." That always stuck with me...
This has helped me greatly in my understanding of Christ and the mystery of his body and blood. Thank you for your work and may God bless you and your loved ones.
It's not "lineage" per se that qualifies a contender to claim Messiahship, but Royal Lineage. In 2 Kings 11:1-3 the daughters of the King were not threatened by Athaliah because only males are Royal Seed (therefore Mary is excluded). Jesus' father would have to be a direct descendant of David's to be "Son of David". Don't get me wrong, I believe Jesus is the Messiah, but the NT genealogies are bogus in making that determination. I believe what Peter believed in Acts 2:30, that Jesus is the fruit of David's loins (not from someone else - see Rom 1:3 in the Greek text).
As other comments have pointed out, you can't separate that line from the rest of it "for I have not yet ascended to the Father." I've even heard someone say it was because "his body wasn't done transitioning yet" I think that's a little far fetched - that's not necessarily what he's referring to by saying he hasn't yet ascended to the Father, the simplest explanation is just that, "do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father" means "we still have work to do. You go and start telling people, and l'll go institute confession and the great commission and I'll see you in heaven. That's where you'll get to "hold on" to me"
Why do even, Catholics, refer to it as the Assumption of Mary? Isn't assumption, to assume? The theme in common with dictionaries is: to think or accept that something is true but without having proof of it. So, when Catholics talk about Mary, remember this! Mariology desecrates the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The more they build up Mary, the more they put Jesus Christ down. She's in the grave, awaiting the resurrection of the dead at the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus Anointed at Bethany - Mary Magdalene …12 By pouring this perfume on Me, she has prepared My body for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached in all the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.” 14 Then one of the Twelve, the one called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests…Berean Standard Bible Matt 26: 13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. Matt 26: 13 King James Bible Mary Magdalene was the first one to see Jesus after He was resurrected. Mariology is Blasphemy and desecrates the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Or is it an Abomination or both? Jesus Christ said it would be Mary Magdalene that would be remembered when she anointed Him
No such thing as a born again Catholic and most Christians who think they are born again are not! If you cannot see the kingdom then you are not born again
I have a hard time believing a Catholic can be "born again". Jesus stated, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but through Me." And yet, Catholics go to a priest and confess, Catholics pray to Mary, who according to the Bible was "exalted above all women" because she was picked to deliver our Savior Jesus but that was the extent. And why do Catholics pray to the saints? Look, this sounds like Catholic bashing, please do not think so. Forgive me, I'm just being skeptical.
Wow!!!!❤ everything I learned about myself sitting in the presence of the Lord in adoration for a month, was basically summed up by you in this talk. So powerful so so powerful.
DND is not inviting the devil. is not evil. There’s nothing nefarious about it. Isn’t this priest supposed to have discernment and the Holy Ghost?? shouldn’t he know this? Disappointing.
Be back later… Thank you for this video. Just yesterday, walking past the COE, I thought it would be very nice to have a Catholic Church where I could go and do my talk to God… I haven’t been to Church for a very long time… and I miss it a lot.
As someone who experienced real big “T” trauma, I do have concerns about the overuse of the word “trauma”. Just as there is a big difference between a scraped knee compared to a broken leg, there are big differences between everyday emotional wounds that we all experience and big emotional traumas like physical abuse, parental abandonment, etc. We now use the word “trauma” for all of these things, and we often use the word “anxious” for normal nervousness that almost all of us have in certain situations like public speaking or a new job, etc. We’re also labeling kids and putting them on drugs at alarming rates. So while I agree that we shouldn’t try to hide from our wounds, we also should be careful to not pathologize the emotional equivalents of skinned knees. I like that Matt discussed that it’s not useful to expect everyone around us to change and that each person is able to take steps to work towards his/her own healing. I also liked what he said about forgiveness and purpose.
Amen, pay no attention to the deniers. Nothing pleases a non believer more than accepting false teachings that make them feel good about their bad behaviour
So Blessed, been thinking about this Parable, heard a still small voice telling me, "Well, who do you think is my neighbor?" My neighbor is the Houseless Community. Mahalo Pastor, got a Biblical Confirmation! Abba Father is So Good! ☝️🙏🤟✌🤙❤😎 May 06 2024
"Your suffering/wound is at the center of your life". I have C-PTSD from repeated childhood traumas and I relate to that all too well. I used to get severe panic attacks in public and eventually my whole life turned into just trying to avoid panic attacks/anxiety. If I stayed in my mask in my little shell, I didn't have the anxiety, but I didn't have joy either. I'd been wounded by every relationship had since birth, so I told myself "I'm an introvert" and I avoided any friendships even though deep down I wanted them. Eventually I had to look in the mirror and say this isn't living, you have got to heal, it's a non-negotiable. So basically my whole youth/early 20s was spent in trauma therapy, and church. Now I'm a mother (31 weeks pregnant) and I'm ramping up the healing work extra hard so I can be the healthiest mother for my daughter and the healthiest wife for my husband. It's hard, I didn't want to have to do any of this work, but it's not just about me. I'm a Catholic convert, and the thing I've learned most is God saves, carrying you, affirming, forgiving, invigorating, holding, healing, never-ending.
I really appreciate Dr Breuninget’s candour. It is something that I am realising as a counsellor - that we are made to be monstrances of love and that blocking this makes people go in directions that harm them and others. I am focusing on words from John at the moment, and made it my year to look up all the times love is mentioned in the Bible. I can fully agree withDr Breuninger’s views about needing to live in love every moment and serve God in denying ourselves.
