We are a happy group of people with a common interest in Silversea. So this is a positive, safe & respectful environment of helping one another to get the most possible enjoyment from Silversea cruising.
hi all, i am intending to make a silversea excursion cruise booking in the next few days, please contact me if you are a Venetian society member and wants to refer me to Silversea so that both of us gets a bonus 500 bucks credit.
Excursion tips. Don't forget to tip bus drivers, too. Tour guides, of course. Let your conscience be your guide. Best in local currency if you can manage it.
My wife and I are about to take our first cruise ever and I purposely sought out an all inclusive cruise line which happens to be Silversea. I paid a premium price not to be nickeled and dimed at every turn as I understand is to expected on many less expensive cruise lines. Is Silversea misleading customers?
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. My wife and I are in our early 60s and we will be taking our first cruise ever in June 2025 with Silversea. Unfortunately, we are not on Facebook so videos like yours are really helpful. We are very excited and also scared to death that we’re going to make a bad choice or miss something on this first in a lifetime adventure . We chose Silversea because of the all inclusive aspect and the smaller ships. My idea of a vacation does not include spending half my time standing in line or bumping into someone trying to make my way through a crowded buffet. Hopefully between now and our cruise time you may post some other helpful hints. Thanks again and wishing you safe and happy voyages.
If something is included then why pay again? Would you pay for a drink at the bar if you had an all inclusive package? Cruise companies moved away from tipping to include it in the fare to simplify the whole experience - I'm sorry but the US obsession with giving away money needs to stop - if enough people believe that an extra tip is expected then the cruise companies will start to move the included tips into general revenue and the whole cycle starts again.
Sounds like your butler does not have much working hours, so why even bother with a butler. Most of the time you can accomplish what a butler can do in less time than he or she can. Also a your room steward can do a lot of the same things a butler can do. Also if you have one very needy guest your butler will not be able to assist you much at all, so it’s better for you to have your stateroom attendant handle a lot of things for you. If you want certain drink ware or snacks in your room your attendant can make it happen. Most of the time you do not need a butler at all and it more efficient to do things yourself plus you know it is done and done they way you want.
Hello Lisa--These videos are always helpful as well as entertaining, and it is nice to know that we are not the only ones who may like to dress above the "minimum standard" of the new dress code. Thank you for posting.
Thank you for your Silver Spirit videos. We are looking at their Southampton to Lisbon Sept 2025 cruise - but the terrible reviews on Cruise Critic are fairly alarming. It’s good to hear a more positive perspective. Thank you!
Cancellation policy on Door to Door vs Port to Port is now exactly the same I believe, not what is described in the vlog. It's the Essential package which is restrictive.
We did an Alaska cruise years ago w Regent. Going on Silver Nova in September. The excursion offerings are very similar! Looking forward to a train transfer! Did the bus the last time!
Thank you for this video. The hours were helpful. However, your video would be better if you listed examples of things that the butler does as well as things that the butler does not do. Having never been on a cruise with a butler I have no idea how to utilize this service.
Thanks, appreciate the video and other you've done, it has been helpful. We just returned from our first SS cruise and we did tip our butler and cabin steward because we wanted to do it. We did see the recent letter about tipping during the cruise and it certainly was not well received by many including many veteran SS cruise clients I engaged about the matter. It doesn't matter to me, because as you said it's a personal choice and I sleep well. I suggest to SS that these inconsistencies be cleaned up, it will only help the brand.
We are due to sail in March 25 - our first SSea cruise. Please can you explain what the letter is you are talking about? Are they now advising to tip? We want to be prepared and take enough money with us. Thank you.
You make it sound obligatory even though you say it's personal choice. Th recent furore caused by a ship's Hotel Director suggesting a tip level, when tips are included, was taken by many of us, as obligatory. Off the ship? In some countries, Japan is a good example, tipping is seen as being rude. The only tips are for guides, or of course, should you do a personal tour or dine in a town/city where customs should be known. even "recommended" On board, suggesting a "normal" or even "recommended" amount is basicallysaying that it's expected. My view...and shared by many of us Europeans, especially given the response in the form recently.
Thank you for sharing your experience! Well filmed, great highlights, wonderful synopsis 😊 I’m sailing on my first cruise ever on Silver Ray this fall and your video has me amped up with excitement 🎉
Thanks for that video. Good to know about tipping tour guides and drivers on shore. Given that, because we're on a cruise, we contribute relatively little to the local economies compared to people actually staying there, it is good to be able to feel that you are doing something for the local people.
Great to hear from Lisa and her special guest star, Peter Herd! Now I can accurately have his Scottish brogue/burr in my head whilst reading his posts. Cheers!
More Silversea passengers need to be told that tipping your shore excursion guides and baggage handlers is something you can or should do. We were on Silversea in 2022 and watched a lady behave horridly to people onshore telling them what they had to do, that it’s all included, and she would not be tipping. She was exceptionally bad, not an example of the typical passenger. But I felt so badly for these hard working people being taken advantage of. Love Silversea! Headed to our 2nd voyage in less than 80 days.
