at first, i wasn't crazy about the guitar tone in this live version.. you can tell the mic is pressed right up to the amp, with a lot of suppression. with no reverb on it, to even mask like it's capturing the space of the room. personally, i like it better when the mic is just facing the backwards, & sounds more like you would actually hear it as a person actually standing there watching them play it in the room. drums bleeding into the mic & everything. the top comment said it best though - "The backup vocals were super solid." on point. which is really hard to do. recalling those notes from memory. only because you've played the song so many times. especially in a live setting, where it's really hard to hear yourself.
I've heard thousands of bands throughout my life but this band will always have a special place in my heart. The melancholic noise from the original versions and the ethereal feels of acoustic versions of their songs is just too perfect for my ears.
I've never seen this music video in my life. I could've sworn the video for this song was like Mark and them sitting in an apartment with bright color walls and looking at Polaroids of girlfriends or something. edit: nvm I was thinking of the video for "Always" but thought it went to this song.
When I was a kid I thought Deryck was so cool. In fact, the way hes playing at around 2:56 during the bridge is one of my inspirations for picking up the guitar. Almost 15 years later, I still feel the same
