are you still around. I think I have one of these. serial number is 8483-32...markings are exactly like yours. Owner left note before death that said "1927" Ball Bearing.

A ball bearing is a completely different animal. Thicker rim, tube and plate flange versus one piece this one is, different tone ring entirely. Very different sound and value.

Reminds me of the days in NI and UK when Gerry Adams voice was banned from the airwaves by Maggie F ing Thatcher. So there were a rake of Belfast actors who were employed to speak Adams’ words for him on the BBC. In true Flann O Brien style, they did this better than Adams himself. I think Stephen Rea was one of them. Who married Dolores Price an IRA hunger striker woman and who set up The Field Day actors company with Brian Friel et al. Anyways, finally, finally, Gerry Adams was allowed to speak with his voice by the BBC. Probably late 90s after GFA and he came to London and I swindled a ticket from some contact at the London Irish Centre in Camden (incidentally next door to Amy Winehouse’s home where she died in 2011). Anyways, I was in a very packed hall when Gerry regaled the crowd with stories of how much money the British government had spent keeping NI afloat since his arrival a few days before. He also said he was very happy to finally be in Derrylondon. Hahaha. The Guardian at the time ran some article on the visit covering Gerry’s book signing sessions in bookshops on Charing Cross Road. As Sinn Fein had by then changed tactics and decided they needed to appear to more than men lying in ditches, Gerry had started to wear nice suits. They even made Mitchell McLoughlin look half human. Anyways, the Guardian journalist was funny for once. He said that Tiocfaidh Armani had been in Foyle’s bookshop. Referring of course to the Irish Republican slogan - Tiocfaidh ar La - meaning Our Day Will Come. Sounds like Chucky R Lah. X

The evidence continues to mount. I haven't come across a single one of Ronson's peers that is not going to laud his incredible talents. And yet the Rock Hall of Fame continues its wayward rambling in search of the most non-Rock people you can imagine. Did you know that Dionne Warwick is up for consideration this year? Bwa ha ha....

Gosh! The beauty of that guitar’s sound is fabulous. Was he playing a Taylor? I was in the Nashville area for 20 years: 1997 - 2017; and sadly I never even heard of him. Beautiful sound.

No playing.....? Thats the most impt part Also there was a sweet spot of years that the copper rich mother lode of metal was used and no one knows when they ran out of it and which banjo had the last of it after that it was done. There was no " secret formula ". It was european bell bronze from europe already cast a certain way. Once Orville ran out of it that was it no more.

Earl actually started out with a rb-11 with a brass hoop before he got the Granada. The early recordings with the bluegrass boys were with that rb-11

I have picked up a gold framed 5 string banjo, with a different sound. Made from maple wood. Different sound. Still like to play it. Now I know what the banjo is called. However, I believe its a knock-off of a Gibson model. Could all Grenada's be manufactured in Japan? Many were still very nice and .... the sound is good. L.

Scruggs started the bluegrass boys with a rb11 then bought a new rb75 then traded that to don Reno for the rough Granada and Reno volunteered the additional d18 Martin I believe because the Granada was horrible. Later it was said they temporarily swapped tone rings as an experiment. About all that’s left of the Granada that’s original is the tone ring and rim I’m not sure even about the resonator. The rb75 was rare in that it had the resonator lined with poplar.

Nice banjo. Earl has his sound, but for me give me a good sound like Allen Munde gets out his Stelling like he plays on Banjo Sandwich. Gibsons are like gold. The reason they are so valuable is because people think they are valuable.

I can never stop wondering why Kemper was replaced. Bob really seemed to like him, even referenced him in multiple jokes on stage. The band really started to reach perfection when Kemper joined. Not dismissing recile’s talent by any means, another master at the craft.
