I'm Barbara Ingram, and I travel the world to look for sea glass and to soak up new experiences. I'm a dual U.S./Dutch citizen and have family in the Netherlands where I go several times a year. I share my travels here by video so you can see what these places are like. I also take cruise ship videos so you can see what the ships and rooms are like before you go. Visit my travel website: traveltipsandinfo.com for more great travel tips!

My hobby while traveling is sea glass hunting. So you will also find videos on sea glass identification and information as well as sea glass travel! You can find my sea glass website at: indigoseaglass.com

I was hoping Easington wouldn't be discovered for the sea glass. It's the only TRUE place for Seaham glass ! Why ? Because long shore drift pulled the glass waste from Seaham and deposits it on Easington. All those people picking Seaham glass are actually picking Wearmouth glass which could date back to the 7th century

Ah, the "goat path". As a kid there would be a dozen of us ambling down there with no thought for safety in the summer just to plod in the polluted sea (from the pit waste that was tipped all along the coast up to the 1980's). It was so bad you couldn't even see your toes when you were only ankle deep !! These days I still go down that path (in my 50's now) but with respectful caution. In the winter it's dangerous mud, in the summer it's dangerous loose soil/gravel and it's easy to slip but treat it with respect and it's the fastest way down / up It was always Boaty's bay for us kids or boatmans bay for older ones. Hawthorn hive was "smugglers cove" as legend had it there was a tunnel up to the top of the banks for smuggling

It's sad that seaham glass is becoming harder than ever to find there is hardly any really good bits of sea glass some people were selling it by the pound last couple of years and a local told me it was running out through over picking it is still hot and miss in August 24

I agree. I started going 7 years ago and it was so easy to find glass. Last fall when I was there, we hardly found a thing, and that was after a big storm.

I wonder how many years it will take for this island to be ruined. Bimini is no place for a cruise ship.

I agree. They need to manage access carefully, so that the island benefits from the money, but doesn't get run into the ground.

Never approach the bay from the top of the cliff. The land is very unstable and metres of cliff can drop at any time. This video clearly demonstrates the danger the women were in. Locals would never attempt such stupidity. To access the bay walk along the beach from the north as the tide is going out. Get the tides wrong and you will be stranded. This is a beautiful bay but please don't underestimate the dangers of access.
@BarbaraIngramTravel
@BarbaraIngramTravel Месяц назад
Thanks for the comment, but it was two experienced locals who showed us where to go (and we saw a third use the goat path while we were there), plus it was written up in Beachcombing Magazine. So apparently we're not the only stupid ones. Plus we made it clear in our video that nobody should attempt this (we will never do it again) and that the shore path is much safer as long as you hit the tides right.

The Schiphol location has a habit of overbooking and then trying to suggest it is your fault. They also put us in a room with a toilet that did not flush. As the hotel was full we were told our only option was to accept the situation. When I pushed back on this being the only option (for example finding us a room elsewhere) I was told that I would be asked to leave and banned. Compared with other CM locations this is an unpleasant and stressful property.

@@mystoriumX why are you being an apologist for them? If a hotel is shorthanded its fine for them to offer you a room with a broken toilet or tell people who have reservations that they are overbooked? I had used their Bowery location several times and posted good reviews about it - other than their signature bar being privately booked every evening so it was practically impossible to use.

Interesting. I've wondered a few times whether there was (still) a working path down to the beach from the level crossing (White Steps). I looked at it today, though I suspect it was the slightly more northerly entrance that I looked at. I just thought it looked too risky, unlike the path down the cliff from a level crossing just north of Hawthorn Dene which I climbed up today, and down on an earlier occasion. I just came upon your video when looking for information as to whether/when it is thought the railway is/will be under threat from coastal erosion. Haven't found any reference so far. This railway is one of the few alternatives to the ultra busy East Coast Main line (e.g. if there is a problem with it, or to send freight trains along). There is a campaign for the reopening of the mothballed (but, unfortunately track removed) Leamside Line from Ferryhill to Washington (Wearside) and on to Pelaw (South Tyneside), and I wondered whether if coastal erosion was a threat to the Durham Coast railway line this might create greater urgency for reopening the Leamside Line.

@BarbaraIngramTravel
@BarbaraIngramTravel 5 месяцев назад
If it looks black unless you hold it up against a bright light like a cell phone, then it's considered "Black Glass" or what they're now calling "Pirate Glass." It's just not as old as the amber or olive green colors.

@BarbaraIngramTravel
@BarbaraIngramTravel 6 месяцев назад
Anything that looks black without shining a light through it, is considered "black glass." It was just traditionally made with very dark olive/amber colors. But later they made dark glass using all different colors. In the sea glass world, it's all considered black glass of you can't tell the color just by looking at it. The romantic term 'Pirate Glass' has recently started circulating when referring to black glass. Even though it has nothing to do with pirates.

Hahah hi 👋 me again… just a heads up… Easington colliery is a canny rough place…. In fact there’s some streets you could just about buy a house for the price you probably paid for your air bnb 😂😂… last time I was there there was a lot of slides as I was walking past… well scary, also the bay between hawthorn and shippersea is called beacon point bay 🤘
@TheHappyPicker
@TheHappyPicker 6 месяцев назад
Oh I’m watching while commenting… you have beacon point marked on the map🤦‍♂️ also… that creamy coloured one you have as dragon glass I think is actually opaline glass… and that bit is the biggest most perfect one I’ve seen!! 🥰

And I reckon that dude down on the beach is Paul gammy… known locally as ‘jammy Gammy’ … him and his friends go to some spots they have to absail into!! … that massive dragon egg you found though 🥵🥵🥵 dreams are made of that ! The storm thing… yea I find big lumps at high tide but I find you need a few tides after a storm to just filter everything out and leave the goodies on the top 🤘

I had to laugh at your replies while you watched...very entertaining! 😂 That was not Paul on the beach, but we did look for him during our 2 weeks there, however, we never ran into him. We did meet Andy Iceton, though, and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him and learning more about the local area. I've been going for about 6 years now, but finally decided to make a video since we never could find any reference info for the area south of Seaham. And the piece I called Dragon Glass (instead of opalescent) was because it had green stripes throughout (hard to see in the picture), so I took the liberty of categorizing it as something a little more special than the regular opalescent. 😉 I do appreciate your knowledge and comments, and thanks for watching!
