Previously known as Numinous Soles. We are just an average couple starting a new life. A new life in a sprinter van with two dogs. A home is where the heart is and our hearts belong on the road, living the adventure. We have dreamed about this day for so long and it’s finally here.
We chose the word Numinous (adj.) because it describes an experience that makes you feel fearful yet fascinated, awed yet attracted. When we go to these new places we usually don’t have a plan and that can be overwhelming and scary at times. However, we end up living in the moment and we overcome that feeling. Now our new name represents us more than our adventurous lifestyle. We wanted to share our love for the planet, as earthlings (noun) an inhabitant of the earth. We share this planet we live on and it very important to take care of the planet we inhabit. Reduce and limit the number of plastic items is just one way to live a sustainable life. And well, subscribe to see our "wild" side.
It seems like 70 volts into your charger would be too much but I guess it's handling it. It seems like if you did series- parallel on the big panels, you'd still have enough voltage and probably more power.
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you! And one note about soldering: it is NOT better than crimping. Soldering is actually not meant for connecting wires together, and NASA specifically details how crimping is the proper method so as to avoid the problems that solder introduces. Crimps are more flexible, heat-resistant, and vibration-resistant, and they still give you a complete mechanical connection. I only recently learned this, and until now had always done what you guys did here. Hope it helps!
Viper car alarms makes a model that has a thermometer inside the car that will turn your car on if it hits the temperature you set it too as a back up option… you just have to have the air set on on so when your car comes on, so will your air.
Thank you for your feedback on the unit. I apologize for the problems you experienced. Because of your input, and input of others, I have changed the design of the thermistor board and added a way of setting the baseline compressor speed. This allows people to adjust the Btu output and current consumption. The new thermistor still adjusts the compressor speed based on the evaporator temperature. We also added universal adjustable condenser brackets, so customers do not have to fabricate their own. Also new to our units are available Wi-Fi thermostats. This allows monitoring and control of the unit from your cell phone if the van has a Wi-Fi connection or hot spot. Thank you again for your purchase and if you need support in the future please call me direct. Chris Frye, Owner, CNC USA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Y'all are really dedicated and patient for installing and troubleshooting all the problems. I don't think I would do the same in may van after seeing all y'all went through. I have opted to try a Freshair evaporative cooler. It is installed but I haven't started it up yet because I'm still working on the electrical and plumbing which it requires. But yours looks to work really well now that all the problems have been solved. You definitely need some sort of cooling in Texas.
Great video and information 👍. I wouldn't spend much time in a van without a ac system. I installed a conventional mini split AC/heat pump in my van. I can run it 24/7 off the solar panels and batteries. Definitely a thumbs up 👍
@@thewildearthlings 1,200 watts of solar panels and 900 amp hours of lithium batteries. I keep it on the economy setting and a lot of southern sunshine.
This is a really good detailed video. I've been looking all over the place for the wiring assignments of the various color wires that are coming from the Sprinter itself and yours is the first video I've seen out of many that broke this down so well. Thanks.
DO NOT do what they did in this video, terrible idea to fill in the struts with insulation, it will block air flow creating a lot of condensation and humidity that will then bring rust and mold.
I'll be going through this, husband is 6'4. Im 5'3. My issue is trying to make a bed area, where one side is, like 5'4 and the other side is at least 6'4. We would waste too much real estate having one long bed. I see an electric bread knife in our future. Thank you for the tips on insulation, it does feel like so much is lost to it. Im so lazy, I can see me throwing a bunch of carpets. Kudos that you figured it out.
100% know what you mean! We were set in DIYing something with 80/20 or buying something then welding it (with no experience) and then days later, we scrapped it all… TOTALLY WORTH IT.
I have just subscribed to y’all’s channel. Just wanted to say that the wheel cover really works. I seen your van on the interstate heading towards Beaumont,Tx and was wondering if you were RU-vidrs. Sure enough you are! Safe travels.
I see no need for the main switch that you have mounted in series with the contactorfor the BMS. If you just turn off the BMS, it will have the same effect and you will have saved 50-100 dollars in parts.
That’s true, and thanks for the advice! We put the switch in there for strictly safety purposes. Specifically In the event the contractor failed in a short scenario the contractor would be in an always on situation. It’s definitely not unheard of when dealing with Amps close to the maximum contractor rating (500). Hope that helps explain our thought process behind that. We definitely could have saved the money there though for sure :)
Great tutorial. Just got my system all set up properly because of your video and your how to. You did a great explanation with graphics and talk. I am very pleased
Genuinely thank you. It was super challenging for us to put ours together b/c the resources weren't there and we had no idea if the video even made sense after we put it together. We are so happy to hear this.
Hi guys, I enjoy this video that helps me throughout the process of my van conversation. I was wondering if it's possible that you can please help me with a DIY? I am looking to find out how to install my cable wires to my alternator to get 220 AMP. I have a 2021 ProMaster 2500 series 159w base with a 220 AMP alternator built in but I haven’t found a video showing this type of installation. Can you please advise me if possible? Thank you so much in advance. I will post a video on my installation once I get the info.
Hey José, We haven't actually done that part of our build yet and additionally we've never worked with the ProMasters'. I will say that what you are trying to do highly depends on the batteries you are trying to charge. There are alot of factors to consider as well, like overworking your alternator, battery isolators, b2b chargers, etc. I wish I could be more helpful, but we have decided to opt for a secondary alternator kit which charges our batteries completely seperate and independent of the alterator charging for the Van's starter battery. I hope you are able to figure it out!
