We always start school off the Monday after the 4th of July. I love how you layout all the curriculum on the first day, as my kiddos are getting older I think they would appreciate that. Thanks for sharing.
I love the laying out of their curriculum so they can see everything and you talking about it all. What a great idea. Also, your sticker reward basket. Such great ideas. Thank you!
I too am a puzzle lover. A game I enjoy playing with my kiddos is Labrynth. Its a great strategy game in which the board actually changes every turn, kinda like a puzzle (LOL). The object of the game is to reach the items on the board that you have cards for and return to your home spot. First one back home wins the game.
Well, to be honest, when the boys have been scored above their grade, I have bragged about them to my friends…so a few more people are made aware of their scores! 😅
I have 2 boys ages 12 and almost 10, I wanted to share a few book recommendations - Geronimo Stilton, Bailey School Kids (older series, would have to find used), Wishbone Mysteries (from the 90s), National Park Mystery series, Nancy Drew, The World According to Humphrey series, and Explorer Academy series.
Children’s book that has chapters, like Little House, My Father’s Dragon, Alice in Wonderland, etc. vs. picture books which are the shorter books with pictures on every page, usually geared towards babies/toddlers/preschoolers.
I love your planning ideas! So helpful. I’m also loving your wood shop grading and assignment papers! Will they be available to buy on your Etsy account?
Thanks so much for sharing. I am so intrigued by a 50 week school year. We do 36 weeks, 6 weeks on, 1 off. Can I ask more about your school year and breaks? X
Absolutely. I also have a video where I talked about how we do breaks. It’s the video about the benefits of year round homeschool. But ask any questions you have.
I am so glad to find this flip through! I have been eyeing this Bible curriculum for a long time! I was especially happy to hear that you do not use the teacher guides. They are so expensive and bulky-looking, that I have been looking for reviews, hoping to find someone who says that the teacher guide is not necessary, but haven't had any luck until now. The curriculum description itself makes it sound like it's required, but based on the samples I've seen, I figured maybe I could make do without it. Definitely going to give it a try this next year now!
Glad it was helpful! I don’t think I realized there were teachers guides when I first bought them. But yeah, I feel we have done just fine. Though I don’t know what we’re missing out on. 😅
Hi! We had a similar pencil situation for a hot minute, too. I had the kids go through all the pencils and pick one they really liked. My oldest choose a mechanical pencil for a few years, this least year he liked this short green pencil, then this year he had a red one but with 3-4 different Eraser heads. My 2nd oldest now has about 3 she switches around but, she knows that's all she is getting. If she looses those then she gets one of my choosing and she is not fond of that idea because she likes her colorful ones and she wants to put on her pencil box (not in my teacher book). I gave them pencil cases (this year my oldest built himself a pencil/pen/marker holder) and when we finished school I reminded them to make sure they put there pencils back in their boxes because it's the only one they have and they need to put it back. And the times when they can't find their pencil for lessions ( the next time ) I would tell them "well you need to find it because you need to do lessions" and usually after lessions they do something they want to do, eat a fun treat or we go do something if all is finished. So if they don't get done, they do not get to go do the other fun thing. I know every family is different but, I thought maybe sharing might help in some way❤ I've heard a lot of teachers struggle with the missing pencils too! Hope your methods work this year!!
Sometimes it can take a long time to find a system that works! 😅 Glad you found one, I forgot to mention my husband has been known to take the school pencils too. But I’m hopeful this pencil dispenser will help. 🤞🏼
@@acozyviewI’d be tempted to label the pencils and then they can track what number pencil they get and when it goes missing you know which number it is. Rather than just saying there was 20 now there’s only 15
I agree with adding the erasers. Not sure why but they go down really fast on those pencils. I love the tabs! I never seen those notebooks. Definitely buying them. Thank you for sharing!
HSLDA is amazing! I’m loving your wood shop elective and architecture elective. I’m sure I told you this already on your 6th grade picks video 😂 Question: would you be willing to share on your Etsy account the worksheets/lesson plan you’re making up for the architecture class? I want to steal your idea for that elective and that’ll be an amazing tool to have. I’m also loving the log sheets you created! My son is also doing typing this year. Thank you!
Thanks, I can totally do that. I haven’t made the architecture worksheets yet, but when I do I’ll be sure to put that on Etsy. I plan to finish the 60 hour elective log sheets this month. Been trying to come up with more designs than just piano and typing. I’ll stick those on Etsy too when completed. 😊
We did the human body last year but spread that section over the entire year and really enjoyed it! If you want videos to go along with it, we watched a RU-vid channel called LearnBright and found videos at least half or more of the lessons. Used this with my 10 and 13 year old. We also love Notgrass and have used them the last two years!❤
I have never owned one of the teachers guide, and we have done just fine without them. I can’t say what content the teachers guides add, so I can’t comment if they are worth it.
Thank you for sharing. Those architecture and woodworking electives sound fun. I’m planning to get The Hiding Place graphic novel as well. We read the Wild Robot and my son loved it, we are currently reading the second book in the series now.
Stubby was a real dog during the war so I’m thinking the Dog Diaries is a non-fiction series about real dogs. There is also a movie about Stubby that might might be fun to watch after you read the book.😊
Dear Mam, Your video content is really good. But unfortunately your video is not properly SEO. That's why your video views and subscribers are not increasing. If you do video SEO then definitely rank your video. As a result, subscribers and views will increase. If you want I can help you grow your RU-vid Channel.
Love these ideas! My oldest, 11, is not into reading. I'm making it a priority to try and grow his love for reading! And all my other kiddos as well. 😊
Question about the Positive Action Bible Studies...Do you need to buy the teacher guide or just the student manual enough? I am looking for a Bible study that my child can do on his own. Thanks.
I’ve never bought the teachers guide, so not really sure what’s in it. My kids are pretty independent with these, especially my oldest. Sometimes they will ask for help searching for a book of the Bible, but other than that they do it on their own.
We love Masterbooks science. We are using God’s Design: Life and have 3 weeks left in plants (we also school year round). We are going to take a month or two off of science this summer and resume with human body in the fall.
It really does look like a wonderful series, I’m excited to get into it. My kids have only a few lessons left of their current Masterbooks let’s talk science books. Those have been fun for us too.
I am so excited to have found your channel! We have a similar teaching style and thoughts on 6th grade and are using a lot of the same resources. Looking forward to hearing more from you :)
Thank you for sharing! We will have a 1st and 5th grader and appreciate hearing about the things you are considering regarding trasncripts and electives.
I love your wood shop and architecture class plan. What a great idea! I’m trying to find electives for my son, who is going into the 9th grade, and it is so hard since he doesn’t know what he wants to be when he becomes an adult. Trying to give him options and learn about new traits I think will open him up to different ideas. Thank you 😊
Electives were always my favorite part of school. One thing we would like to do with our kids is introduce them to a few different trades. My husband being in the construction industry, those tend to come to mind first. But we like the idea of equipping them to have knowledge for a job after high school. If they choose to do college they will have an easier time paying for it. We are considering having them pick a trade in high school to do an internship with for this purpose.
