This is a beautifully shot video and I watch it frequently (admittedly part of that is to understand your approach to lamination). Does the choice of the interior wood alter the voice of the guitar at all? And, roughly how thick is the outer wood, the kerfing, and the interior laminate(s)? I would love to watch videos of you building and voicing both the backs and tops. Watching you all work is pure joy.
Breathtaking sonically and aesthetically!! Of course Stuart Ryan is a perfect musician to demonstrate such an incredible masterpiece of an instrument!!
This is an amazing work! Please allow me to ask about the process of side bending. What kind of wood is used for structural sides? Is it spruce or cedar? Thank you so much. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks for watching! It's African Blackwood. We cut our back and side sets from billets here in our workshop, you can read more about that process on our website!
If the guitar's top bellies it will need a neck reset. Is this dovetail glued? How would you get it off, and how would you recut the joint to correct the neck angle?
That's how our guitars sound. We look to pull as much overtone and response from our guitars as we can, this along with our compression braced back gives the fullness of sound that you're hearing. Thank you so much for highlighting this.
I actually gasped when watching this video this morning. An instrument of Profound Imagination and Craftsmanship! Knowing , firsthand, (as the humble owner of a Taran Springwell mandolin, #17) the care and detail that Rory & team put into each instrument the end result is still breathtaking ! And I realize it everyday I open my mandolin case.
To whom do you attribute the ‘structured sides’ design? For me I think it’s Mike from Indian Hill (I think), a Canadian guitar co-op out of Quebec I believe? But maybe there’s previous iterations…
Great video. So much thought put into this, and then working through it to create a very special guitar, wonderfully brought to life by Kris. I'm impressed. Congratulations. Dagger Gordon.
hauntingly beautiful playing and this taran sounds ethereal! this price range is beyond most of us mere mortals, but doesn't stop us dreaming!! luckily its not left handed!!!!😍
Beautiful guitar in both appearance and tone! And Stuart creates overtones and sustain that is absolutely inspiring. I have to run off to practice now! Thanks, John Gig Harbor
We always feel that the Oreval is a performing and recording instrument that can throw a huge amount of sound and the Tirga Mhor, while perfectly happy on stage has an encompassing and intimate character. Both are very versatile guitars. Hope this helps. Very best, Rory
Fantastic guitar and playing. I absolutely love a 12-fret guitar with a cutaway. This design works great for OM's, OO's, OOO's and now we see from Rory at Taran it works great for a jumbo sized instrument. Thanks, John Gig Harbor, WA
Rory, I feel so honored to have been able to offer you the chance to build without limits and the guitar is EXTRAORDINARY!! This my friends is how guitar making should be. Chasing a sound, a dream and making wood come alive! Bravo and sincere thanks and love
