British - English - White - Race - Culture and Civilization permeated England before 1900. England’s political Elites felt guilty about their non - white imperialisms and as a liberal form of psychological compensation invited the former empires non - whites to emirate to England. And now the chickens have come home to roost. The same thing can happen to your country!
One random thought about the acting: it can be a good challenge for a conductor's resilience, professionality and self esteem, especially for a male conductor, and stand in front of this teenage female choir, as they act sassily, staring *DAGGERS* into him, and conduct them passionately and professionaly.
You have no idea how much this song means to me I only just learn that the instrumental version of this song is the school bell music for my school... All the memories man
My grandparents moved with my mum and her sibling in '75. My uncle's a Kiwi. My grandad lived there since '75 and died 5 years ago, New Zealand you have a beautiful anthem both in English and Maori. I cry listening to this, thank you for looking after him and my family there.
Such a range of ages and voices. Well executed and sung for such a diverse choir. Great arrangement and conductor. I love how they followed her with no sheet music. Great mahi1
Amazing, wonderful and so professional! Thanks. The first time I heard this song was MANY years ago as a small child, It was sung by Kathleen Ferrier with accompaniment on piano (maybe Gerald Moore playing?) Hearing it 5 minutes ago again (after maybe 50 years) brought back some emotional memories and although your choral version was VERY different, it was true to the original with a superb arrangement, accompaniment and violin 'obligato' ! I hope you've made recordings of other works/pieces. ¡ǝƃɐnƃuɐl puɐlɐǝZ ʍǝN ǝɥʇ uᴉ ɐpoɔ sᴉɥʇ pǝpnlɔuᴉ ǝʌ,I os puɐlɐǝZ ʍǝN ɯoɹɟ ǝɹɐ noʎ ʇɐɥʇ uǝǝs ʇsnɾ ǝʌ,I
I am not yours, not lost in you, Not lost, although I long to be Lost as a candle lit at noon, Lost as a snowflake in the sea. You love me, and I find you still A spirit beautiful and bright, Yet I am I, who long to be Lost as a light is lost in light. Oh plunge me deep in love - put out My senses, leave me deaf and blind, Swept by the tempest of your love, A taper in a rushing wind.
Oh, please go read them. You’ll be so blessed. Just Google “do not stand by my grave and weep“. My knowledge of the mechanics of poetry extends no farther than high school English class, but I was struck by the uncommon AABBCC structure. I was surprised that the rhyming pattern carried through to the second verse (stanza?) because it felt so different from the first. The answer is in the number of sentences in each. But who cares about the structure? The words are breathtaking.
Every member of this performance is flawless, and I equally enjoy Susan Densem’s conducting which so full of energy and precision. I rewatch this regularly. Rejuvenating.
