Welcome to the Badger's Apprentice, where we'll take a light hearted look at movies, without all the spittle-filled anger and personal offence-taking that tends to dominate film discourse recently.
We'll try to enjoy ourselves as we discuss plot holes, obscure background details, and fanciful extrapolations of minor plot points that have the potential to cast a film in a whole new, usually darker and slightly f**ked light.
So grab yourself a pint and a packet of nuts from the bar and join me, Jeff, and sometimes Mr. Colin Gerrard, on this journey through cinema, with videos, shorts and the podcast TROPE ON A ROPE, all available here on The Badger's Apprentice.

Its been a while since i listen back to this and I too forgot how we ended it. If listeners want to look up the real story behind the film check the wikipedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incident_on_Hill_192 Or read the original New Yorker article on which the movie was based (its long but worth it - there's also a paywall but im sure some googling will sort you out): www.newyorker.com/magazine/1969/10/18/casualties-of-war

Any other movie and I would despise this film, but all I wanted was swearing, murder, blood, action, and badass fights. For the most part I got what I wanted, and the movie did not add some bullshit new found rule or law for the MCU. It sat out of the MCU lore and politics, did what it wanted, made me laugh, and because of that it can be forgiven for the terrible plot and sometimes questionable cgi.

No interest in watching the full review if this is the highlight. Deadpool and Wolverine was a breath of fresh air after the absolute garbage Marvel has been peddling after Endgame. It was fun, funny, and entertaining. Not everything has to be Citizen Kane, the Deadpool movies are for laughter, silly violence, and complete chaos which this movie brought us on demand. Add in the surprise cameos and best intro of the entire Marvel Universe and you have a must see movie that anyone who isn't afraid of naughty language or violence will be happy afterwards.

Oh I’m not asking for Citizen Kane O’dude, plus Kane isn’t that heavy on the laughs. In their interview for hot ones jackman said he was inspired by old odd couple comedy’s, Planes Trains and Automobiles, 48 hours and the odd couple and I feel they could have leaned into that more than they did. But I’m not here to yuck your yum. If you liked it, power to you brother. But I hope you consider watching more, you might not agree with everything but it’s the internet, that’s kinda the point. Cheers for watching.

As a fan it pains me to say this but I have to be honest - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a bad movie. The film is total a mess. It's an overstuffed, poorly paced, confusing, convoluted movie with an unnecessarily complicated plot. There are far too many characters, some of which have been needlessly shoehorned into the story. Many if the characters are also very bland, with very little personality, charisma, likability, humor or chemistry. It's overstuffed with unnecessary dialogue, dull subplots, pointless characters and scenes which go on for far too long. It's not funny either. I didn't laugh once during the movie, and neither did the audience I was watching it with. It's not frightening either. There are no scares in the film. Laughs and scares are two things you expect from a Ghostbusters film, but this latest entry in the series is completely devoid of any. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan may be talented directors, but they're the wrong people to be writing Ghostbusters films. Afterlife was mediocre at best, but Frozen Empire is just plain bad. With a heavy heart, I rate this film 3 out of 10. I feel a lot of fans are in denial about just how bad this film is.

They needed to start the princess off as weak and in need of help all the time. Timid and afraid being told what to do all the time. Happy to be given to a husband so she would be taken care off. But then as the story progresses she becomes stronger and more assured. Until finally at the end she can stand on her own feet and cab save her kingdom on her own. Instead we got a bad ass ladyboss from second 1 and remained lady boss and in the end was lady boss. Boring and predictable.

The story line ignored the fact that the people in the kingdom were victims as well. They believed the lie that the dragon was the problem when really it was their own king in the past who destroyed the dragon's eggs. Elodie forgot this fact when she torched them all. The story would have been more sympathetic if she had saved the kingdom and ended the curse once and for all. She could have provided redemption for all with her wisdom.

It’s weird she set fire to that nice kingdom then f**ked off back to winterfell with the dragon, rather than taking over the kingdom and sending for her starving people to come live there.

Oh my gosh I never finished the American version of Life on Mars. I was a huge fan of the British version and noped out of the American one after watching like two episodes. They went in a VR direction with it? Wild. Good analysis, by the way. Well done.

Thank you. The American version ended with it being a VR simulation while in cryo-sleep on board a ship literally going to mars.

@@thebadgersapprentice and the whole movie took way too damn long to finally show the plot twist like they did it way too late. It was just too annoying. It was like they kept trying to give you an answer, but it never happened until the end.
