My Duramax XP 12000 e h will only produce 120 volts why can't I get 220? Have check stator and rotor all are good Factory technician said to replace the selector switch in the main breaker I did that and it still isn't producing
Great video thanks for the information. I have owned a Predator 8750 for about 5 years that has less than 10 hours use, 6 of those hour just today. I wired it to run my house and while running I noticed different voltages on each leg of the 240 volt plug so my search began to learn how to troubleshoot and fix this issue. You mentioned in this video that if the generator was used to run your home neutrals needed to be unbounded. Please explain this or point me to the right information. I'm still trying to understand why a never used generator would have different voltages so the search continues.
Never used 5500eh. Ran once on propane when purchased to make sure it worked, then sat for 3 years. The electric start does nothing, it will not start with propane now, but it starts fine with gas. The voltmeter never moves. Is it toast?
I have a predator generator & the circuit breaker popped so I tried to reset it and now it won’t reset. Or provide power Did my breaker go out or do I have to replace the outlets
I have a predator 4000 that only produces 4.8v AC on both legs. I've done all the tests, new avr, brushes, etc, resistance is with spec around 1 ohm both legs and 50-60 at the brushes. haven't pulled the head apart yet to inspect the windings, but what would you suspect the issue to be? this generator has 0 hours on it, bought it a few years ago, but then didn't try to use it up until recently, and found it to not be working.
I hope you don't mind getting some bit of critique... I don't profess to be better than you but, there are things that you can objectively tell whether it's been done right or wrong. Overall, you seem to have a rather heavy-handed approach on things; Dragging and throwing stuff around like tools and parts, and this seems to manifest in the quality of your work... First, you broke the bolt that would've dislodged the rotor, destroyed the end bearing when you forced the stator off with what looked like a crow bar, and then ultimately dropped the rotor on a hard surface. I mean, that rotor looked usable and only the stator needed replacing. If I was the customer, I would've been upset having to spend more for a replacement rotor. Anyway, when you were still trying to tighten the bolt to free the rotor, the end bell (and stator) was still attached. Further, the end bell was still on their rubber supports, limiting its movement and hence, destroyed the bearing when the stator and end bell were forced off at a weird angle. I also don't remember you using a torque wrench and just relied on the impact driver to tighten screws on soft aluminum. Finally, you didn't check the frequency/RPM nor address the surging behavior of the engine in the end. I can only hope that you take this positively. More power to you. 🙂
@@TimHancock-h6e Just calling a spade a spade. I've been very delicate as well as detailed in the things I thought were handled poorly. I guess that if you've watched how James Condon does his generator repairs (www.youtube.com/@jcondon1 ), you start to treat seemingly worthless machines with a bit more respect and finesse.
this was built before 50 amp quiet inverter generators ever came to market, this is designed to be left in place at all times, a typical generator cannot be left out.
Nice video. I have a Predator 9000 with 30 hrs on it. It overheated and melted the wiring in the stator. I can replace the stator and rotor based on your video, but finding the parts is proving difficult. Suggestions?
No. I started it during an outtage last year, same as always. The motor was hitching. A friend said probably bad gas. I changed gas, carb, air/fuel filters, fuel line, coil, and let it run for 2 hours. The motor eventually ran fine, but somewhere along the way, the copper coils melted. I cant find stator through HF, the mfg or Ebay.
What are the most common causes of small 2000 watt inverter gens that run but no power output. No idle up from computer. Just runs but doesn't put out.yamaha,or firman 2000
Hey there! I was wondering if you might be able to help. I have a predator generator that delays in making power. The engine runs fine, and once it kicks on, the power is good and consistent. It takes about 3-5 minutes for the power to come on after we start the engine. Any ideas?
Loss of residual magnetism. First try running it more frequently. It is a self excited gen it must either have residual magnetism or a pmg permant magnet gen rotor to produce field current. Residual is cheaper so most likely.
Where are you out of? What I have the Duramax 9000 inverter, and yesterday at camp, I turned camper ac on, and I lost all power. The generator is still running but has no output power. Generator turns on runs great, but 0.0 OUTPUT power. What went wrong? It's pretty new maybe 1 yr 6 months old
Question, i have a predator 8750 420cc that i bought with a blown engine. I rebuilt the engine to where it runs perfect, but figured out i have no power. I checked the wiring to see if they were color matched THEY WEREN'T. all colors were moved down one pole, the black was grounded, and the ground was connected to the red wire. I corrected the wiring and still no avail. Could there wiring messed up something?
I have the 9000/7250 manufactured Aug 2019, purchased in Mar 2020, has NEVER worked right, but did not know it until after their 90 day + extended warranty were both expired. The Black wire leg started tripping the breaker. HF is still jerking me around on a replacement breaker since they redesigned this model & their parts are all screwed up. Found identical breakers online, put one in, fired it up, had power on 1 120 outlet, but the other was dead, it ran for a bit then I heard a POP but didn't see any sparks or smoke, & shut it down. Engine still starts & runs great, but no power out at all. I may have crossed a connection between the harness from the powerhead to the wires on the engine end, because I hooked them up by color, not realizing they stupidly change wire colors on a lot of the connections in the back of the control panel where they are one color but as they enter the harness to come out to the engine end, they are no longer the same color! I have no idea what or where the POP came from, cannot see any burn or scorch marks anywhere inside the powerhead when I removed the cover to look. I am now clueless as to which parts to check, or how to even check them, and I can't find wiring diagrams for this model anyplace. ANY pointers from anyone! HELP!! I now own an expensive boat anchor instead of a generator!
@@theequipmeptguru9030 ok. That was the conclusion I leaning towards after all the electrical diagnostics that I did. Would you happen to know where I can get a stator/stator-rotor from that fits my unit? I found some, but I don't know if 5-6kw compatible with 8kw.
One of my friends have a Duromax XP10000HX that run for 30 seconds and die a gentleman from support say he saw low output voltage any subjections on what causes that thanks for your time.
Just bought a Predator 9000. Already had to work on it. The back cover had been Smashed on. It was bent badly. It cut into the wires running into the back. As soon as I started it, it started arching! Turned it off immediately! Like to never got the cover off! It was about 1/2 in on too far! That is what caused the wire to get cut. Fixed it, put the cover back on and now it is working great! And this was new out of the box!
I’m not sure how you got that 14mm(12mm for yours) my motor keeps turning over backwards. I tried to shove a couple things to lock it up but had no success just keeps turning
@@theequipmeptguru9030 got it done was able to use a extension to lock into the metal fan blades, was also easier to use a deadblow hammer on the bottom mounts to shimmy the generator off as one piece. Luckily was able to use another generator assembly off an old one with a bad motor. I’ve now realized I need more generator parts😂
a lotta guys will wind a thin piece of rope or twine into the cylinder- stops the piston from reaching all the way to the top of the stroke, so it won't turn over,
I have the 1k version. Starts up fine, built in voltage meter is pretty much all over the place, under load it drops way down either on 120 or 240. It could power a light bulb.
Shouldn’t you make sure the main panel is off and the interlock kit is engaged ,and all your circuit breakers are off at the beginning of your video and once the generator is up and running turn on the generator breaker on to feed power to your panel and then engage each breaker in electric panel for each circuit you want to power
we have never had an issue with the every breaker being on. Th only issue that may happen is the main breaker on the generator would pop if it got overloaded. The generator should be on and warmed up before turning the generators breaker in the panel to the on position.
Got a question. I bought a used Duromax 10000 dual fuel Generator. It has a Key to start the generator. Turn the key and it does Nothing. Bought a new battery and nothing. Replaced the key switch and the same. Any idea's?
sounds like either the starter is bad or the key switch. use a multimeter or test light to see if you get 12 volts at the red wire on the starter all the time. if you get 12v, check the white wire at the starter, smaller wire, may be black, goes to a different terminal, see if it has 12v in the start position. no power in key start position means bad switch or bad 12vfeed to the switch
I just picked up a predator 4375 that was in a flood and totally submerged in muddy water. I took it apart and cleaned it all up the best I could and used a full can of electric parts cleaner on the power head, I changed the oil and gas and this thing is running great and making power. I cant hardly believe it lol. How long do you think it will last?
