like that's all people picked up on, the one inconsistent scene with dumb scientists in the cave. It's a minor detail, the point is they die, just could've made the cobra attack them despite their distance.
And the geological mapping team with state of the art mapping tech that automatically maps the Alien craft...get lost in the craft. The movie was rt'd.
- Tarantino trying to have an earnest conversation based in his experience working on the film and his experience as one of the world's most well-respected directors - Host desperately trying to not say anything negative about the movie. Probably to avoid aome defamation lawsuit. I bet the show were panicking the entire time Tarantino was talking. The problems in our media are extensive and long-lasted. We need to start doing something about this. A person like Tarantino should be allowed to speak his views of the movies in a dignified way instead of the host trying to make jokes around it and bring the topic away. Imagine running a talk show and trying to convince your guests to stop speaking. Does that make sense?
The original Alien movie had characters with so much common sense. Their only flaws consisted of underestimating the Alien's life cycle and intelligence, which they could never have fathomed, and the insane greed of their corporate overlords.
As an Alien's franchise fan Prometheus is so disappointing. A huge potential was wasted. It's really hard to understand why almost all movies, including scifi and terror, have those stupid characters and stupid scenes. Or worst, the fu**ing comic relief scenes.
Def a good looking movie. Great sets and costumes, impressive CGI and the marketing was peak. Too bad it was idiotic. Same deal with Man of Steel around that time
You can totally have a horror movie without dumb stuff. Put the character into a lose-lose situation by chance. Easy. Ironically, that's what Alien mostly did. The crew made some tiny mistakes in Alien but nothing like modern movies, and it's believable for the crew in Alien to make sense because they are sold to us as "space truckers." The movie kinda shows us that this is a future where space trucking is basically a common thing, and the people on the ship are just workers, not hardcore super well-trained elite forces. Even then in the movie the crew still makes REASONABLE choices, maybe not the BEST choices, but reasonable for the situation they are in. That being said it's super easy to put characters into lose-lose situations and IMO that's mostly what horror is, that's why horror is SCARY, you are in a situation that is DIRE there are no easy answers, there will be pain and we have to go through what the character has to go through. Think of it like this, the existential dread of a relative dying. It's something we all have to face and there is NOTHING we can really do about it. It's a no-win situation; we can only enjoy the time we have with our loved ones and wait.
I LOVED Promethius BUT there were some really Dumb Parts!! Why infect the ONE scientist with whatever was in the Gooo?? What was the point? Why were the Engineers running? what happened Why didnt the engineers who escaped Blow the planet or Station up if it was infected with these creatures?? These r simple question. that Riey shouldve addressed. But i still love the premise of the movie and the mystery surrounding that Universe
The level of idiocy of the characters is completely unforgivable. As an audience member you really feel violated by the writer, as if even the dumbest human on earth would ever approach an unknown alien life form bare handed with no trace of a protocol
I can argue as to why the scientists are the way they are... Because this was a privately funded mission by an insane old man at the end of his life desperate to do anything to extend his life no matter how absurd it may be. I came to this realization when the submersible that imploded happened. That project was literally the same thing that happened in Prometheus. A really rich guy privately funded his own submersible to see the Titanic wreckage and then sold a bunch of passes to other people telling them that by being on this mission they are scientists. The scientists in prometheus may have qualifications but theres also something else to discuss. What if Peter Weyland actually did try to get more competent scientists but they rejected the offer because they saw how absurd the mission was? What if the crew we're seeing truly is the dumbest/cockiest crew to be put together because they were simply the best that were willing to do this mission. It doesnt matter how much you're being paid. If a mission isnt safe then a smart individual wont take part.
“Holloway is sick. Open the cargo bay doors” Everyone except Vickers: “yea sure no problem. Let’s break quarantine protocol and kill everyone on board”
Prometheus had a lot going for it, but the way characters were written to be total idiots (even if it contradicts that character’s previous behaviour or personality) just to move the plot along really ruined it for me. It was even worse in the sequel, the scene where the captain puts his head over the egg because David said it’s safe, even though it was just after he watched David get angry after he hurt the albino alien. It blew my mind 😂
I justo think the movie would BE a lot better if they remove the terror and horror shit and present something well constructed and with some good arguments, for me terror is imature, do not like and looks forced all the times
Tarantino is absolutely right. Prometheus has a lot of stupid characters who make so many dumb decisions! I love Prometheus, though, but more as a standalone movie, not as an Alien sequel.
