All these comments about Heaven missing the point of the song... he was a beautiful man and he lived. And he brought a little more of heaven to earth for us to experience.
This version of the song is good but it is the weakest of them. To think Jim sued Meatloaf to not make his version of the song is today preposterous. Meatloaf's version is galaxies better.
Jim steinman chose the right singer to do this demo. His demo of heaven can wait with better midler is awful. Once she created the divine miss m with barry and bill Hennessy she should have revisited steinman’s music. She would have been great making her entrance singing bat out of hell.
Just a masterpiece from the Master Steinman in the powerful voice of Rory Dodd, who -pretty much similar to Bonnie Tyler-, just followed the feeling and the directions impressed by Steinman on the way he wished he made the concept of his songs. This version is absolutely an incredible one!! .... Just new in 2024 from a pretty terrific girl in her voice, coming from Afrikaan Pretoria took this masterpiece and honor Mr Steinman with her powerful voice as well. A very good signal that Mr Steinman is alive and Mr Dodd keeps on being -on this particular song-, the perfect fit on his voice, for this song. Long live Mr Steinman!!!....
Not sure how I’d never heard of this version before but damn. I’ve always said, you need a special singer to really work Steinman’s songs. And Bette is one of them. Just imagining what some of his songs might have sounded like if she’s performed.

Do you ever talk with Bonnie Tyler because it's hurt me seeing her videos doing concerts in europe and coming to North American at all does think about her fan's buy her music an don't come here for concert. If you talk with her explain to her that i seen ABBA coming to do a reunion concert and was going the United States of America and not coming to Canada so when to radio stations here and told them about ABBa not doing 1 concert in Canada they told thanks we will not play there music here at all. I don't want to do the same with Bonnie Tyler too
Jim Steinman was a genius, a songwriter unlike any other. He consistently pushed the boundaries of what was considered normal in the industry. My parents have always loved his work, and for the past year, I've come to admire his talent as well (i'm currently 14). I'm proud to say I’m named after him.
I was happy that Jim got tired of Meatloaf not wanting Bat Outta Hell II released and did it himself . I prefer his versions of the songs over Meatloaf's version.
