I just went to two music festivals that still used 2 of these boxes and 2 SB 850s as stage/DJ monitors! Not sure why, when the sound company that provided those festivals has brand new d&b audiotechnik SL-series for FOH! I guess these are still serviceable and sound good today? I also saw KF750 main hangs as recently as 2018! (Replaced with Meyer M’elodies in 2019.)
Why would u replace and RCF driver with EMINENCE ?? EAW uses rcf or bc in their high end cabs .. they put the eminence in their cheaper cabs …. Italian components are way better … if u Blow a speaker just recone it .. why would U replace it …? Unless a magnet has shifted or something there is really no reason to replace …
@@solitaire5142 so buy another rcf driver … why eminence …. Obviously eaw thought rcf drivers are better or they would have loaded the speaker with eminence…
Good Morning, Have any of you had experience removing the weights from the cabinets? Since we are not hanging these it would be so much easier to handle without the added wieghts...
This is some bad information, the drivers should be RCF LF RCF MF and B&C, JBL or TAD for HF. If you have questions or need parts contact Steve Davis at www.paneonline.com he ran the EAW service department during the KF850's life and can supply the parts and knowledge to do this correctly. - Ken Berger (Founder of EAW and CEO until sold in 2000)
Hi Ken, nice to meet you! I have 12 kf850-T and 12 Sb850 ... I have two qestions!! I use In my Sb850 RCF L18P300 and In the KF 850 use RCF L15-554-k , RCF L10-YK , JBL 2" for highs... this configuration is correct? and... What amplifiers you recomended for this system? I use LAB gruppen LAB 1300C For Highs, LAB 1600 For MIDS and LAB 2002 for LOWs... next i use FP 6400 for sub and MX800I to controll. What you think about?
@@gonnmeizoso2911 That all sounds like they are not real EAW parts (EAW mostly used Simi-custom drivers with EAW part numbers not RCF part numbers) but what you have should be good, they will how ever not be useable with EAW crossover presets as they will not have the same acoustic performance. You will need to do measurements with Smaart or similar test equipment to set up proper crossover settings. I do not think the MX800i will let you change the settings so I suggest using a modern DSP based unit like the Lake. Good luck.
You used Eminence drivers in an EAW KF850 a once brand new £,5000 speaker cabinet? Ok Eminence make good drivers but come on if you're gonna replace them with anything it might as well be RCF. Plus if you're worried about cost maybe you should run your system in such a way that you virtually never have to replace drivers.
I use RCF L18P for my subs, they are 18", the EAW KF850 uses 15'" and the frequencies call for a MID/LOW driver, the Eminence sounds really good on those cabs.
Eaw has originally used three types of 2 "controllers: JBL, TAD and B & C. I have the JBL motors, they sound very sweet and are less strident than the TADs, although in either case, the replacement of the round membrane The B & C engines are the most common in the 850 European boxes, the parts are cheap and the price is very low. Although it is inferior to TAD or JBL in quality, they do not give bad result. The American boxes almost all have installed motor TAD.
+Stevie West EAW has used an assortment of drivers from RCF, B&C, Eighteen Sound, and yes, Eminence, throughout the years. Until you hear a box where the drivers have been replaced with the Eminence drivers (the specific ones used in the video are designed as replacements specifically for the KF850, not repurposed off-the-shelf units) then you won't know for sure. The quality and all-around level of Eminence products has improved greatly over the years. I still like the Italian drivers, but there's nothing special in the water there, just a brain-trust of knowledgeable driver engineers that have moved around among the Italian driver manufactuers spreading their competency around to the products made by those mfg's. The only thing I saw in the video above that made me cringe slightly is the modification of the old-style midrange phase plug, which will definitely modify the sound of the box.
@Stevie, I own a few KF850's and I have replaced some with Eminence, I can assure you that I would prefer to use the RCF drivers, however I decided to take a chance with the Eminence and they sound just about the same.
