Hi Antonio this is an old post but what an amazing ride, if your channel is still current what group set, gearing ratio were you using? I plan on doing it next year
Hi @gc641, It has been a while, but at the time I had a compact Chainring (50-34) and a 11-32 Cassette. The gradient is not that hard, what makes or breaks this ride is the fuel planning , water especially. It is a hell of a bucket list ride, you will enjoy it.
Hi did you by chance go through Cervantes road?? I used to live there. And that is where my mom went swimming…. I think it was named Alpine Oaks resort and community center near alpine road.
Nice video! I climbed Haleakala 3 1/2 times. It is a beast! I remember being freezing cold at the top wearing sweat soaked bike clothing. AND shivering for about 10 minutes in the descent. After the shivers went away, it was cool going down so fast! Nice job!
Congratulations and thanks for the inspiration.Good video. The Garmin figures gave me a very good idea of what I will be facing. My bucket list also. Thanks again.
Thanks. That is about how long I think it will take me. I am 65 years old but live in Colorado at 5,100 feet (1,600 m) and ride in the high country a lot in spring, summer and fall. The problem is it winter time here and my training is limited to ZWIFT right now. Wish me luck.
Next time please mount the camera somewhere else other than the handlebars, 5 seconds of watching this and my eyes hurt. A nice trick is to include a portion of the bike in the shot and it gives the video a sense of stabilization. Nice ride though.
did you go all the way up? i think i came down the same road today but i thought it was much steeper while i was riding down. it was a very scary descent. I am new to cycling and even had to step off my bike at a couple of points because my hands were cramping from slamming on the brakes. nice ride.
Thanks for the information. Agreed suffering is part of the best rides :D. I think I have to do it. If I don't then I will feel I missed a good challenge ride. On Maui for holidays in a couple of years so lots of time to prepare.
For me it was the hardest most rewarding ride I've ever done. I also had a great weather day.. and being able to see what you're accomplishing and/or done, and the reward of the ride back down is awesome! In my case, went back down through the clouds.. still kinda boggles my mind :) Nice video with all the metrics!!
