Next time you habe this kind of runs to remove or basically any just just use revers electrolysis it will not remove and metal or leave any scratches and is cheap and easy all you realy need is an old cellphone charger and a container it will fit in to fill with fluid👍
I've tried to not get bitten by these bikes, but now have, as I wade through used parts from about the country. I was glad that I'm not the only person who found redemptive healing hiding beneath this machines obscure design philosophy, all from the ground up. Just as you have done with this Midnight Special.
Yamaha R5 350, DS7 250, RD 250 ,RD 350, RD 350 LC all pretty much the same crankcases the Yamaha Banshee was a quad based on the RD 350 LC engine standard with Electronic Ignition in production until at least 2014 and readily available as well as aftermarket systems including fully mappable systems from Eastern Europe two systems both very good have used both and dyno mapped banshees with them. Banshees with stroker crank and big bore cylinders with Keihin PWK 35MM carbs and pipes plus port work arouns 96 HP at wheels as a 421 Much more if bigger such as 535, 610 etc so plenty of options available. wrong puller to remove rotor will damage it not good
Guess I'm pretty late to the party. But your vid just showed up in my feed. Can't quite determine from your channel, but do hope you haven't called it quits. From one fledgling motorcycling documentarian RU-vidr to another, can easily appreciate the time and effort it would have taken to produce such a good watch. Cheers dude.
you didn't lap the taper when installing the new rotor/flywheel. big no-no as they are custom locked together . good chance of it slipping and snapping the key now.
Appreciate all your attention to detail on this Classic Virago. I know many never see the value or enjoy just how amazing these bikes are, seeing just the bad press, but every maker, including the most revered; the likes of BMW, Ducati, and even the Entirely-Sainted Harley Davidson have all had their moments of doubt and pain with some models. Have a great day all who ride the disfigured or unloved two-wheeler that captures a spirit few cagers ever guess.
i cannot get the timing on the rear cylinder of my 82 Yamaha virago 750 correct. the hole on the flywheel As well as the notch in the crankshaft is facing downwards but the piston is top dead center i get the hole in the flywheel to tds and the piston in at the bottom being 180 any clues on what i did wrong i completely rebuilt engine
Always good to see another one rescued. But note yours is not a Midnight Special...they had black motor, black exhaust etc etc & lots of gold trim eg the grab rail around the seat. I bought one new in 1983
Stator plate installed in wrong direction Pickup coil should be in between 5 to 6 O’clock position ur pickup coil is @ 11 O’ clock position pls contact cdi manufacturer and correct ur coil plate position as per magnet timing then match ur ignition timing as u require 1.8mm or 2.1mm BTDC
Very nice work on this restoration. I am building a cafe racer, so I am kind of restoring the bike as well. But after I restore it I will cut and shape it as I desire.
That's what I am doing, first restoring it to the original. if I want to convert it to bobber or cafe, I will think that later. It's also rainy season now the work is stall for a while. will continue in Oct Nov.
Hello, nice project! I have the same one that i had by my grandfather , do you know how works the setting of the suspension, on the "valve" where it's write "dumping".? Good work 🤜🏻
Turn the adjuster clock or anti clockwise to the chose setting you want, soft, medium and hard (the setting with the slot.) you also need to measure the air pressure in the shock. add air if the pressure is not up to 4.0 kg/cm (57psi). Since this rear shock absorber is old school tech and finding it damaged or air hose oil leaks replace the entire shock. (DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE SHOCK ABSORBER IT CONTAINS NITROGEN) new after market shock absorbers are available if you need to replace it,
I do believe a midnight special had a blacked out engine with polished fins and covers chromed in gold. What is in the video is just a special. Good luck with the build. they are nice bikes. I have had three, last one I still have is a 97 1100. Love it!
You're right. During 81--83 Yamaha had different variants for different markets, the only difference was color and safety features. But it's was the same bike. I had bought this used XV750 in 1992. I wanted to paint it that way (Midnight Special) But the Gold color is way too gody for me.
@@cyclonefish1463 I saw the part 2 video. Do you have one after completing the installation? What's your verdict? I'm looking to get the kit too, how is the high rpm performance?
Shifter I bought from a dealer in Bombay centrals bike market , before I order online from safexbikes.com was a total crap. Made from RX shifter... I don't think that shifter is same size.
Good, your project is very good. Could you help me with a question I have about the fuel used in this type of Yamaha motorcycle and if you have to mix gasoline with oil?
Do not mix oil. Not with four stroke engine. Oil mix is done only on two stroke engine bikes for example RD350 and other two strokes of other brands beside Yamaha.
Hello There , How is part 5 coming along ? It’s been 5 months since part 4, did you run into major problems with something or the starter ? 5-29-22 Update edit, I lost interest in your videos because you take too long to answer my comment and too long to post a new video on your Yamaha Virago project ! So I Unsubscribed , Bye.
Sorry Garys, Electrical wiring (from the scratch) was a big challenge, I had to redo it, on second attempt it worked out well. Part 5 is already published.
I didn't watch the whole video because it was painful, but the best way to do it is remove as much of the harness intact as possible. All of it and lay it out and then as you know You can't wire from scratch you can however start a fire. Electrical is best performed by spending $150 on a used car harness copper factory ford Chevy etc..... this way you know Its solid grade, even new and the abundance or variety and lengths means you can draw out and plan every wire then install it on the bike 😊. Looks like you already had everything stripped down. I've built a lot of car resto mods and rebuilt entire engine wiring harnesses. As I say, just remove the old one as much as possible intact as in one section or however they did it from the factory, lay it on the ground and by the automotive harness and piece it together and tape it where they tape it and bind it where they bind it. Man I hate to see you have to go in there again. You're going to have issues with that aluminum looking wire that stuff just does not last, especially on a motorcycle
