From what I can tell. To remove the cover you need to undo the center clamps fold it up and your done? How heavy is it with all three panels together for removal?
@JPTrek
@JPTrek 5 месяцев назад
You need to open it up all the way then remove the struts then you can unhinge the panels. The center clamps are the last to come off. We have not taken it off all together but the front and rear panels are around 50 lbs each. Their site says 125 lbs total.

Besides the awesome looks, this is not practical for everyday purpose specially if you want to utilize the entire space of the trunk. Imagine having to loosen the bolts and taking the panels apart every time you have to haul something taller and larger in your truck. Gets old real fast

This is a really good point. When we get 6+ feet of wood from home depot or something longer we just have the rear cover open. Not going on the highway or anything, just city roads less than 50mph. Can't see anything from the rear mirror at that point though...

bump- I'd like to know this as well. Also, does the weather strip on bottom come with or did you do that separate? I see a seal that you can buy but looks like it's just extra and not the whole way around.
@JPTrek
@JPTrek 9 месяцев назад
You have to play with how much you tighten it down in order to allow the tailgate to still fall automatically. It can definitely be too tight so the tailgate just stays up, but we haven’t seen any issues in terms of seal with it only tight enough to allow it to still drop automatically. The weather stripping came with the kit. There’s an additional weather stripping piece that also came with but we weren’t exactly sure where that was supposed to go or if it was extra

I'd LOVE one of these--- but don't know if my body could take the jostling around- and I'm not sure of being able to change tire on trail- etc.. (got mashed between two trucks in 99),, and I'm also not sure of the 8=10 MPG... !!! what mileage do you average on that vehicle??? I'd love one-- for the winters here up in the hills of Southwest VIRGINIA-- we get wet icy snows...not the powdery kind.. and I just like them-- but I'm thinking a mazda CX-50 AWD would be more practical for me--

There are as many types of mud as there are different kinds of snow. It ranges from just watery sand and dirt, to wet, sloppy dirt and clay, to wet clay, aka gumbo mud or slick clay. Clay just binds to the tires and acts as a lubricant. As good as the Wildpeaks are in snow, rain, and light mud, it can't handle the slick, gooey clay mud here. Just turns the tires into glazed donuts. Probably needed mud terrains by this point, or aggressive hybrids atnthe very least.

I have mine coming in next week along with some Yakima rails. A little nervous about drilling into the cover, but Yakima said that there's markers underneath the cover that will guide in drilling, but nothing is mentioned on Diamondbacks website. Can you take a look underneath and let me know? It should be dots with a "Y" near them.

Man I am jealous. My 2023 Tundra Crewmax Limited "L" 4x4 does not arrive until the end of this month, in Canada. Great video on the install. I was going to get a cap but am leaning towards the tonneau cover. "So many options." Just the one big question: how easy is it to get the doggy nose prints off of the inside of the windows??? Nice job. So your cover didn't come with bed rail cap shims? I have mine on my 2018, which I bought used and now I'm seeing you should install shims before installing the cover.
@JPTrek
@JPTrek Год назад
No they did not. The instructions didn’t mention anything about it, but we will definitely look into it now. We recently took the DB off so will see. What do the shims do? We adjusted the rods several times (just omitted from the video lol) for the right fit. Do you need to retighten yours from time to time? Or do the shims save you from doing that? Thanks in advance
@2805Heath
@2805Heath Год назад
@@JPTrek Gotcha, I just got mine like a week or two ago. I bought a used diamondback in really good shape. So the bed rail cap shims might not be required I believe if they didn’t come with it. Pretty sure it just raises the bed rail cap a little, so when you tighten the clamps down it doesn’t crush your bed rail cap or damage it. And yes I did have to retighten mine once so far. Hasn’t come lose yet lol

New tundra owner here. Loving the look of the Diamondback cover. Off-topic, how do your dogs do stomping around on your back seats. Any long-term worry they’ll trash the back of your new truck? I want this Diamondback but still considering a bed cap so dogs can hang out in the back. A lot of pros and cons to both so I’m confused as hell.
@JPTrek
@JPTrek Год назад
We always plan to have that dog seat cover in the back whenever we are bringing the dogs. For the most part, they usually take a nap on the road and we have their space cushioned with a dog bed and a couple blankets. Spent about $60 on the dog cover and best investment with the dogs in the new Tundra so far (oh we've had some incidents!). Diamondback has been great so far and can always put stuff on top of it (although that limits the accessibility).
@gregorycampbell6071

@@JPTrek Appreciate the response! It'll be the 1st time I've had a truck and trying to make it all work with family/dog/gear. Just can't decide between a Smartcap and the Diamondback. I'd prefer the Diamondback but don't want to make an expensive mistake for what we do.
