Esta versão estendida, além de inspirada, serve para consagrar Matchbox, canção que faz cem anos, pinçada habilmente por Perkins do acervo de Robert Johnson e transformada em bonito Rock 'n Roll.
I had several albums by him, and most of my friends had never heard of him. As a drummer Sandy was one of my go to sources for hearing popular songs without the distraction of vocals. RIP Sandy, and thanks for the awesome drumming.
MY Favorite song by him, was "Let There be Drums !" Sandy could swing a Mean Pair, of Sticks ! Another favorite, was: "Birth of the Beat"! He even had an African Lion's Roar, at the start of the song !
Heavily over-produced, drums are mixed way too loud. I love Amos Garrett's playing but this version is not the best. His guitar always sounds great, but not when the drums are pounding like heavy metal over top of his playing.
Also worth hearing John Jenning's live version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6ZNmCxwHUmU.html . Just guitar & mando. He tells the story of how he came to write it. (Audio is soft. You have to crank it up.)
Very ironically on May 27, 1978, this ode by Merle Haggard to "losing" became The Number Two Song for the Week on The Billboard "American Country Countdown" Chart. This Classic was one of many Number Ones for Merle and was outpaced only by "Do You Know 'You Are My Sunshine'?" which at the time was the only Number One by The Statler Brothers.🤔😉🎤🎼🎵🎶🎸🎹🎻🥁☀️⛰B.W.
